12 oz. bottle, with a space for a bottled on date but it has been left blank. Another new local brew to me from Church Street Brewing Co., out of Itasca, Illinois. I have been generally impressed with these guys so far, so my expectations are good.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a nice cloudy orange colored body with one finger of soapy white head that sticks around and leaves some nice scraggly lacing. Standard appearance for the style, but it looks nice.

S - The smell is interesting, to be sure - caramel malt, creaminess / soapiness, very fruity and tropical smelling - elderberries come to mind in particular. Some very interesting hops used here that I'm not too familiar with - Zythos and Motueka.

T - Ah yes, these were some truly interesting hop varieties used here. Lightly piney and bitter, but this IPA is much more tropical and berry tasting than many IPA's. Earthy caramel / toffee malt noticeable, but I'm not really pulling out any distinct rye, which the bottle says there is some.

M - The feel is smooth and creamy, bitter and dry on the finish. Medium-light bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, a unique and interesting new local IPA in a sea of IPA's that all seem to taste the same. This was definitely a pleasant surprise. I will be looking into more of this.

Served from the bottle in an Ohio State shaker pint glass.

Is it Jimi or "Cassandra"? Anyway, this stuff pours a clear brass topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises grapefruit, light musty orange peel, light greens, mild toast, and a bit of caramel. The taste takes a bit of a turn, though, aiming for stark bitterness, mainly from a pine's branch, though some kale sneaks in there as well. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, this IPA just didn't do it for me. Instead of the balanced, fruity take on the style evinced by the smell, it went with a blunt and kinda sloppy hammerblow of bitterness that just doesn't work.
