Yet another questionable entry to beerfly, an average Irish bar with 10 macro taps out of 16. The best options being Krankshaft, Two Hearted, and Daisy Cutter... ubiquitous at any beer bar in Chicago. In bottles there was Dragons Milk and Tripel Karmeliet, and about 20 macros. Would it hurt to have a few more locals... like maybe, I dunno, Emmett's? Seems like they just picked 10-12 basic craft beers to see if they would sell.
The current bar has been here 18 years, a few films (Backdraft, Oceans 11, Uncle Buck), an a few tv shows/commercials have been filmed here over the years. I imagined John Candy peering in the windows, as he did 20+ years ago in a scene from Uncle Buck. It has a worn in everyman(person?) vibe, with vintage tile floors, pressed tin ceilings, and decorative bookshelves 12' up high on the wall. A marketable backdrop for bar scenes and beer commercials I guess.
For the BA crowd, skip Emmit's and walk 2-3 blocks to Paramount Room, or maybe next door to Richard's if you're looking for a respectable dive. Haymarket, Publican, and Au Cheval are a mere 5-7 blocks south on Halsted.
