Part of the Summer Brews pack from Cost Plus World Market.

Pours a murky light yellow with a 1 inch white head that fades to a thin cap. Foamy rings of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat and some floral notes. Taste is of wheat, grains, and a very slight floral/citrus taste on the finish. There is a slightly fruity aftertaste with this one. This beer has a higher level of carbonation with a crisp and clean mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good wheat beer from Dundee with a refreshing quality to it. A good choice for the Summer Brews box.

This one poured out as a lightly hazy golden color with a fluffy white head on top. The smell of the beer is sweet and grainy. Not much of a lemony aroma or anything like that. The taste of the beer is decent, not something I love but it's not too bad. The mouthfeel is light and moderately refreshing. Overall this beer is drinkable but not too flavorful.

Into a tapered weizen-shaped mug this beer pours a hazy yellow orange. Soapy head on top, three fingers of foam that slide down to a quarter inch with soap suds lacing inside the glass. The foam has a pitted surface and matte sheen on top. With the yeast poured, it becomes slightly hazed and pastel hued.

Mellow wheaty aroma, light perfumy florals. As it warms up there's a hint of lemon, apple, and biscuit notes. Pleasant if not a little nondescript.

Lemony taste, some grainy wheat in the aftertaste. Crisp apple and biscuit again. Feels a little astringent with club soda carbonation. Overall it's pretty quenching on a hot day, and the fairly low abv lends itself to sessioning.

Thanks for the beer Andrew!

A - Poured out a hazy pale gold color with a small, white, bubbly head of foam. It left little to no lacing.

S - It smelled of lemon and wheat. A touch of spice.

T - It tasted of cracked wheat, lemon and some spices.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a solid wheat beer. Nothing to fabulous, but drinkable and light.

a very very very light beer, super easy drinking. pours hazy and incredibly pale yellow in color, a nice two inches of thick white head stays on top. the nose is a little lemony, a little yeasty, but in generall pretty bland. this keg may have been sitting awhile, but the nose is very muted on this beer. the flavor is muted too, but from what i can gather everything is in pretty good balance. a delicate wheat malt profile gives way gently to a mellow lemon peel essence, which isnt acidic or tart at all, just refreshing. slight pepper in the yeast, but again, very subtle. feel is just too light by any standards, even for my mom, but its smooth and creamy in a way most light beers are not, and the carbonation is very refreshing. in the right summer context this could be a winner, for now its just too light even for a self proclaimed summer wheat beer. nothing offensive about it through, and the price was right at just a few bucks per pint.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Turbid yellow, chucks of yeast, decent foaming

SMELL: Stale lemon, chalky yeast, bready, slightly nutty

TASTE: Crisp, smooth, moderate body, wheat twang, bready, very yeasty, odd lemon, herbal, faint esters, finished semi-dry

Tastes a little wild other than the fact the yeast character is pretty neutral, over pitched? A plain American Wheat Ale gone astray.

Slightly cloudy wheat beer ready for the summer in late fall...this beer appears a hazy golden with a bright white foamy head. Forms fine even spceckled lacing down the sides of my glass. Aroma has a sharp fruity/citrus nose with pale malts and wheat tones going on. A bit earthy and floral with hops and summer beer tones going on...flavor has a citrus wheath beer qulaity very refreshing beer half citrus hafl creamy wheat malt flavor. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied ale with a sturdy carbonation that goes down smooth and drinks pretty well with this type of beer.

First had: can from Pinocchio's beer garden, Media, PA

Poured into a nondescript pint glass, a clear golden straw-yellow color, aggressively poured for about 2 fingers of head that receded pretty quickly, but surprisingly left some nice lacing. Not a whole lot going on in the aroma, but still nice and crisp, citrus zest, and a slightly funky undertone. Wheat and light grains in the taste, lemon and a bit of peach, and not harsh or dry at all. Light mouthfeel, and very easily drinkable. Went good with dinner on the back porch in late June.

A slow late-spring afternoon has me furthering The CANQuest (TM) with a series of light, summery beers. I am glad to be back on the CAN trail after an extended hiatus.

From the CAN: "Dundee Summer Wheat Beer Back in 1487, a summer beer, also known as 'Hefeweizen,' would run you two pfennigs. (Pfennigs were kinda like quarters in Bavaria.) That was twice the price of winter beers. Why? Well, summer, or "wheat" beers were so popular, Duke Albrecht had to double the price so bakers would have enough wheat for baking. (Fear not, we have no such plans.) Ours is aromatic with hints of floral and citrus from the special hops we use. Hey, we love muffins as much as the net guy, but the bakers [CAN] get their own wheat."; "Limited Release"; "Crisp and Cloudy".

More agitation prior to the Crack & Glug as I am still unsure of the style. It evidenced a slight haze, but I do not think that it it is either a Hefe or a Wit. The Glug netted me just better than a finger of rocky, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was a very hazy, but not quite cloudy, golden-yellow. Nose was grassy, bready and orangish, an interesting combination. Mouthfeel was medium with a light grainy flavor on the tongue, definitely a wheat beer. It was mild in its taste, which is what I do not like about this style. They always seem to lack any Ooomph and this was no exception. Finish was semi-dry, certainly refreshing and appropriate for a hot day, but just not my bag.

12 oz twist-top bottle poured into a weizen glass.
0811 on the neck, "Limited Release", no info.

A - Poured with the swirled-in-bottle sediment, the beer is a cloudy golden straw color that's topped by a fluffy white head. Good retention but no lace left behind.

S - A hint of skunkiness underlines the pale malt and wheat aroma. Average potency but refreshing-smelling regardless.

T - Soft, tasty wheat with grainy pale malt and very lightly hopped citrus, hint of spice finish.

M - Smooth, soft, and medium-light-bodied, the crisp, refreshing finish is certainly welcome on this hot morning.

O - While the nose is pretty lacking, the taste makes up for it. A nice, easy-drinking summer brew with good wheat and citrus notes throughout.

Cool another can review!

A - Pours a cloudy yellow hue with a half inch of head that turns to a light ring. Slight lacing.

S - Smells mostly of light yeasts and a bit of wheat.

T - Kind of weak really I get the wheat taste for sure but the hop profile and yeast is very thin. In fact without any orange, banana, or spicy clove the Hefeweizen beer is really just average BMC.

M - Best part of this beer. Very light and smooth.

Overall not something I would seek out again but I could see the market for this. Low ABV, light to no flavors, and very drinkable. Keystone anyone?

A perfect beer to drink on the first day of summer! It pours a somewhat hazy solar yellow with a fairly thick, if not persistent, white head. Wheaty, yeasty aroma has a bit of a lemony undertone. Flavor is wheaty and yeasty with just a hint of lemon, not strong but still refreshing - perfect after a HOT day. Texture is fairly smooth with a subtle tingle. This is more of a party beer, or a beer to sip whilst taking in a baseball game, than one for sipping by itself - but it's still a decent summer beer.

This beer is very clouded, as per the style, and a pale golden color. The white head is small, but the foam has some staying power and never fades. Some pretty good lacing is left.
The nose offers wheat, yeast , some grass and lemon with more sour/bitter citrus akin to orange rind (zest).
This beer claims to be a hefeweizen, makes me long for a hefeweizen, then leaves me disappointed that it's not what it claims to be. The issue here is that it's not a good hefeweizen, but it's not a bad APWA; I don't mean there's a superiority of style, but the adherence to it. That said, the taste is on par with the nose. What, grass, yeast and lemon are big with a good pale malts backing and maybe a touch of herbal and citrus hops, and the lemon really takes center stage pretty much off the bat. Unfortunately, this also makes it a little sour as it goes, as if there's just to much tartness that isn't countered, and no soft hefeweizen sweetness to complement. The finish rounds out with a lightly sour, "wheaty" flavor.
This is a light-bodied beer and certainly crisp, but to a fault; there's a little too much crispness and it's very sharp and biting. In fact, it practically stings. It's "appropriate to style" gone overboard. It needs to be softened up a bit.
This might be an okay APWA, but there are much better examples of that style and certainly of hefeweizens.

Pours a dense, cloudy golden-yellow, with a decent head of white bubbles. Lace is spotty.

Nose says lemon-citrus and wheat. Not bad.

Taste is mild and light, with a malty sweetness (but not too much). I get a substantial citrus-lemon character. Hops are definitely subdued. Taste is also a wee flat and lacking in complexity, but this remains a decent beer to chill to in Summer. Certainly leagues better than a major corporate lager.
