Poured from a 16 ounce can into a Pilsener glass. The can features really unique and colorful lithograph-like artwork featuring a pair of 19th century Irishmen chopping down a gigantic morel mushroom. The label states "organic". A moderate pour produces about 3/4 inch pale brown head with nice creamy lace sticking to the sides of the glass. The remnant head produces a few lighter colored dimples reminiscent of tapioca, or perhaps small globules of oil. The beer is a very dark brown, bordering on downright black.

The aroma is fairly faint (my poor weak olfactory sense!), but I detect a slightly sour malt smell with a hint of metal (which I don't mind), perhaps a little bit of (dare I say it!) cannabis....No kidding....Power of suggestion perhaps?- the label also features some nice green hops, along with the giant mushrooms, so maybe that's why I'm smelling that...hmmm...

Onto the full taste- wow! Very nice...Definitely a strong hint of chocolate along with the sweet malt, with just enough hop bitterness to balance. Also very definitely a touch of smoke or peat- but not too much. This slight peat taste I find very appropriate, and very unlike some extremely smoky beers that I've tried before. There's also a bit of a fruity taste, most evident in the aftertaste and burps- rather like plums or raisins, or even mincemeat. Maybe a wee wee bit of a metallic taste from the can, but I really don't mind this at all. At any rate, it's a small price to pay for ease or recycling, and also to give our poor Mother Earth a break. The flavors keep coming out as you drink it....I think I taste something like kippers now... interesting.

This can was given to me by a friend. Overall, this is a damn fine beer. I'm not a stout head, necessarily (yet) but I'm gaining more of an appreciation for the variety that seems inherent in this style, and I'm definitely going to buy some of this.

Poured from a pint can into a conic pint glass in high elevation Libby, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- Cascading head, like a proper Irish stout. THICK. Like a hand's width thick of mocha brown head with tiny bubbles. Mahogany brown colored body with no clarity. The head lasts several minutes before settling on an inch-thick mocha head. Attractive looking beer.

S- Toasted malts, toffee, some brown sugar. Sweet desserty beer. No real hops in the nose. Non complex, but appealing aroma.

T- Oop. Something is wrong here. Soapy. Burnt coffee grounds, roasted flavors. Perhaps some toffee and chocolate. Hard for me to say just exactly what went wrong here, just that something did.

M- Too airy and fluffy. Like drinking a pint of whipped cream or something.

O- Started off so nicely, but the taste and feel are utterly wrong for the style.

Appearance- pebbly two finger head with good retention and black as night, almost completely impenetrable by light except for the edges

Smell- light chocolate/coffee scent with crisp dry lager-like zing

Taste- toasty yet not boasty, stays true to the Irish Dry roots and keeps the boldness of an American stout style at bay, I want to say hops are kept noble

Mouthfeel- super smooth on the way down, medium-big body

Overall- totally drinkable, really dig the sustainability and organic practices, they come through in the beer

Got this as an extra in a trade. Reviewing from notes taken on St. Patricks Day.
Apparently an Irish Dry Stout that has been made from organic materials that have been grown with natural waste from the brewery. Talk about sustainable!

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Deep brown color with a very attractive brown head. The head disintegrates after several minutes and leaves no lacing behind and hardly anything else on top of the beer. Not a nitrogenated can so I wasn't expecting a super smooth creamy head, but I was hoping that the head would stick around longer.

This beer has a very light aroma. Unfortunately the light aroma and the fact that it strikes me as a very bland, one-dimensional aroma made me take the score down a few notches. Faint hint of raisins in the aroma. A whiff of European hops under everything maybe? There is an odd aroma that I can't figure out completely. I want to say that it is butterscotch.

Upon tasting the beer, I think it really is a buttery aroma. The taste is also equally bland, with only a light presence of roasted grains. Like coffee and cream, but mostly cream with a splash of coffee. Toffee, butter in the profile. Almost imperceptible hop bitterness.

The body isn't too bad, and the beer has a good level of carbonation, but my biggest issue with the beer come at this point. This is not much of a "dry" stout. They probably need to use more roasted barley (unmalted barley) in order to get the right mouthfeel here.

I hate to give such a crappy score to a small brewer out there, but this was a flawed beer. It did not represent the style well, nor does it make up for that by being interesting to drink. I would not buy this beer. They need to improve the roasted quality and clean the beer up a bit.
