Notes/Commercial Description:
Prairie Hop is our hop driven saison. This beer is packed with Simcoe and Citra hops. Notes of peach, mango, and tangerine can be found in the flavor and aroma of this beer. The beer finishes dry which helps the hops jump out of the glass flavor wise.

We crack a bottle, pouring into our oversized tasting snifters. It shows a dusky antique golden coloring, holding a one and a half finger tall head of creamy, fluid white bubbles. This is highly reproducible, and shows nice retention, leaving ridged, corded lacing around our glasses circumferentially. A thick haze permeates clarity, while dense aggregates of sediment float to the bottom of the swill. Carbonation appears to be moderate. Wafting past the olfactory receptors is an airy, flowery blend of musky pale and wheaty maltiness, molded barley and hay, gentle smoky plastics, white pepper spice, dried honeycomb, wax, herbal and perfumed floral hops, green grassy resins, sweet bubblegum esters, dripping juicy fruitiness of mango and pineapple, mild barnyard funk, and orange balm bitters. The following taste is much lighter than expected, but packed with flavoring. Notes include thick and souring toasted and raw damp hay, bright green grassy and herbal hoppiness, dried mango and pomegranate fruitiness, under ripe plantains, urea, bitter citric peel, yeasty metallics, dusty pale maltiness, bitter cucumber skins, old paperback book spine, pencil lead, bitter currant and gooseberry, bubblegum esters, sea salt and seaweed, white flour, and distant cloven phenols. The body is on the lightest edge of medium, and carbonation is solidly medium. Each sip gives hearty slurp, smack, cream, froth and glug, however, and the finish is drying and clean. The mouth is thus left with a cooling and dripping wet coating that makes way for a high and tight chalky astringency. The abv is appropriate, and drinkability remains high throughout.

Overall, we’ve been very excited to try our first brew from Prairie, and our first brew from Oklahoma!! This one certainly fits the bill, and doesn’t disappoint. It is a nice and dank saison, overdone with a thorough dry hopping. This allows for the hops to become part of the equation, without overwhelming it. Said hops are subtle but add a definite bitterness to the taste that continually enhances and deepens with warmth. Every component here is really well defined. The finish is crisp, clean, and intensely drying, and is probably the most enjoyable and memorable aspect of this beer. They really hit that stylistic point right on the head. There has been a big outflowing of these hop-driven saisons lately, and the cultural shift is nearly palpable. This is no doubt a product of that revolution, and it is welcomed with open arms. We can’t wait to see what else Prairie has in their arsenal.
