you know, as these cheap local yellow beers go, this one isn't so bad. id take it over a host of competitors for its full flavored and fuller bodied refreshment, and its price. bright yellow in color, and it holds is head a lot better than many of its peers. the nose is sweet adjuncts, maybe corn even, it has that faint starchy thing going on, and a little leftover sugar. there is some balancing bitterness in the finish that probably has to come from hops, which i quite like, it resolves itself. its also real well carbonated, so when its ice cold from the bottle on a hot day, preferably one with a little manual labor, this is pretty spot on. now, there are thousands of craft beers i would prefer in this role, but sometimes you hang out with a grandpa or a farmer or a trucker or someone who doesn't drink craft, not that these demographics are predisposed to crappy beer, just shooting from the hip here. its a viable beverage in the context of no craft, and its way better than any of the macro yellow beers. ill drink more than one tonight... (1,054 characters)

This beer will quench your thirst. Its a hard working beer for a hard working guy that wants to kick back a few. It'll get you laid in a bar, its great with the friends. Nothing posh, but an honest beer for the blue collar stiff. Grab a case, get laid, watch NASCAR or golf. Life is good. (288 characters)

Awkwardly bitter. Just doesn't have even a small bit of balance. Hits with fake bitter, exits with syrupy sweet corniness. Not a huge difference between bracingly cold and just cold either. (190 characters)

My dad says he used to drink this when he was a poor college kid, not sure why anyone would want it otherwise, unless for novelty., which is why I have it. (155 characters)

A: Golden crystal clear straw color, decent 1/2 inch white head,

S: Not much, sweetness, grain, maybe a little hops

T: Sweet grain taste, grass, slight hop bitterness at the end

M: Light to medium, lively carbonated

O: Nothing special, definetly have had better in this style but it could be worse. (303 characters)

Look, this isn't a beer to over analyze. I think it's the best of the bad Macro beers. It's a tad sweeter, and has a bit of a cracker like flavor to go along with the corn adjunct. Drink it ice cold on a hot day and it's worth the pennies you pay for it. (254 characters)

I ran into this brand travelling back to Utah from Idaho and stopping for some "real beer" on the way. I was kind of excited when I saw it as I remember some Air Force Security Police buddy in 1982 at Dyess AFB TX always raving about the Cream ale made by same brewer. So if their was a "Nostalgia" rating button they would score higher. That said..too sweet and where's the hops? 17.99 for 30 pack is sure cheap though! (424 characters)

Sampled last night on 3/11/15. Single 12-ounce brown squat bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a vintage "Lowenbrau" handled-glass stein.

Brew pours a clear straw-yellow in color with a thin white cap. Some spotty lacing is seen when sipped. The aroma is of some grassy grains with a light hint of corn. Pretty much the same is said for the taste as well. Lighter-bodied with above average carbonation, that is why all the tiny streaming bubbles. Drinkable but that is about it. Nothing special and is cheap BUT then again you get what you pay for. Typical 'American Adjunct Lager' brew actually with some better than others. Not my type of brew style. (688 characters)

There is not much going on with this beer, but for this style of beer, it is not bad. I actually enjoy it. It brings back the great memories of college, just like when you pop into a PBR! (187 characters)

DATE TASTED: January 11, 2015... GLASSWARE: Ommegang pokal... OCCASION: cataloging my beers of the year--slow-motion spread sheet fun... APPEARANCE: glittering, shimmering golden body; snow white head that frizzles swiftly; sudsy inadequate residue... AROMA: toasty, oaty malts that pluck the nostrils; a secondary biscuit and sweet malts; slightly pungent finish... PALATE: oily, slightly effervescent; overall, a clean glass-emptying kind of lager ...TASTE: sweet, corny and grainy, with a malty base; not very balanced, with the ping that suggests a 40 oz.... OVERALL: when it was 36 cans for $10 (with a $5 mail-in rebate), it was a winner; now, its primary function is lining the top part of my beer fridge to keep its coldness; a mostly tolerable, predictable, unimpressive lager that only goes well after a few better beers have been consumed... (852 characters)

Not a bad beer at all. These big dogs are $1.50 at the local gas station. It's not a fancy brew, but as low end lagers goes, I am quite fond. It's crisp, with a slight frutiness and subtle crackery sweetness. Nil bitterness. No hops. It's the kind of beer you drink when you just want a plain ol beer. Style wise, when compared to it's peers, it's certainly the best among them. I'll take this any day if my options are Bud, Miller or Coors. (441 characters)

Patriotic-looking (not the one pictured here) 16oz can from a 6-pack purchased at a local Grocery Outlet for $5.79. No clear freshness date, though the bottom of the can is stamped “1704 12:03.” Maybe this means April 17th, but what year? Who knows…

Poured a clear straw color, with a big, sudsy and noisy white head that remained in place for a couple of minutes, then began a rapid decline, though a foamy collar remained throughout it’s time in my glass. Lots of tiny bubbles could be seen hurtling skyward. Spotty lace left on the sides of my Boston Lager glass.

Cereal grains made up the nose, which was mercifully skunk-free, but was otherwise not that interesting.

The taste was about what one would expect for the style: malty up front, almost no hop flavor, and a clean finish. Again, there’s no skunkiness or crude, grainy harshness that sometimes seems like a given for the style.

Light bodied, with a decent mouthfeel – it’s a little watery, but given the style, it’s not bad

I was afraid this would be like the Silver Stallion I once encountered at the same place, but this was a decent, no-frills macro-style lager. Unlike other beer “finds” in such stores, this didn’t appear to have been sitting on a shelf for a long time, and was pretty drinkable for what it was. By no means was this something I’d tell someone to seek out, as it’s pretty interchangeable for many other, similar, beers, but for the same price I’d buy it again. (1,479 characters)

Went to the store in search of Red Stripe, Old Milwaukee or some other ...yeah ...cheap American beer. Saw Genesee sitting on the shelf for ...85 cents a 24oz can! Didn't take a calculator to figure out that's less than bottled water even with a 10 cent deposit. Not a bad brew but drink it cold....this is a great lawnmower hot summer day listen to the ballgame beer!
I give it a solid 4.00 because how can you beat an eight pack for under $4.00?
Light on the palate as well as the pocketbook....maybe a hint of metallic out of the can as it warms up but hey...that's your fault! No unpleasant aftertaste and a smooth drinking lager. (634 characters)

24 oz. can for $1.09 poured into my coke glass.

A - Straw. Minimal head dissipates quickly. Slight lacing stops after a few drinks.

S - Corn.

T - Corn, grains, and hops. Goes down sweet with a tiny bit of staleness at the end.

M - Medium to light. Properly carbonated.

O - Good session beer. It's a bit like Budweiser, except this tastes like a real beer. This would be a great lawnmower beer if I had lawn. (412 characters)

Pours beautifully. Straw colored golden with a fat white head that fell fast and left splotchy lacing. Brilliant clarity . You could read through it. Lots of bubbles streaming up to the top./ Nose is faint light grain and a touch of cooked corn. A bit of hop herbal and perfectly clean. No fruity esters whatsoever. Just lovely. Taste is crisp with some firm carbonation. Light sweet grain, cooked corn that is sweet and delicious. There is a touch of mineral or metallic on the palate but it's from the water. This finishes dry and with a nice little bitter to tease you into more and more. Light smooth mouthfeel and you could drink this beer all day. Nothing wrong with it at all but it is thin and develops a watery quality as it warms. It also gains a bit of sour taste from the combined grains as ti warms. (812 characters)

This is THE beer that I grew up on being from upstate NY. My late father always had Genesee on hand and probably knew that his boy was perhaps sneaking a beer or two. I consider this to be my "baseline" adjunct lager.

A - A very pale straw color with a somewhat weak and fleeting head.

S - Very adjunct dominated with cooked grains.

T - Different than others of this type but cereal dominates with a surprisingly clean finish.

M - Since the carbonation lasts throughout the mouth feel is almost tangy.

O - This is a great hot day beer. Considering what it is it isn't too bad. I'll take a Cream Ale or 12 Horse over a Genesee Beer but I won't turn one down if it's all there is. (683 characters)

OK, so tall boy extra 24oz can, not expecting much at all, hopefully something drinkable.

Pours a huge over carbonated almost 3 finger head that fades at a med pace, lots of bubbles, and somehow still light spotty lacing, crystal clear watery yellow color.

Nose brings light malts, corn and adjunct additions, adjunct malt addition like syrupy mess, hint toasty straw malt, and hint grassy hop, but otherwise pretty much nothing going for it.

Taste brings more adjunct corn flavor, corn mash, creamed corn creamy taste, light bitter grassy hops, adjunct mess, little grassy malt if you push it, the hops aren't too bad actually, the malts are meh though. Light and drinkable for a macro like beer that isn't skunked and undrinkable. Finish is dry and light bitter grassy hops, fairly meh overall on the finish too, macro syrupy mess, light sulfury unappy lager.

Mouth is lighter bod, decent carb but lighter.

Overall meh, as expected for adjunct lager but not as bad as the off flavors are not overpowering. (1,013 characters)

This is a great little adjunct lager....for an adjunct lager. I'm going to go ahead and rate it within its style because why not. It's very very smooth, inoffensive, and has a supremely pleasant mouthfeel to it while delivering a desirable taste. It's got all the basics. The basics that you'd think are the bare minimum for a beer, but many of the most popular brands seem to almost TRY to sink below that. This, however, is a great go-to inoffensive lager. I can honestly say I enjoyed it. The extremely light colour worried me at first, but the lacing on my glass mug was decent and it had more taste than it looked like it would. I made a good choice by giving this a try. (676 characters)

24oz can poured into a snifter. Canned on July 9th 2013 according to the julian dating.

A: Pours a clear light golden with a fluffy dense white head. Bubbles start popping in the middle of the 2 finger head making it dissipate fairly quick. Average visible carbonation. Actually leaves some nice lacing.

S: Aroma you would expect from this style beer. Reminiscent of the mainstream adjuncts. A light malting with very mild hops.

T: Light flavor, pale malts and a touch of hopping. A sweetness to it that permeates throughout but does not overpower.

M: Light body with a good amount of carbonation. Crisp and refreshing finish that makes it an easy drinking beer. Just a touch of stickiness from the sweet malts but it helps prevent any harshness at the end.

Overall with the brewery right up the road this is one cheap brew thats fresh and cold. Beats most of the other adjuncts out there in flavor. (909 characters)

Yellow pour, decent clarity, nice white head that had decent retention and lacing. Above average for an AAL. Aroma was non descript cereal grains and corn. Slightly sweet. Nothing in terms of hop aroma.

Taste, bitter, but no hops? Very metallic. No malt flavor or consistency. Corn is the most developed flavor, and its not necessarily a good one.

Mouthfeel is just carbonated water. You gotta be a local or accept advertising money to think this is good. (459 characters)
