Served from a growler at RBWG2014, so it probably has a disadvantage compared to samples straight from a nitro tap.

Pours opaque and near black with an excellent head.

Flavor: lightly sweet, smokey and fruity.

Very smooth feel.

O: very good despite a relatively unimpressive flavor.

Had this in a becker pint glass.

When the beer got to the table, it displayed a solid and squat finger's width of khaki-ish cap. The body was more of an almond brown with lighter ruddy highlights.

Unexpected roasted coffee note on the nose with a bouquet of dark chocolate and earthy roast. No frills irish dry stout more than milk stout so far, but with a good punch of coffee.

The palate is engulfed with roasted characteristics: roasted coffee, roasted malt, slight roast nuttiness. Dark chocolate and more coffee also hit at mid-palate and into the finish. Also a nice earthiness blending with semi-sweet roast notes in the swallow, nice wave of flavors to this Confluence offering.

Milk Man has a decent medium heft, maybe more watery on the tongue than it needs to be. The drier body is absolutely appropriate for the style.

This is an easy drinking milk stout. The roasted notes do not take over completely thanks to the play of the chocolate malt and the lactose. I appreciated how coffee roast flavors also spice this offering up. I would definitely drink this one again.

Sampling right now on 2/12/15. Bought this 32 ounce (Quart) 'Growler' today at the Hy-Vee next door in Council Bluffs, Iowa for $9.69. Has a screw-off lid that was sealed with plastic. Talked to the manager (Danny G.) and he said tried it and was fantastic. On the side of the label it says: Keep out of sunlight, keep refrigerated, drink within 24 hours of opening, rinse growler with hot water and visit our taproom to purchase a refill. Enjoy". Well, no worries about drinking this within 24 hours. :) Growler chilled down on the way home in the back of the trunk since the temp was 19 degrees for the high. LOL! Poured half in to a 16 ounce handled-glass stein, twice actually.

Brew pours a pitch black in color with a 3-finger foamy beige head that settles down to a 2mm head with more along the sides of the glass after a good 10+ minutes. LOTS of ring lacing is seen that sticks to the insides of the glass also. The aroma is of sweet dark roasted malts with a very light hint of dark fruit and smoke. The taste is pretty much the same. Very smooth and goes down so easy. No harsh or bitter aftertaste at all. Medium-bodied with perfect lower carbonation. A fantastic Milk Stout like the manager said. :) Well worth the price of the brew and will go with a perfect '10". As good as it gets! Fantastic!
