On draft at Wickenden. 1l into glass mug.

2 fingers of head. Nice lacing, pretty dense snow-like head. Beer has a dull yellowy orange hue.

Nose is of peppermint and pine needles. Subdued. But that could be due to serving temp (ice cold). EDIT - as it warms the nose becomes stronger.

Bitter pith, grapefruit and orange rind. Very bitter, lingering. Yes, please. Cascade? Chinook? I can't place it. Reminds me of a SNPA on steroids. Not much malt in the grand scheme of things, this is dry compared to Trinity IPA- and tastier than Storm's Fox Point.

Crisp, clean finish. Smooth and tasty. I want more.

I wasn't sure about this at first, but over the last few days this has become my go-to beer here at the Wickenden Pub. I like it- a great first effort from Foolproof. This beer had put them on my radar for sure. Bring on the cans!

EDIT: 2nd batch tasted better than the first. Will revise my score if it holds for next time.

12 ounce can, w/o freshness info

Clouded darker shade of golden amber. Sturdy and lasting lite khaki head, leaves real nice froth, low sheeting and scattered fine lace. Nice looking beer.

Big nose w/ floral, citric and per-fumy notes.

Well hopped and fresh tasting IPA, with more citrus n pine hop bombs dropping all over.

Quality IPA in a can. Impressed with this one.

A: Slightly hazy, light burnt orange color, head retention is a little weak.

S: Pine up front with tangerine in the background that lingers strongly. Floral notes too. All fairly subdued but clearly evident.

T: A dash of pine right away then an orange-tangerine flavor that reminds me of the Push-Ups frozen treats I ate as a kid. Citrus character blends perfectly with the malt. Finishes with a strong floral character that is almost honey like, again blending well with the malt. Bitterness is about right and lingers well.

F: Clean and refreshing with the right amount of bitterness in the finish.

O: I'm surprised that this beer isn't rated a little higher. No Heady killer, but clean, tasty, solid all around, the brewer can be proud. I'm not grilling for awhile but will try it out on the deck next spring.

Another beer courtesy of the legendary woodychandler. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Came gushing out of the can making quite a mess, despite no agitation on my end. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, a bit of hops. Taste is bitter, hoppy, a bit of lemons, kind of unusual for the style, and a touch unpleasant. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

Consumed 3/8/13

Appearance: Deep gold with some copper highlights - small, off-white head, fades quickly to a nonexistent cap - leaves a few tiny spots of lacing

Smell: Interesting hop profile - dry pine needles - orange and grapefruit rind, pith - some grapefruit flesh in the background - grassy and herbal - some caramel malts in the back

Taste: Unexpectedly aggressive - oily citrus, rind and pith - pine needles, grass, and aspirin - very bitter - minimal sweetness, which is a plus here - some dry caramel malts - an earthy undertone

Mouthfeel: Medium body, crisp, slightly sticky in the finish

Overall: Interesting, but not a showstopper

Maybe this should be enjoyed in a lawn chair in your backyahd. It has some citrusy hops, but it is also remarkably grassy. In some ways, the grassy and earthy notes are reminiscent of an APA. This just has a bigger hop profile. Worth a try.
