Poured from a 12oz. can into a pint glass.

There's really not much I can say positive about this beer, so I'll skip reviewing all the individual aspects of this and just say how I really feel about it: this beer is nasty in every possible definition of the term. And I say that in a nice way, as that's the nicest possible way I can put it.

To put it bluntly: it looks, smells, and tastes like stale piss. You know what piss smells like if it's sat there for a few days? It smells like that, and tastes just like it smells. Drinkability? Zero. It tastes and smells like pungent, metallic, compost rot, akin to what you might expect from prison beer that was fermented from stale bread and old ketchup in an inmate's unflushed toilet. This is a horrible "beer" (if you can call it beer, i'd call it compost juice), the bottom of the bottom, I'd take Natural Ice or Steel Reserve 211 before this beer, that's how bad it is.

It will do things to your bowels that you've probably never experienced during your worst stomach flu or food poisoning experience. It might as well be marketed as a laxative. Instead of urinating frequently after drinking this, it'll squirt out the other end, if you don't vomit it out first, but it's definitely coming back out of one of the 2 holes on your body that beer isn't supposed to come out of.

I wouldn't touch this beer with a 10 foot pole if it was the last beer on earth. I don't even know how it even manages to sell. The epitome and very definition of the words "nasty" and "disgusting" could be summed up in two words: Genesee Beer.

If you want to experience some of the finer brews this brewery has to offer, go for Dundee. Dundee beers are actually pretty good, comparable to craft beers, especially surprising given that this is their flagship.

Wow I had this for the first time while in Western NY at my wifes hometown local bar,one of the worse beers I had had in some time.Poures a fizzy yellow color with almost no head, not much smell what there is is very unpleasant almost skunky.Taste is awful something sour hits ya right as it enters the mouth than fades to this watery fizzy tasting mass.Incredably bad will never even think about getting this again.

Genesee Beer 4.5% alcohol 12oz can. Looks like a nice macro can beer with red, gold and white notions.

A- Pours an nice and crisp crystal clear yellow haze of bubbley fluid that produces a frothy head that leaves a quarter inch lacing.

S- Cooked corn and grain with mild dextrin upfrond on the nose. Light skunky hops are noticablie.

T-M- Taste is harsh corn grain and massive amounts of dextrin malts. Sweet but a nice mix of adjunct flavor to meld the carbonation of a smooth mouthfeel and nice drinkablity.

D- I could drink the amount given to me.

This is our hometown yellow beer. Now that's something to say, as there aren't too many hometowns left that can make their own yellow beer.

There's no sugar coating it. At BeerAdvocate, you come looking for information and insight on something other that this type. However, don't hate on the Genny.

If your looking to get a lot of suds for the softball team when they come over to burn some dead animal products, this is the shite for you. Beats spending twice as much on Bud. Besides, High Falls has spent some $23 million or more on sophisticated process control equipment. So this is some of the best made yella stuff arond.

If you're going to buy yellow beer, buy something that's not going to go to keep Bud controlling everything.

Bright golden, thin white sticky lace. Aromas of light grain and veggie smells in the background. Light and even bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Malt flavours are weak. Hop flavour has a quick flash of lemon, then dies. After this all of the flavours hit adjunct city all the way to the finish which is pretty clean and boring.

A very bland beer. Not impressed at all.

I have had bad beers in my day but i had the misfortune of trying this. It was in my friends step-dads frige, i was so used to seeing budlight i noticed something different, he said his buddy brought it down from new york. eager to have a beer other than bud/zepherhills light, i asked if he would mind if i had one. to my misfortune he said sure, that it wasnt available here, only up north. seemed hermless enough, but the first taste was putred.Horrable disgusting taste, couldent even finish it. got half way and dumped it and went for the bud. if it's better than bud it's got to be bad. nearly imposable to drink.

Presentation: It was poured from a tall 24oz can into a tall mug.

Appearance: The body has a nice deep yellow to light golden color with great clarity. Up top a quickly fading bright white head settles down to just a thin ring of foam at the edge of the glass.

Smell: Not much to say here, just some light grassy and wet hay like hops with some corn flake like cereal notes.

Taste/Feel: On the palate it slides right down with an average easy drinking light feel. It has the classic American Adjunct Lager flavor, leaning more to the corn like cereal like sweetness. This quickly drys out in the finnish.

Notes: This is an average cheap blue collar/retro beer and one that I have had many of.

Presentation: 12oz can with a red, white, blue and black coloured label. No freshness date.

Appearance: Straw in colour with a thin spotted white lace, leaves thin uneven rings of head sporadically down the glass.

Smell: Thin but agreeable malt smell with a cooked corn nose. Light fragrant hop that could be hard to miss within the clean aroma.

Taste: Light bodied with a well structured and integrated smooth mouth feel and crisp carbonation. Grain and cooked corn on the tongue with a sharp carbonation and tingling hop bitterness that takes advantage of the lightness of the beer for a bit. All around clean palate from the lagering (cold conditioning) of this beer. On the dry side with a grainy and bitty flavour of both six row barley and corn stomping through the finish.

Notes: Beats Bud hands down IMO, comparable to other American lagers of the sort. Sadly this beer is not as big as either of the big three Macro beers of the US.

Given the fact of what expenses are today, I`ve been looking for a "Go To Beer" Well, I`ve found it!! For the longest time I`ve shyed away from Genesee beer. Thats because the price is so ridiculosy inexpensive, I figured it must be awful! Man was I wrong!! Theres no way Im going to compare this to a craft beer, as that would not be the fair thing to do. Compared to BMC, I think this beer has got it all over those boys easily!

Drank it straight from the can, no metalic taste whatsoever. There is no aroma to this beer, But hell that sure beats being welcomed by the "Skunk"!

Tastes like an AAL, but much better. Its not at all overly sweet, And has a bit of hops notes in the finish.

Mouthfeel is light and refreshing, But drink it ice cold. As it warms up you will get the adjuncts gracing your palate.

Overall Im very pleased, and find this a very easy beer to drink! No bad aftertaste even after having several of them. If your`e on a tight budget, and cant always afford a craft beer, definitely give Genesee beer a go!! You just cant go wrong for 13.99 for a 30 pack!!

40 oz bottle, a touch warmer then fridge temp due to the ride back from the ghetto supermarket. $2.00 for a 40. poured some into a pint glass strictly for review purposes, but drank the rest from the bottle.

pours a super clear pale yellow color. a pretty big 2-3 finger soapy, fizzy, pure white head. pretty weak retention, faded pretty quickly, but definatly not as quick as most macros. lots of active bubbly carbonation visible. a touch of lace. towards the end of the glass there is no head at all.

smells of sweet corny malts. maybe a hint of some lager funk but thats about it.

taste is not too offensive. tastes of sweet corny malts again, grainy malts, and your typical lager funk. an ever so touch of floral hop flavor.

mouthfeel is light with a little bit of a watery feel, but again, not as bad as some of the mass produced macros, seems to have a bit more to it. too much carbonation, very fizzy on the tongue. leaves a lingering adjunct flavor in the mouth.

drinkability is about as good as any macro. goes down easy, but just not the most flavor in the world.

this beer has a lot of sentimental value for me. grew up watching my dad and his friends drink this. kind of local for me. its worth a shot buying this due to its really cheap price. to me its better than most of your big name macros, and hey, you cant beat the price. one of the cheapest beers i know of.

$6.99 a 12 pack brown bottles.

A: Pours a bright golden yellow with a decent initial head and significant carbonation. Some lacing as it goes down. Appearnace is Genesse beer's strongest point. It LOOKS like it is good.

S: A bit hard to pinpoint sweet, syrup.

T: Bitter, alcohol, corn, syrup.

M: Not good. Water and alcohol.

D: I drank about 1 case over a 6 week period. I can no longer drink it.

Summary:
This beer was in my "Recession Refreshin'" beer group with other sub $10 a 12-pack beers. It starts out ok, but after a few you really begin to taste the corny alcohol flavor which just isn't good.

Yellow pour, decent clarity, nice white head that had decent retention and lacing. Above average for an AAL. Aroma was non descript cereal grains and corn. Slightly sweet. Nothing in terms of hop aroma.

Taste, bitter, but no hops? Very metallic. No malt flavor or consistency. Corn is the most developed flavor, and its not necessarily a good one.

Mouthfeel is just carbonated water. You gotta be a local or accept advertising money to think this is good.

Appears filtered clear "golden" with a white fizzy head including nice scattered webs of lacing across my faceted mug. Aroma is light sweetness definitely some adjuncts present with a slight touch of hops, clean overall. Taste contains a crisp rolling gingery sweet not bad but decent bland but solid flavor. Balanced and cheap and better than most macros in my opinion. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied but not thin there' some decent fluffy texture here from the carbonation. Drinkability well, much better beer exists but I would still settle for this over most macros like I said, a cheap high quantity type brew.

24oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on July 9th 2013 according to the julian dating.

A: Pours a clear light golden with a fluffy dense white head. Bubbles start popping in the middle of the 2 finger head making it dissipate fairly quick. Average visible carbonation. Actually leaves some nice lacing.

S: Aroma you would expect from this style beer. Reminiscent of the mainstream adjuncts. A light malting with very mild hops.

T: Light flavor, pale malts and a touch of hopping. A sweetness to it that permeates throughout but does not overpower.

M: Light body with a good amount of carbonation. Crisp and refreshing finish that makes it an easy drinking beer. Just a touch of stickiness from the sweet malts but it helps prevent any harshness at the end.

Overall with the brewery right up the road this is one cheap brew thats fresh and cold. Beats most of the other adjuncts out there in flavor.

Is this a giant can of beer for $0.99 I see before me? Yea.

While I tried a Genesee/Dundee offshoot private label the other week (Port Republic Lager, review to follow if I can locate my notes) this is my first straight-up taste of Genesee. Saw it in an old package store I hadn't visited in a while, and what the hey it's always fun trying new stuff.

Poured into a pint glass; fairly standard gold water with heavy carbination and loads of suds. The head evaporated a bit, but some lingered longer than I expected. Looks like an AAL.

Smell was sweet, adjunct-y. Some grass notes as well. Smells like an AAL.

Here was the surprise; this didn't taste as bad as I was expecting. Sure, the usual suspects of corn, malt, dextrose and so on, but not overly sweet, not overly grainy from addatives either. Probably much closer to what American lager beer tasted like before BMC overtook the landscape.

The mouthfeel was very good. Very easy drinking and no aftertaste at all. No finish either, but to be fair you're not savoring something like this. A campfire/yardwork/payday isn't until next week kind of beer. Sessionable for sure. $2 and change will set you up for a while.

Overall, it looks like an AAL, smells like an AAL, but tastes a little better than one. I personally like a nice change up for IPAs and Belgian ales now and then, so I'd go for this again.

This is THE beer that I grew up on being from upstate NY. My late father always had Genesee on hand and probably knew that his boy was perhaps sneaking a beer or two. I consider this to be my "baseline" adjunct lager.

A - A very pale straw color with a somewhat weak and fleeting head.

S - Very adjunct dominated with cooked grains.

T - Different than others of this type but cereal dominates with a surprisingly clean finish.

M - Since the carbonation lasts throughout the mouth feel is almost tangy.

O - This is a great hot day beer. Considering what it is it isn't too bad. I'll take a Cream Ale or 12 Horse over a Genesee Beer but I won't turn one down if it's all there is.
