Another one I've been dying to try from Damasse.

Pours a nice fizzy 1+ finger head that fades at a decent rate, with nice soapy lacing that also seems to fade, mostly clear golden honey colored beer.

Nose is pretty much what I expected, start with nice saison aromas, the right kick of esters, nice light phenols, bit farmhouse like, Belgian aromatic floral esters and very light spices like aromas, very faint lemon zest, the esters bring that fruity apple skin and touch of pear, and light grainy wheat like grassy malt character.

Taste starts with a bit of sweetness, Belgian golden like malts, with some light toasted wheat and grainy flavors, little cracked wheat almost. Then nice saison flavors, good kick of esters again, touch of apple skin and pear as well, nice blend of phenols with that, and touch of warming booze, faint saison spices with that, and touch of farmhouse flavors, then a bit of light citrus and rind. Some bitterness, a touch of a grassy lemony hop, and some citrus rind bitterness from the yeast I think. Finish is a little sticky but drier, lingering citrus, light esters and touch of phenols, light kick of booze, and sweet Belgian malts.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb, faint touch of warming booze.

Overall a nice saison, pretty much what I expected for a saison. Doesn't do anything very special, but well done, nice malts, good yeast characters, and nice bitterness with a touch of hops. Pretty good beer.

Consumed 6/3/14

Appearance: Mostly clear, lightly hazy, deep gold with some honey - pours with a large head, retains a mostly solid cap, thick collar, and leaves some nice spots of lacing

Smell: Grains, light bread, light fruits, and a touch of funk - interesting array of malty and grainy aromas, including pale grains, wheat, light bread, barely cooked biscuits, and some hints of caramel grains and rye - lightly funky Belgian yeast with some farmhouse funk, clove, banana, and bubblegum - some malty sweetness, sugar, apples, grapes, and pears - pepper and more sweetness

Taste: Definitely interesting, even if I usually prefer my saisons to be dryer - nice complexity in the malts, with some pale and caramel grains, wheat, rye, and oats - decidedly bready; quite literally like a multigrain bread - some funky Belgian yeast, with some funk, clove, banana, bubblegum, and more pepper than in the aroma - floral aspects - lightly tart green apple, pear, and white grapes - finishes with some sweetness and maybe a touch of alcohol

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, finishes wet and spicy

Overall: Pawtucket, the farmhouse of Rhode Island (???)

This was more interesting than expected. It's a bit on the sweet side, but the complexity of the malt profile kind of makes up for it. At the very least, this serves as a strong reminder that I need to actually tour this brewery before I move out of RI.

12oz can poured into a Bruery tulip.

A - Pours a touch darker than a straw golden color, moderately hazed and capped with a huge three finger head of fluffy white foam with excellent staying power. Thick soapy webs of lacing are left all down the sides of the glass.

S - Spicy, peppery up front with faint cloves. Very estery with a big melony fruit aroma, lemons, oranges...a bit of over-ripe fruit, hints of sweet pickles, grassy. A lot going on here - a veritable garden of fresh aromas.

T - Mildly tart up front that transforms to a bitter hop impression that ends in a dry biscuit-like maltiness. Pepper/spicy notes linger past the swallow leaving a noticeable feel on the tongue (I am very sensitive to peppery spices however). Lemony citrus mixes in towards the front of each sip, lightly fruity overall. Mix of a lot of stuff thrown together here too...lots of other fruity flavors that I can't place as they are a bit jumbled together.

M - Lighter body with a very intense and prickly carbonation that fills the entire mouth - very gassy beer. Spicy and fruity as expected for a farmhouse ale.

O - I like it, but don't love it. Lots of good aspects to this beer - maybe a bit too much going on for its own good though. I would have this again, but plenty of other saisons that I would pull off the shelf first given the choice...

A: Hazy yellow in color. Forms a moderate sized fizzy white head that quickly reduces to a thin surface coating and then nothing at all. No lacing.

S: Aroma is pleasant. A blend of yeasty esters, spice, apple juice, and fruits.

T: Taste is disjointed. The pale malt backbone is fairly light. Some light fruity notes: apple and pear. There are strong yeasty spices, prickly spices, coriander, that seem out of place.

M: Lighter bodied. Moderate carbonation. Prickly in the mouth. A slight burning/numbing sensation on the backend that I don't attribute to alcohol.

O: This beer almost seems to be more of a Belgian Pale then what I would normally associate as a Farmhouse. It's a decent beer, but there are far better out there.
