This is about as close to Sculpin as a beer can get. In fact, I'm pretty sure the brewer from Ironfire used to work at Ballast. Similar overall aroma and smell, with maybe slightly less aroma than really fresh sculpin and maybe a touch more bitterness. Overall a pretty nice IPA.

Hands down the best brewery in Temecula and one of the best in a large radius! Everything they do is fantastic! The Ballast Point pedigree is apparent yet, like with a son and his father, eventually the apprentice becomes the master! This is a phenomenal IPA! A seamless blend of several hop varieties makes for a crisp, dry, piney, citrusy bomb that you would never suspect came from a year-old brewery! There's a reason these guys are blowing up and a reason they have an absurdly loyal following!

Good solid IPA. A little malty for my taste.

Poured into a flute glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a thin white head that dissipates to a ring around the glass leaving slight lacing. Aroma of citrus and piney hops, grapefruit, faint biscuit malt. Flavor is very hop forward; grassy, herbal and citrus hops. Light biscuit malt body that supports the hops surprisingly well. Finish is somewhat dry with a long, lingering herbal hop finish. Medium bodied with hints of creaminess. I usually don't like light malt body in my IPAs, but 51/50, which is very up front about the malt taking the back seat, seems to be designed around this and I really enjoyed this IPA. A very nice balance of hops that stand on their own. It's a sign of a good brewery when they can make you enjoy a style that you are normally not excited about. I'll check out their other ales.
