Presentation: It was poured from a 24oz can into a big mug. The label on the can lists the abv at 10%

Appearance: Dog Bite High Gravity Lager has a bright golden body with very good clarity and lots of visible carbonation. From the long pour I got a tall fluffy head that hung on longer than expected.

Smell: In the nose this one is big on corn cereal, raw grain and sweet syrupy corn.

Taste/Palate: The flavor matches its aroma plus it adds a slight over cooked vegetable undertone before finishing with some light earthy dry and bland hops.

Notes: Overall I am not a fan.

Huge thanks to bman1113vr for sharing this gem. Comes in a large, bright orange can.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. So far so good. Then as soon as you smell the beer you realize things are taking a turn for the worse. I get a lot of grain and grass notes with a little bit of orange mixed in. The flavor is more of the same with some grain and orange. Actually not bad for a malt liquor, but certainly not a good beer. The alcohol is very well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Can (2013)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, StarRaptor!

A hugely carbonated, light golden-colored high-gravity lager. This can presents everything you hoped and feared it would be. Corn, miscellaneous grain, alcohol presence, and some aluminum combine to make...something hardly drinkable. A tick is a tick, but this won't be seeing my lips again.

Really weak yellow color, good 1" head that quickly vanishes leaving no lace. Aroma was of aluminum and alcohol. Do they even line these cans? Tastes au natural, this is the can to drink if you're one of those BPA causeheads! Further searching yields a sweet creamed corn malt base underneath the aluminum and alcohol aroma.

Taste, eeegad, I'm glad I was able to pawn most of this off on others. Alcohol, thin body, corn, corn syrup and metal. Pretty gross, tastes just like the label looks (terrible). I think as you drink more of it, you become a little accustomed to its shittiness, and you start to hallucinate and think you can taste green apple, that the fusel alcohol like flavors burning your ear, nose and throat pavillion aren't really as harsh as they were at first. Desensitizing I guess, which oddly, is a good thing when the beer starts out this bad.

Even judging to style, this is on the low end of things. If you really want to punish your taste buds, let it warm up on a sunny day. Starts to drink like its 80 proof stuff.

24oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on Aug 26th 2013.

A: Pours a clear pale golden yellow with a dense white head. Not much visible carbonation. Leaves some decent lacing behind as the head slowly fades over the course of a minute or two.

S: Not a very pleasant aroma, corn dominates the aroma giving a heavy macro lager feel. Can catch a whiff of that higher ABV.

T: Malts add some breadiness and a fair amount of sweetness. Alcohol remains well hidden only giving you a bit of a cringe after swallowing. Best drink this one cold before the malts show their true colors.

M: Light to medium body with slightly low carbonation. Alcohol is a bit sharp. Finish lingers a bit with a stickiness from the malts.

Overall its a good value if you're looking to get drunk and willing to sacrifice some flavor. Don't think I'll be going back for another round though.

Found this while checking out a bev place I should go to more often..but that's another story.

A slightly reserved pour still kicks up a healthy head of white soapy bubbles..They didn't hang for long. The thin remaining cover did deposit some splotchy lace though.

Smells a bit sweet, a little solvent like with a touch of yeastiness..interesting.

Dare I sip a malt liquor? Nah, I think a manly mouthful is called for here..It brings initial sweetness along with a fairly biting carbonation and a definite alcoholic finish. Mouthfeel is on the thick and slick side..seems to be the norm with these HG malt liquors.

This is one of the better of this genre based on it's drink-ability and, at a buck fifty for a 24oz can, even if it sucked it wouldn't hurt my conscience too much.

Poured from a 24 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some hints of corn. Taste is not very good, alcohol, plastic, a bit sweet, in a word, yuck. Feels light in the mouth with a slight alcohol burn and is not very drinkable. Overall this is a beer to be avoided.

A: Pale lemon pour with a easy clarity revealing a heavy rapid effervesce of medium-dense macro-bubbles. A weakly holding bubbly, foamy head does little to impress and hold, leaving little in the way of window dressing (lace).

S: Fairly true to style, nose holds a light mixture of dried orange aroma and pale grains. Would of liked a bit more grainy flavor, yet was fairly clean with no off aromas, but still comes off average per style.

T: For flavor there was some graininess, a bit surprised with a touch of sweet cara-pils, orange honey and even a little bit of hops show up of herbal mentions. There is some alcohol but is well maintained for its 10%abv providing a gentle complimentary warming, Sweet gain base, some light corn-syrup, and a bit of herbal hops gives this something to think about.

M: High level of carbonation and bubbly activity. Fairly crisp with a medium resistance on the tongue. A bit maltier then your typical per style.

D: Served from a 24oz tall boy can. Amazing this is fairly easy to handle for a 10%abv drink, little if any heat, only a gentle warming in passing makes it feel several points lower.

Endnote: this is a American malt liquor and I judged it as so per style. Considering the competition and others per style this was fair to manage and not as bad as its overall rating may make it appear. Overall I feel this is worthy by style.

Puured a bit of the can into a mug, fast moving carbonation perpetually rising. Bright gold, utterly clear though on closer inspection there's tiny bits of suspended sediment, like when dust hits a sunbeam. White sudsy head, lasting retention and even some drippy lacing around the edges. Looks like your average industrial lager.

Smells very sweet like apple juice, slightly floral, with some light artificial plastic phenols behind it. Ham-fisted fusel alcohol, reeks of sweet cloying fumes.

Taste is also very sweet, some apple and pear notes, envelope glue, isopropryl sharpness. Messy and slick on the tongue. Astringency in this beer is awful. Gag inducing and foul, can't help but pull a face when drinking it. Trying to drink more that a third of the can is proving to be a real chore. A novelty beer for the can, the beer inside is cheap swill (not that it's advertised as anything but). $1.09 can.

Clear gold with a big white head. Lasts quite a while. Good amount of lacings.
Smell not much smell good or bad.
Taste is like regular Genny with a bit more body and sweetness. Hard to tell this is 8% abv.
Mouthfeel is average and carbonation is alright.
Overall if you like Genny lager you should give this a try. If only for a rating.

I'm no stranger to the cheap brews. I get them frequently. And believe it or not, even as a high end craft brew drinker, I do enjoy some like Colt 45 (for what it is).

But this...It just sucks. It's got a rather bad taste to it, almost similar to Icehouse. It's 8%, and cheap, and has a cool can. That's about as much good as I can say of it. For a few cents more, get yourself something like a Hurricane or Four Loko. The flavor is just bad, no matter how you look at it. It smells like any other cheap High Grav, and possibly a bit worse. It looks just like you'd expect.

Unless you cannot find any other cheap 8% brews around, get something else. If it was still 10% like it used to be, there would at least be that as reason to get it. But with other 8%+ options, all for a few cents more (Or even less), there's really no reason to buy this. I got it on a whim, because I collect cans+bottles, and didn't have this one yet.

Your best bet with this is just to shotgun it, or have it after you've had a few. The flavor is bad.

The body is thicker and not as light as I expected. Could be due to the high abv but it certainly isn't as light as most macros. Actually got a really nice head to boot. Still your expected light watery yellow. Smell is extremely sweet. I actually kind of like it. Very sweet candied pineapple. Think DIPA that has lost it's hops. Eh. A bit too sweet for my tastes. A tad cloying. Reminds me a bit of Fruity Pebbles. Seems the best description. But hey at least it has flavor. Can't say the same for the aftertaste. It fades fast as hell. Mouthfeel is pretty week. Some hard carbonation up front then turns to water. Also it is hot as hell. For what it is it isn't terrible. Just a good cheap drunk. And it will surely do it more than any of malt liquor.

24 oz. can
Served in a Firestone Walker pils glass

A - It pours a crisp golden color that is devoid of any floating imperfections. The effervescent body continuously feeds a brilliant white cloud of foam that leaves traces of its presence down the side of the glass.

S - It has an initial sweet candy aroma. Upon further investigation I discover the scent of candied apple and some floral notes.

T - The taste begins sweet with some grain flavors. Then a floral taste crosses my palate. Then I get smacked with the alcohol. Then, as quickly as it came, the alcohol taste subsides leaving a clean, crisp finish.

M - Thin with biting carbonation.

O - This beer starts out a little harsh. Once the 8% numbs my tongue it becomes rather easy to drink. It is an exemplary example of an underappreciated style.

Dog Bite has a very thick, white head and a clear, golden appearance, with some bubbles streaming up and a surprisingly good amount of ragged lacing. The aroma is of dense corn husks and maybe other grains. Taste is a mixture of corn, corn husks, malted barley, and even a touch of hops. Sweetness and alcohol are strongly present across the sip. Dog Bite has a medium mouthfeel, and it finishes shockingly crisp and refreshing, but not clean, however. While I do not really like this barley-wine type beer, I thought it was sort of good and tasty, not awful and disgusting as I expected. However, it did go straight to my head and my 15-minute nap on the couch turned into an hour and a half knock out. I awoke feeling disoriented, somewhat queasy, and off kilter. Overall, this should be approached with trepidation. I think it does have some redeeming qualities, but I can’t, in good consciousness, recommend this.

"This has been sitting in my fridge for weeks. I have some time to kill today, so why not get it over with?"

+1 to this. And it is gotten over with quick. Nice yellow color, nice white head that leaves nice lacing down the sides of my nice glass. This is where the nice ends. Smells like an adjunct lager, tastes like an adjunct lager mixed with grain alcohol and sterno. Overly boozy and sweet. I drank more of the Jeremiah Weed Tea than I could of this three headed bitch. I spent more time reviewing it than drinking it. Good bye cruel world...

24 oz orange can with a three-headed black dog silhouette...packaging is just screaming with class. $1.19 at some shithole gas station in Livingston, TX. Pours a clear, dark yellow color with a small cap of white head.

Nose is green apple, nail polish remover and alcohol. Not even some grainy malt or corn can rise above the various unpleasantries in the nose here. Ugh.

I am a believer in the mantra 'You have to experience the bad to appreciate the good'. This is a perfect example of it...stale grains soaked in watered down vodka with a few sour apple Jolly Ranchers thrown in for good measure. The taste is actually not quite as bad as the nose, which is horrendous, but half this 2x4 will probably go down the drain anyway. The alcohol is too big for its britches and the apple and acetone notes are very distracting. I will admit that it is decently drinkable for a 10% malt liquor...there are worse variants out there. Id still much prefer a 40 of OE to this, if I was fiendin for some malt licka.
