The workday is done, and it's time to unwind...
notecard_LFULa Ferme Urbaine (LFU) is our unique take on a farmhouse ale. Influenced by the Belgian saison style, LFU features a complex blend of German hops, pilsener and pale malts, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt. The beer pours a hazy straw color and delivers a spicy, dry finish. So raise a glass and enjoy!

Found this in the depths of my fridge. Foolproof is always nice to have, though they receive some unnecessary hate in the local beer scene, but I usually like what they put out

Pours a cloudy golden amber with a finger of off white head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing

The aroma is pretty light but still attractive. I pick up notes of floral grain, lemon peel, honey, and wheat

The taste starts off with tart lemon, funky leather, and light bready malt. The swallow brings botes of earthy wheat, orange zest, and honey

A medium body pairs with light prickly carbonation for a smooth sipper that drinks much lighter than the abv. Finishes dry and mostly sweet

This was good, but nothing special. It’s surprisingly refreshing for nearly 8%. It definitely achieves that old world vibe, very rustic and raw. I’ll drink it again when the taproom is open for pours

$3.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: "This Belgian-style saison features a complex blend of German hops, and pale malts, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt." - that seems a little over-done to me but we'll see. In the glass it's a hazy glowing orange beneath a creamy cap of off-white foam. The aroma is fruity, a little earthy, and a touch spicy. It's not a big bright aroma but that's OK. On to the flavor... ohh, it's a bit tart, and I clearly get the spelt - unfortunately I'm not a fan of spelt, it tastes kind of like cardboard to me, but perhaps woody is a more diplomatic word to use - I don't want to imply that it's oxidized, just that I don't like the taste of spelt. I'm getting some sharp fruit, some plum, some apple... and I'm not sure what it is, something that seems a little like orange and dried apricot. The wheat is clearly present as well but I'm not really finding the rye, which is totally fine. I'm guessing the idea here was to partially replicate what you would have found a few hundred years ago when farmers were just using up whatever they had on hand to brew up a beer for the seasonal workers. What's the strength on this? 7.8%, well that's not accurate, but who would buy it if it was only 2 to 3%? It's got a nice balance with the gently sweet malt balanced by acidity and a light bitterness. The mouthfeel is quite pleasant as well. It's medium-light in body with a very fine, seemingly natural carbonation that leaves it smooth once it warms a bit. In the end I'd call this a winner. It's interesting and complex, and yet balanced and drinkable.

One of the tastiest Beligian style ales I've had in a long time... and brewed in Pawtucket!

Imagine!

[Original rating 2015-12-30] Draft at Horseshoe Pub, Hudson, MA. Aroma of citrus, straw, bread. Taste is similar, with a hint of spice, black pepper. Dry finish. Really good saison, glad I tried it.

On tap at Cassarino's in Providence (Federal Hill/Little Italy). Not too sour which I liked. Not overwhelming Belgian, a saison/blonde if you will.

12oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker orange copper body, one finger thick white head, long retention and plenty of lacing. Smell is light caramel, cloves, allspice, a bit of rye, noble hops. Touch of banana bread. Flavour follows, a bit spicy, floral and a bit earthy, caramel, straw, touch of lemon, crackers. Mouthfeel is medium lighter bodied, fairly spicy on the backend, with a moderate noble hop bitterness. Decent farmhouse ale, different than most; the spice is kind of interesting as well.

A wonderful Saison. Beautiful unfiltered copper color that produced a decent head which dissipated somewhat quickly. Highly carbonated, light yet slick mouthfeel. Not overly spiced like some. Does a fantastic job of hiding this 7.8% ABV. Very drinkable. Very well may be my beer of choice this summer.
