We put together an insane malt bill for Revery – two row, Crystal 40, Carafa, roasted barley, chocolate malt, and flaked oats combine to make Revery incredibly smooth and rich while boasting a high alcohol content. A delicate blend of Northern Brewer, Tettnanger, and Hallertau hops round out this wintery masterpiece.

From the 650 ml. bottle dated November 2013. Sampled January 11, 2014.

It pours a deep black color with a lingering tan head. Some lacing as it fades.

On the nose there are many interesting characteristics underway. I get dark malts, chocolate, cocoa, and even a touch of oats.

The body is mainly in the medium range but it is pretty smooth overall.

The taste has some similarities to the aroma but the difference is that there is a certain bitter bite attacking the palate at the end. At 10.7% ABV there is little to no boozy character but the bitterness does have a bite. A nice Impy Stout. (599 characters)

22 oz. bomber dated November 2014 purchased from the brewery, poured into a Foolproof pint glass with almost no head and even less carbonation. Had the correct opacity (or lack thereof) and mocha-colored foam. Acrid smell, hard to pin down. Somewhere between fresh asphalt and sulfur. Taste is bland, although not unappealing. The mouthfeel is particularly weak and insubstantial, borderline watery. Foolproof has better offerings, check out their saison/farmhouse ale, the LFU. (478 characters)

Dark viscous black with a dark caramel buttercream head. Smells like VOCs from a fresh can of paint. Tastes...vacant. There's a huge mouthfeel with very little roast malt flavor. Too much flaked oats and roasted barley make this RIS like a giant body over flavor Irish Dry Stout.

I'd either dump this recipe or dump it in some bourbon barrels. (345 characters)
