A good light ale to drink ice cold. For my taste It becomes a tad too sweet when it warms. A little more hops might balance this brew out.

From a heritage variety pack. I finally located a 12 pack in a small Oregon town that shall remain nameless as I hope to buy a second 12 pack today on my way home from work.
Pours slightly richer gold than your average macro with a half inch of bright white head. Very good amount of lacing and a ring of head still intact at the bottom. Aroma is malty and bready. Taste is very nice malt profile with a minor amount of hops. Mouthfeel is fine for the style with plenty of carbonation. Nice rich and balanced flavor for a Blonde Ale with a light dry finish. This is one of the better Blondes I have had. Well done Genesee.

12oz stubby poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours a super fizzy clear light golden color with a 1 finger white head that is gone in seconds. A ridiculous amount of visible carbonation.

S: Can actually pull some hop notes from this brew. Fairly standard aroma like most generic beers.

T: Slightly sweet with a light hop backing. Better than most macrobrews out there.

M: Light on the tounge, good carbonation. A little sticky.

Overall one of the tastier ones from Genesee but I dont think that says too much. A good deal considering it was much less than the big boys.

12oz stubby bottle.

A- Pours a crystal clear yellow color with a thin white foam head that fades away quickly.

S- Some malt sweetness and toffee in the nose...not much else.

T- Light ripe fruits and loads of sweetness in the finish. Little to no hops present. I'm shocked to taste how sweet this is.

M- Light bodied with fizzy carbonation.

O- Clean and incredibly sweet. I guess it's not a bad brew but I probably won't pick it up again anytime soon.

Poured chilled in straight-edged glass.

A: clear, yellow; thin head evaporates quickly; carb beads cling to sides of glass
S: pale aroma of marshmallow and stalish yeast
T: mild, lackluster, but inoffensive beer; tonic-water effect, something like a slightly stale pilsner

Poured into rounded pint glass, color is gold with off white head that does not present much and dissipates, no lacing.

Smell neutral grains, crusty and some neutral hops - does not seem fresh.

Taste is pretty neutral, mild grain flavors, not much off flavor just not popping in freshness - hops are present for bitterness and maybe some grassy notes.

Mouthfeel is a bit crisp and over carbonated for me, but to style.

Overall, decent easy drinking brew from genesee - not the best in the barrel bottle variety pack.

There is nothing special about this beer as it was blase and lacks character. It had a medium sized white head that was smooth and creamy. It contained fine-small sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body was clear with carbonation observed and the hue was gold. The nose was malty and there was not much flavor with this beer. The mouthfeel was smooth, thin-watery texture and light bodied. There was a fair amount of lacing.

Poured from a stubby "glass can" into a pint glass. Thanks go to victory4me for the bottle.

There really isn't anything notable about this beer on any level. The beer is a clean and crisp blonde amber in color, but there isn't really any head, even with a down-the middle pour. The aroma and flavor are both packed with lightly toasted grains, and a hint of grassy hop flavor. A touch of sweetness in the finish, too. Creamy and enjoyable feel. Overall, I am surprised by the hop presence...or ANY hop presence for that matter.

Bought this as part of a 3 Genny beer sampler. I sure wish this one was sold alone as it was the best of the batch. Of course, regular Genny and Genny Cream are really "third choice" or "It's only 1.29 for a 40" beers. 12 Horse is the same way with a notch better in the spew department.

It's yellow, it's only slightly foamy, it's got small bubbles fitting this type of lawnmower beer and even from the bottle, this smelled like a can beer. I was hoping this was like Ballantine or Lord Chesterfields but it has none of the "slight hops" of either. It has the corn of Cream Ale as well as a alcohol burn and a peppery sensation. A slight licorice and a sweet remainder kicks as well.

Okay, in a race between all the Genny beers, Bock is best and this is second. Lets hope they brink back Genny Red, which was the best of them all.

got my first taste of this with the holiday pack. it had 4 each of Beer, Cream Ale and 12 horse.

poured a nice light gold. about half inch of head that settles a bit. good steady carbonation and light lace down the glass. smells fine but seems light in smell. taste is good. you can catch the hops and it is balanced. this is a rather good refreshing beer that when purchased in the bottle would be one of my favorite everyday beers. all three listed above are very good daily brews.

suckem up and movem out.

Glassware: Kisatsky Tavern pint... Occasion: Spring break Thursday... Appearance: thin, sallow golden body that bubbled and crackled as it poured; the head is thick, chunky white and promises lacing...Aroma: all malt and hay...Palate: light to medium-bodied, with late carbonation and smoothness to the tongue...Taste: as exxpected, a stepping stone between the 40-ounces we pounded in college and the more mainstream fair that is served at backyard barbeques...light enough to pair with probably anything as a washdown, but too late to influence the palate while eating... Overall: no hatred or disappointment here, just what the retro bottle promised--and the dude who told me at the beer store that he couldn't see why the new package wasn't selling nearly paid for the purchase itself--as another old-school German brewery (a la Yuengling and Lord Chesterfield) does a nearly hopless ale. Pleasing in its blank canvas...

A: A a pale golden beer with a creamy, off white head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

S: A little bit of an earthy hops aroma with a slight citrusy ester that seems to come from the yeast. There is a moderate malt sweetness

T: A malty softness and a light a earthy hops flavor and medium-light hops bitterness. There is a light bit if ale yeast character but not much. The balance is even and the finish is polity abrupt.

M: A Creamy, medium-lighted beer with a medium level of carbonation.

O: An easy to drink blonde style that is moderately malty beer with a good creaminess. If you buddy only drinks lawn more lagers and needs a gateway ale this isn't a bad choice as it's sort of a lightly flavored ale.

I love drinking these straight from the twist off cap from the short, stout bottle. Poured this one into a taster glass for review.

A: Pours very clear straw yellow with okay head that settles down to a thin lacing. Nice carbonation evident. I give the appearance a little extra strictly for the packaging.

S: Smells grainy with a sweet pilsner malt backbone. Not good as it warms. A fuzzy carpet-like smell seems to take note. Husky notes.

T: Not a lot going on here. Bland and husk-like malts. A tad sweet. No hops evident. This is a beer not meant to drink warm. Serve cold & drink straight out of the bottle.

M: Light to medium tasting. A tad sweeter than the bitterness. You can tell they added some hops but they give no noticeable aroma and/or taste. Hops must be used strictly for bitterness.

O: Average beer. For $10.99 per case, I'm not disappointed with the purchase. I was in the mood for some macro-like lager to watch during football season. This one is a solid beer by far above some of the other crap that's out in the market. This one is obviously not craft, but I dig nonetheless.

A-pours a clear golden color with a white head with better than expected retention
S-sweet malt
T-more sweet malt with a bit of creaminess to it, low hop bitterness
M-light bodied with high carbonation
O-I wouldnt say its the best representation of the style but its very drinkable and decent for the price. Admittedly I have a weakness for genny. If I'm going to drink cheap, it will be some form of genny

Poured from a 12oz "grenade bottle" from a 12 pack Heritage Pack into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

A: Crystal clear golden color. Semi-aggressive pour leads to a fizzy 1 finger head that disappears instantly. No lacing whatsoever. Thin ring around the outside of the glass. Lots of tiny bubbles rising from the center.

S: Nice sweet bready malt smell with a slight hop smell.

T: Sweet malt shines through here first followed by some faint citrus hoppy bitterness. Very nice flavor overall.

M: Light-medium body, plenty of carbonation but not overly so. Creamy lingering aftertaste coats the mouth making it easier to reach for the next sip.

O: A super-easy drinking beer with good flavor. Certainly not a bad beer, especially at $7.99 per 12-pack.

Bottle from the Genesee Heritage Pack. Poured into a Genesee Cream Ale pint glass...

Pours a nice deep golden with a 1/2 finger head that completely disappears after a second. Sweet malts, earthy tones, grassy, low profile hops. The taste is a sweet corn water with a hint of grassy hops, and a big grain finish. Light on the feel, crisp, easy to drink, very grainy. Overall the nostalgia is fun, but this beer is average at best. If your wallets low or if you just wanna have one for old times sake, go for it, it wont bite ya.

Bought as part of a 12 pack from Beers of the World on 8/2/13.

poured into a nonic, served at fridge temp.

appearance: rich gold, a thick souffle of white head. Nice lacing.

aroma: malt with barely a wisp of earthy hops

mouthfeel: full, well made.

taste: broad malt is followed by a slightly sweet and nutty taste. The sweetness is not a corn syrup sweetness but is more fruity. Just a touch of earthy English style hops kiss the aftertaste.

notes: ok, so this isn't going to pave any new ground but this is a super easy to drink and for the price is a nice little treat.

All the characteristics of an American adjunct with a bit of buttery fruitiness mixed in. Tastes almost as if a run of the mill English EPA and a cheap American Macro lager had a love child.
It's not undrinkable, but it's nothing I would ever seek out. Even among cheap beers there would be a half-dozen I would buy before this one.
Props to the local brewery for bringing it back, I'm just not a big fan.

This tastes more like a lager than an ale to me. A very clean, crisp, not particularly interesting tasting beer. The packaging leads me to believe that one of the big 3 is behind this brew, but I couldn't find any clues that this is the case. Very light aroma and flavor. Not an offensive brew, but rather boring.

Appearance: Clear, golden yellow with one finger of head that fades to a ring with a little chunky lacing.

Aroma: Sweet malt that is a little grassy and just a touch corny with some prickly, citrus-like hop aroma mixing in.

Taste: Pretty sweet up front, then a quick hit of some weak bitterness then it gets real metallic towards the end and into the finish.

The Rest: Sweet retro packaging with some fair at best brew inside.

A: pours a crystal clear gold into a new belgium globe with almost a finger of white head. Leaves a little lacing.

S: fruity and malty, lighter fruits, apricots, apples, peaches.

T: a lot more malt in the mouth than the nose. Sweet carmel and apples. Some light citrus notes, maybe lemony.

MF: fairly light body, great effervescence, refreshing and crisp.

O: not to bad, solid representation of style and a solid beer for its price. The nose let down with a weak malt profile.

Medim amber in color. Nice lace and head, though quickly dissappates. Smooth in flavor with slight sweet malt flavor. Rich hoppy aftertaste compliments and rounds out this brew. A good beginner macro ale. Better than most imposters out there.

Bottle poured into a sweet old school PBR mug that I found.

A: The appearance is a darker golden color than most of the mainstream macro beers you will find out there. The carbonation level seems ridiculously high and no lacing was left on the glass during the process of drinking, but the color is quite nice and unusual. Oh...and the head disappeared very fast.

S: The aroma is extremely sweet. It is grainy and husky and....sweet.

T: The flavor is like the nose...it is very sweet. There is just a touch of bitterness that rides the tail end of some grainy flavor and the candy like sweetness.

MF: Light with heavier carbonation as expected.

O: Well, this is a pretty average macro offering. I tend to approve of Genesee for the price, but at $18 a case I should have either bought something much more expensive and drank good beer or bought something cheaper and drank beer that is this beer's equivalent. I do like the short and stout "hand grenade" style bottles though.

The beer pours a dark honey golden, nearing a hint of copper or orange. There is a quarter-inch head of white foam.

The aroma is grain, honey sweet, herbal/floral.

The taste is sweet grain and herbal. There is almost a hint of root beer. There is a pleasant aftertaste.

The mouthfeel is light, but noticeable carbonation, along with a smooth, creamy element.

This is a very interesting, pleasant, but not great in any way.

Thanks to tone77 for this beer.

picked up the genny heritage case a while back thought i should at least give a proper review of my mothers old favorite . poured from the throwback stubby bottle into a beer mug.
after drinking this beer i can understand why at one time it was the staple beer at family functions in the late 70's / early 80s.
