This beer pours dark with a carmel head that dissipates eventually. It's beautiful and almost has a dark, dark, mahogany color when held to the light.

The smell is unbelievable with vanilla, chocolate, and a roasted note coming through.

The beer coats your mouth and is very smooth. You get a hit of chocolate and vanilla up front and the whiskey starts to set in as the beer finishes.

I have enjoyed a few of these and find myself enjoying them more each time I have one. The perfect stout.

A- dark brown/mahogany with a thin brown head that fades quickly.
S- vanilla, Irish whiskey, rye, pepper, oak, tobacco, with a bit of smokiness
T- vanilla, smoked grains, rye, harsh spices, bourbon, fire wood, bakers chocolate
M- thinner body for an imperial stout, medium carbonation.
O- pretty complex flavor and aroma. If you are expecting a sweet vanilla ice cream stout this is not the one. The only downfall is the thin body and weak head retention.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with some transparency. Small khaki head.

Smell - Tons of vanilla. Milk chocolate. A little bit of barrel, but not a ton.

Taste - Vanilla right up front. Dark chocolate. Oaky. There's a sharp, almost green pepper flavor. Off-putting.

Mouthfeel - Well carbonated. Medium body.

Overall - The aftertaste isn't pleasant, but it does smell incredible.

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2+ fingers of mocha colored head. Sheets of lacing & very nice head retention

S: Vanilla & Bourbon

T: Follows the nose, caramel, dryness & faint roastyness up front, plus dark chocolate. More vanilla, a bit of caramel with dryness, a touch of smoke & booze as this warms, plus more oaky dryness. Finishes with vanilla & caramel sweetness & oakyness

MF: Chewy, low carbonation, so smooth

Drinks extremely easy, the ABV is extremely well masked, another great stout from Prairie,. I will pick some up to age if I get the chance

Infected unfortunately. Still some vanilla and decent base. Mildly sour with a dark bitter aftertaste. Probably really solid if you get a good one!

Pours out black. Chocolate milk colored head. Stout base is redolent of chocolate and coffee aromas. The nose hints at vanilla, and has a pronounced bourbon barrel character. The flavor has big roasted malts, although I don't get an outright coffee flavor or chocolate. Vanilla comes out more in the flavor than in the smell. Bourbon barrel gives a bit of sour-ish heavy oak. Mouthfeel is full, smooth, and creamy. This is solid, but I'm not crazy about the barrel and vanilla combo on this one.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of vanilla and roasted malt notes with some light coffee notes and bourbon. Taste is also dominated by roasted malt notes with plenty of coffee and vanilla with nice bourbon finish. Body is full with nice rich creamy body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Smooth drinking with plenty of complexity but I still think I prefer the chiles in the original version.

Poured from the bottle into my Idle Hands snifter. No bottle date found...

A - Black as a marker with a light brown half finger head, decent lace left on the glass

S - A punch of whiskey waft hits immediately with hints of vanilla and chocolate in the background, nice balanced aroma

T - Close to the nose, I get whiskey at the forefront and then a solid balance of vanilla, malts, chocolate and oak. Slightly bitter whiskey notes in the finish. Again, balanced incredibly well

M - Awesome. Low carbonation with a creamy, smooth feel. Whiskey and oak can be felt rolling off the palate. Love it.

O - This is a really well done BA stout. The additions of whiskey and vanilla beans are incredibly balanced. The huge 11.5 ABV is pretty well masked if you drink carefully enough. As per usual, the aroma and taste become even more prevalent as the beer warms. Well done!

Not bad but not up to par with PB and BB. A bit thin and a bit astringent. Not as big a mouthfeel as the others. Vanilla which usually wins me over in these stouts misses the mark jus a bit in this one. Don't think it was infected but just seemed off a bit.

The worst craft offering I've ever had. Bmc stuff is bland this was just bad. Worst nose on any beer I've ever had, tasted medicinal more than anything. Really a drain pour of a beer with no redeeming values. Mediocre would be a huge leap. Vanilla? Where?

Pours a very dark black, with a quickly receding half inch head, that leaves a film on top of the beer. Only a little bit of lacing.

Smells strongly of vanilla, and additionally, roasted malt, oak, and strong whiskey flavors.

The flavor has an odd and lingering bitterness that I didn't expect. It's a bit woody and roasty at the same time, and dominates the beer when it's cold. As it warms, the vanilla flavor comes more to the forefront. It becomes more smooth, with some chocolate, and lots of roasted malt. There's a bit of boozy burn, understandable given the 11.5% ABV.

Medium bodied, could be a little thicker. Creamy, thick, smooth mouthfeel. Low carbonation.

The woody bitterness and the alcohol burn keep this one from being great, but it's still a very good BA stout.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A - Pours a pitch black motor oil with 2 fingers of dark brown / chocolate head.

S - I get tons of vanilla instantly in the smell, along with some chocolate and caramel sweetness.

T - The taste is much like the aroma, with sweet vanilla at the forefront followed by sweet chocolate and caramel. The flavor is reminiscent of creme brulee. I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of vanilla flavor; it's not subtle at all.

M - Thick and viscous, low-to-moderate carbonation. The alcohol is hidden very well.

O - Possibly my favorite Prairie beer. This is perfect for dessert, as the vanilla notes are absolutely fantastic.

Silver wax capped 12oz bottle from BeerMeDuffMan (thanks man!). No bottle/batch date but I believe this was a late 2013 release. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.

It may be worth mentioning that there was a significant amount of rust on the cap and I fear it was also brown rust sediment that I wiped from the mouth of the bottle. Pours plack with a finger and a half dark khaki head that fades pretty quickly. Almost no lace.

Overall a good aroma. Vanilla, slight oak barrel, roast and a faint "offness".

Flavors seem inconsistent. They come in waves, not all of them positive. Bitter burnt roast, slightly off barrel funk, vanilla bean, cocoa, semi sour dark fruit, charred coffee grounds and a little alcohol. I never detected any flavors that I would call whiskey. Admittedly there is very little perceivable booze and an authentic, pleasing vanilla but the lack of whiskey character, near over-bearing bitterness of the burnt roast and (worst of all) the notes of sour barrel funk keep this from coming close to what I think it could/should be.

Chalky, medium full feel with mild carbonation. Bitter, slight funk and mild vanilla aftertaste.

While I applaud the authentic vanilla flavor, which is what I was most looking forward to, this was a fail. No hint of whisky, overly bitter and an unfortunate semi sour funk that really detracted fromy enjoyment. A missed opportunity by Prairie and a real shame.

A: Pours black with a solid 1" tan head which fades slowly and leaves a few spots of lace.

N: Whiskey, vanilla, roast, oaky.

T: Boozy, oaky, roasty, whiskey with vanilla. Slightly sweet.

M: Full body and medium carbonation. Rich, roasty, vanilla and whiskey soaked finish.

O: If you like your whiskey a little bit sweet with vanilla, then this is for you. Not for me.

Finally got around to opening one of these up. No sign of infection or rust on the inner cap. Only aroma from the bottle is vanilla.

A - Pours opaque black, as expected. A thin tan head that recedes fairly quickly. Pure darkness.

S - Mostly vanilla with a hint of oak barrel (no bourbon) and a touch of roastiness.

T - Vanilla leads the way on this one. Finishes with a little bit of roasted flavor and oak. Nice, but nothing compared to their other offerings. Small amount of bitterness on the side of the tongue.

M - Thinner than expected considering the style. I would put it at medium. I am surprised by the carbonation that finishes and the heat in the throat.

O - A solid offering but I will always take Coffee Noir or Bomb! over this.

A- Pours midnight black, viscous, with a nice sized tan head that leaves tons of sticky lacing as it slowly recedes.

S- Very sweet and chocolaty. Rich vanilla and caramel malts. A moderate amount of roast backs this up and keeps it from being overly sweet. Some fig, oaky tannins, smooth bourbon, and a hint of tartness. This is art!

T- The vanilla and dark chocolate are present, but significantly diminished from the nose. The situation is the same with the roast. There's a strange off taste that I can't quite place. Slightly tart, vinous, and metallic. It's not terrible by any means, but something is definitely off.

M- The mouth feel is a bit thin for the style. Drying, and decently carbonated.

O- Something must have gone wrong in bottling. I've read other reviews noting the same things, and that it's amazing on draft. Too bad because the appearance and aroma were amazing!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a wide mouth pint glass with a dark black/brown color and a 1/4 inch head. Smelled primarily of vanilla with a hint of bourbon. The taste was similar to the smell. Starts a little sweet with a very big vanilla flavor with some smokey flavor on the finish. It was very smooth despite the ABV. The bourbon was muted, but came through a bit more as it warmed. It was thick in the mouth, but not quite chewy. Overall this was an enjoyable beer, if not overly complex.

A: Pours opaque black with 1.5 fingers width of tan colored head which has good retention and leaves lots of lacing.

S: Coffee, milk chocolate, a nutty character, and lots of vanilla. Barrel notes are fairly subtle but are present with a whiskey booze aroma, and I also get some vinous dark fruit notes. Really like the big vanilla character here.

T: Chocolate, roasty, lots of vanilla. Barrel notes with oak and an almost harsh whiskey character. Some bitterness.

M/D: Full bodied, moderate carbonation, ABV well restrained but overall a bit harsh which limits drinkability.

O: Overall, not bad but a bit disappointing. Worth a try though.

A: Jet black with a dark khaki head that leaves quickly. No light through. Looks great!

S: It's odd, because I'm getting some acidity from the nose. Weird. Otherwise I get vanilla, coffee, and bourbon.

T: Wow, this is a lot different than I expected. I've had the regular Noir (awesome stuff), and this tastes way different. It has some kind of funk to it- like a sourness almost. Not necessarily bad, just odd. It may be the bourbon, which makes sense. On the side, vanilla comes through along with oak, cocoa, fudge, creme brulee, almond, coffee, raisins and cherries, and just a tiny touch of wet hops.

M: Thinner than expected. Medium and creamy. Not bad, but It'd be nice if it was a tad heavier. There's a bubbly feel to it.

O: Really caught me off guard. This isn't a bad brew, just not a world-class one. I'm guessing it's the bourbon barrels that took over a lot of the dark chocolate flavors. But there are nice things in there like fruits, vanilla, and cream. Enjoyed it.

Pours a dark brown with a thin foamy head. Not much lacing. Smells of leather. Chocolate and vanilla predominate the taste. As it warms, the whiskey really starts to come through and adds more complexity. Coats the tongue. This doesn't have the wow factor that something like Pirate Bomb did, but definitely a nice beer for a winter evening.

Split with rudzud.

Nice darker creamy darker colored head, inky dark colored beer.

Nose big sweet malts, candy, caramel and chocolate, ok vanilla but not a ton, nice cocoa though, decent creamy note.

Taste brings great vanilla, little sweet malt, toasty, little creamy choc and cocoa, little caramel like syrup,

Mouth med to heavier bod, nice carb, smooth, touch of warming booze.

Overall pretty nice.

INFECTION CITY. THIS ONE WAS A VANILLA BOMB WHEN I FIRST HAD IT BUT 3 month later metal,funky,highly carbonated in all it's glory INFECTION!!!

Bottle poured into a purple-logo Prairie bell tulip. Room temperature. Dark brown-black color, topped with a foamy tan head that receded to a thick ringlet, lacing the glass; some floaties in suspension, possibly vanilla "seeds"? After breathing for a while, there was a good amount of vanilla in the aroma, sweet, with undertones of roasty malts, and something vaguely herbal. The taste was kind of a let-down. Roasty malts up front, raw cocoa bitterness, vegetal, earthy, fusel alcohol, vanilla bean as a distant afterthought, somewhat drowned out by the roast, bitterness, and booze. Also a slight sour milk component that seemed to indicate it was on the way to infection. Regardless, it was way too bitter for a stout. Mouthfeel was boozy and somewhat thinned out, drying; body was medium. Overall okay, but nothing special.

Don't ask what I traded for this one...I should've known better.

Appearance - Dark Brown, not much of a head to speak of
Smell - Vanilla for sure, metal, brett, dark roasted malts, hint of bourbon
Taste - Metallic, funky, hint of vanilla
Mouthfeel - Thin for a stout but I don't mind that, medium carbonation
Overall - Had 2 bottles and once on tap and every time it smelled and tasted strongly of brettanomyces. I'm sure that was not intended and it really distracted me from trying to pin point any other flavors really. I hope they attempt this one again so that I might get to experience the brewers intended beer. Until then I can only rate based on my experience (x3).
