The challenge when review a macro lager is weather to review the beer on it's own merits or compared to the other beers in the style. As an American Macro Lager, Genesse beer is not the worst out there. It is very boring, but it is not offensive. Here is the breakdown:
Appearance: Pours a crystal clear pale yellow with a large frothy three finger head that is white and fizzy and rises quickly. I had to wait for it to settle to finish the pour into my imperial pint glass. The lacing is almost not worth mentioning those few specks.
Smell: It has a very thin lager aroma with subtle suggestions of sweetness and corn if you really dig hare but for the most part it is clean and blank.
Taste: The taste like the nose seems to be mostly missing. It is alcoholic and certainly approachable but it does not qualify as flavorful. There is a light grain sweetness and a dry snap at the end.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: It is light and crisp in the mouth. The most pleasing attribute of the beer is the clean aftertaste leaving it approachable and sessionable.
Hope this is helpful.

Went to the store in search of Red Stripe, Old Milwaukee or some other ...yeah ...cheap American beer. Saw Genesee sitting on the shelf for ...85 cents a 24oz can! Didn't take a calculator to figure out that's less than bottled water even with a 10 cent deposit. Not a bad brew but drink it cold....this is a great lawnmower hot summer day listen to the ballgame beer!
I give it a solid 4.00 because how can you beat an eight pack for under $4.00?
Light on the palate as well as the pocketbook....maybe a hint of metallic out of the can as it warms up but hey...that's your fault! No unpleasant aftertaste and a smooth drinking lager.
