A: Pours with a visible viscosity. Not overly thick, but definitely showing a good bit of viscosity to it. Black in color. Full opaque. Forms a smallish espresso crema-cream type head that quickly recedes to just a ring around the edges. Very light lacing.
S: Aroma is potent and earthy. Chocolate and dried chile (ancho, pasilla) dominate with notes of sweet dark malts and dark fruits. Some very light vanilla notes.
T: Well, this is not a subtle beer. Starts of sweet. Chocolate and vanilla. Brownie. Then turns earthy. Dried chile, ancho, dark coffee, raisin, and earth. The beer does offer up a touch of spice on the back end that becomes more prevalent as it warms. Earthy chile on the back end.
M: Full bodied, sweet and viscous. Mild chile spice. Unfortunately, as is the case with many dried chile beers, there is a rather "dirty" quality to the beer.
O: Well, this is a very nice beer indeed. Complex and in your face. Much better than my own personal experience with Bomb.

Pours very little tan head. Color is a dark caramel brown.
Flavor profile: Rich dark chocolate. Caramel malts. Molasses and raisins. Dark fruits. Some oak and bourbon flavors. The chili peppers are kind of muted here. The vanilla does show, however. Tons of roasted and burnt alts.
Mouthfeel: Roasted/burnt. Full bodied. Low to medium carbonation. Ends dry.
Overall, I wasn't that impressed with this one. It was too burnt for me. Barrel flavors didn't show very much either.
