Had 12 horse today for the first time in many years. It was more of a full flavor then i had remembered. Kind of carmel in color and better tasting then many cheap beers and at 8.99 for a case in bottles i thought it was a great value. At 5.1 percent stronger then most cheap beers. it didnt leave a bad after taste at all and have to say the 3 i had this afternoon i really enjoyed. seemed to have quite a bit of carbonation and a fruit type smell.

Presentation: 12 oz brown twist with no freshness date to be found.

Appearance: Vivid and clear light golden hue donning a thin wispy tiny bubbled white lace.

Smell: Vague and ghost like fruitiness, perhaps from the mild esters in the nose. Both hops and malt are evident in the aroma.

Taste: Light bodied, crisp mouth feel and a pronounced carbonation. With in the crispness comes a tingling hop bitterness and alcohol bite mix. Ghost like lemon flavour hits as well as fermented grain. A balanced twang from the hops leaves ample bitterness for the thinnish malt palate, white cracker like maltiness seems to be the sole malt flavour in this brew. On the dry side with a clean finish.

Notes: A no frills American light ale, easy drinking and non-offensive … a no brainer of a beer, a beer to drink and not have to think about what you are drinking.

got my first taste of this with the holiday pack. it had 4 each of Beer, Cream Ale and 12 horse.

poured a nice light gold. about half inch of head that settles a bit. good steady carbonation and light lace down the glass. smells fine but seems light in smell. taste is good. you can catch the hops and it is balanced. this is a rather good refreshing beer that when purchased in the bottle would be one of my favorite everyday beers. all three listed above are very good daily brews.

suckem up and movem out.

A clear yellow light amber color with a big white head that quickly shrinks to a dusting and modest lacing. The nose gets cereal grain alcohol with an accent on corn. The flavor is much the same with a lager-esque wheat and earthy yeast, some caramel sweetness in a medium-light bodied ale that goes down pretty easily with easy but refreshing carbonation. Not bad.

A: A a pale golden beer with a creamy, off white head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

S: A little bit of an earthy hops aroma with a slight citrusy ester that seems to come from the yeast. There is a moderate malt sweetness

T: A malty softness and a light a earthy hops flavor and medium-light hops bitterness. There is a light bit if ale yeast character but not much. The balance is even and the finish is polity abrupt.

M: A Creamy, medium-lighted beer with a medium level of carbonation.

O: An easy to drink blonde style that is moderately malty beer with a good creaminess. If you buddy only drinks lawn more lagers and needs a gateway ale this isn't a bad choice as it's sort of a lightly flavored ale.

Stubbie bottle from the Heritage Collection.

A: Pours a dark golden color with a decent head that fades to bits of lacing.

S: Aroma of malt sweetness bit of citrus and grain.

T: Taste is a bit tart with a mild malt sweetness. this continues to a mild bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Light body, crisp and quite smooth.

O: Easy drinker. Not bad for what it is.

Purchased from Wegmans on Taft Road in Liverpool NY. Honestly not a bad beer for the price. I notice that it is very carbonated which is not a bad thing for the beer. Has mostly a sweet bready taste. It is not to heavy so you can drink a few without getting overwhelmed. I will purchase this in the future it is very cheap an brewed in my home state.

This is part of the Genesee Heritage Pack. 12 Horse brought back after a couple years of retirement.

A - Pours nice straw gold with 2 fingers of creamy head.

S - Aromas of crisp lightly kilned malt and light fruits, like apples or yellow plums

T - Malty body with noble hop crispness. Very pleasant

M - Love the creamy head on this and the vigorous carbonation

O - So glad they brought this back. I grew up with this beer, well, all of the beers in the Heritage pack. Since moving to Ohio, I don't get much Genesee and this makes me want to get it more often.

Part of the Heritage twelve pack. I drank a lot of Genny back in college but I never heard of this one until tonight. A little darker in color than I expected, and almosr no head at all. Nose is lemon and a touch of honey but nothing to write home about.

Nice hop profile from the outset. Not a ton of malt but the hops and touch of lemon zest provide enough character that this can be pretty distinctive. High carbonation creates a pretty tight mouthfeel but you get used to it pretty quick. The stiffness does constrict the flavor but overall I find this pretty drinkable. for what it is of course.

12oz stubby bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clear straw yellow with plenty of carbonation leading to a fizzy head. Retention is poor but leaves a thin cap on the beer.

Aromas of sweet corn and grain are present along with an apple juice smell.

The taste reveals a slight bready graininess along with the apple flavor. Very light bitterness along with a slight grassy hop flavor. A little tart on the finish.

Overall just an ok brew. I still prefer the original Genesee though.

Sampled on November 26, 2011. This is from the retro stubby bottle with the original 1970's label and twist off cap. I remember when it looked like that regularly. It pours golden yellow with a fizzy head. The aroma is lightly malted, bready, and vaguely hopped. The body is thin and carbonated. The taste is very typical for its style with grain, corn, some malts, and wisp of hops at the end.

Poured from a stubby "glass can" into a pint glass. Thanks go to victory4me for the bottle.

There really isn't anything notable about this beer on any level. The beer is a clean and crisp blonde amber in color, but there isn't really any head, even with a down-the middle pour. The aroma and flavor are both packed with lightly toasted grains, and a hint of grassy hop flavor. A touch of sweetness in the finish, too. Creamy and enjoyable feel. Overall, I am surprised by the hop presence...or ANY hop presence for that matter.

Purchased as part of the same Heritage Case that my Cream Ale review came from. Not to be redundant, but 8 Genny, 8 Cream Ale and 8 12 Horse all in stubby retro bottles for $8.99, Weber City Deli in Yorkshire if you're interested.

A-Decent, darkish yellow with little head

S-Macro Hops with a bit of lemon

T-Interesting, almost a summer (Kolsch maybe) like hint

M-Decent, nothing unpleasant on the back end

O-another decent Genny product

The beer pours a dark honey golden, nearing a hint of copper or orange. There is a quarter-inch head of white foam.

The aroma is grain, honey sweet, herbal/floral.

The taste is sweet grain and herbal. There is almost a hint of root beer. There is a pleasant aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is light, but noticeable carbonation, along with a smooth, creamy element.

This is a very interesting, pleasant, but not great in any way.

Thanks to tone77 for this beer.

Good appearance with a solid head and a light amber color. The aroma is nice with some sweet malt and (gasp) some hops! The flavor follow the aroma almost exactly, although the hops seem to be a little bit lost. Creamy, with a nice body. Not overly sweet. Somewhat more exciting than your standard American-style lager but not much more.

A - Poured a pale yellow with a one inch white head. The head was quite fleeting and quickly dispersed into a thin line on the glass. Very good carbonation level. I did notice some faint lacing.

S - Very "light" aroma for an ale with some hop note as well as some grain. Overall a very neutral smell.

T - Primarily taste is grain with a hint of hop bitterness. No sensation of alcohol. Flavor actually improved as beer warmed.

M - A rather "thin" mouth feel. A bit on the watery side.

O - Considering the price paid, this represents a fairly decent value.

Got this one if the mixed heritage collection 12 pack. 12oz stubby bottle into my Ithaca glass. It poured clear and golden in color wit ha thin white head barely covering the top of the beer.

The aroma shows a lot of pale, grainy malts to it. I get a little bit of a tart, crisp, fruitiness to it as well. It's pretty crisp and clean for the style and not bad overall.

The taste shows a little more of the crisp, slightly tart fruitiness to it. It gives it a little bit of an apple juice or crisp pear like flavor. Some sweeter, toasty malts come out as well.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being moderate. Overall it was a pretty easy drinking beer. It didn't have any real outstanding flavors, but it wasn't bad either. For the price it's pretty decent.
