Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: deep, dark brown hue with dark red highlights when held up to the light, plus a strong effervescence. Head is a thick finger of pillowy tan foam. I think it's quite attractive indeed.

Smell: sweet malt with a light element of caramel, toffee and dark fruits. It's a little too sweet for me, but otherwise quite good.

Taste: rich fruitiness with raisin, cherry and tobacco; finish is caramel and toffee. This style can be so good when executed well, as it is here; I'm a fan.

Mouthfeel: light body but with a huge carbonation and surprisingly satisfying creaminess. Bam!

Overall: I tend to like dark European lagers, and this is among the better of them. I'd definitely have this again.

500ml bottle. Pokal glass. Brown color, very dark amber tints to the light. Beige tan froth, close crown & correct retention. Roasted, sweettish aromas & slightly hoppy notes. Some metallic odors. Sweet malty syrup flavors & cloying sensation. Light body. Moderate to high carbonation. Watery texture. Sweetish finish & slight earthy bitterness. Flat & boring.

A: The beer is crystal clear dark mahogany red in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin tan head that quickly died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sweet nutty and toasted malts are present in the nose along with some hints of molasses.
T: The overall taste is somewhat sweet and has flavors of nutty and toasted malts with some hints of burnt sugar and molasses.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and a little thin on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer doesn't have a very complex taste, but it is rather easy to drink.

500 ml. bottle, pours a dark brown colour, with a small off white head that dissipates soon, leaving a small lace. Smell is very weak, some coffee and caramel. Medium to light body and too much carbonation. Taste of caramel, chocolate, some coffee and coke.

Another Praga I had to try because of good conversation about Czech Dark Lagers.

Best by 08.30.13 on the label.

A -- Clear, deep chestnut color with a creamy tan head that settles to a nice cap, leaving good, sticky lacing.

S -- Sweet, bready malts with a touch of molasses giving a good impression of Pumpernickel.

T -- Same sweet breadiness in the flavor with a mild touch of roastiness at the finish. Some hop bitterness and lingering sweetness in the aftertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is smooth and soft with a medium-heavy body.

O -- A very nice beer that's a cross between a Munich Dunkel and a Schwarzbier. I would love to sample this fresh at the source, it's the type of Dark Lager I love to find.

11.2 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass.

A: Pours a dark chestnut color. The head is a creamy-looking one finger offwhite shade. It fades away at a decent rate, but leaves a miniscule ring of lacing on the glass.

S: There's a pleasant nuttiness at first, with even more pleasant grassy hops hidden beneath that. Hints of coffee abound; the aroma has a real hazelnut vibe I enjoy. The aroma could be a bit bolder, otherwise I really like it.

T: At first, the hazelnut qualities from the aroma trickle down to the flavors. After that, it transitions to more raisin-y tone near the back end, before a touch of hops cleanse the finish some. It's too sweet, I think - some more grassy hops on the back end could have really made this one special.

M: This is a bit more lumbering than one would expect from a 4.5% dark lager; this has both a positive and negative effect. On the plus side, it helps give it a richer feel, but at the same token, it doesn't have the drinkability it should feature. Carbonation is soft, which is a good match for the treacly texture.

O: Being a Czech dark lager, I expected more Saaz hops. It's certainly well made, but like I said, it's just too sweet at the end of the day. Still pretty good.
