Wandered in here to kill some time. The sign is beyond obnoxious, huge backlit block letters on the corner and again on the side of the building. You'd think such a loud sign wouldn't be necessary on such a prominent corner. Umbriago is a re-concepted bar, it used to be Eatt (same owners).

Lots of staff milling around at 5pm, but no one at the host stand so I wandered further to the bar on the left hand side. Upscale modern vibe, lots of wood and dim warm lights. There was a large table of food by the door, and no other patrons in the place. Had I stumbled in early on a private party? No, I guess that's just their shtick, it's an antipasti table that you order from off a little checklist. Ok.

Beer seemed to be a marginal inclusion to their "concept", no drafts, a handful of overpriced Italian bottles, the usual stuff found everywhere plus several Rev beers and basic Goose pitched as "local". I had a Nuova Mattina for $15, served in a wine glass. They also had Re Extra, Isaac, My Antonia, Sesonette, Sella di Diavolo, Toccadibo, Verdi, and Via Emilla. It seemed like these were picked at random off a distributors list, and just an incidental part of the overall concept. The server excused herself to attend a staff meeting in the back, but checked on me when another guy came in.

Overall not worth BA's time beer-wise, several better places within a stone's throw. Hell, Rossi's is a block away and they had Alpha Klaus. Also nearby are Rock Bottom, Stout, Clark St. Ale House, and Farmhouse. File this one under "trying too hard", another useless entry to beerfly.
