Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: StaveHooks on 12-22-2012

Prairie Hop is our hop driven saison. This beer is packed with Simcoe and Citra hops. Notes of peach, mango, and tangerine can be found in the flavor and aroma of this beer. The beer finishes dry which helps the hops jump out of the glass flavor wise.

Appearance- Light orange color, very hazy, and a soapy white head.

Aroma- Pungent hop aroma of mangos and citrus with a little bit funky yeast in the background.

Taste- The flavor is dominated by tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, citrus, and tangerine. Malt presence is very minimal with maybe a slight cracker/bread malt balancing out the finish. Very mild when it comes to the saison characteristics, so much so that I forgot I was drinking a saison at times. However, there is definitely some funky yeast and the finish is dry.

Mouthfeel- Possibly the best aspect of this beer. First thing of note is the huge hop flavor and literally no bitterness to be found. This leads to the second note that this is incredibly smooth and soft, which lends to an amazingly easy to drink beer. I'd even say its a bit juicy as well, in the front at least. And at 8% there is no alcohol to be found whatsoever.

Overall- This definitely varies from the traditional saison, but that takes nothing away from this being an amazing beer. Huge tropical hop flavors with a soft/juicy mouthfeel that could make me drink this all day. (93/100)

Bought in the pint bottle, served slightly chilled in a mug that was probably not meant to host a saison. Oh well.

Appearance: Huge head. Four fingers. From the top kind of looks like a marshmallow that's been on a campfire too long (without the burn), but it's a lovely color similar to cantaloupe. Hazy with heavy carbonation.

Smell: Very aromatic, could smell very clearly while I was pouring. Slightly sour smell, only a hint of hops. Floral and fruity.

Taste: Surprisingly not nearly as strong as the smell. Has the typical funk on the finish, but otherwise only a faint tartness on the middle of the tongue. Pleasant.

Mouthfeel: Thinner than expected, but the carbonation is less heavy than it appears, which is a pleasant surprise.

Overall: Pleasant if not quite the flavor bomb I was expecting. A decent representation of the style. Perhaps an entry level representation, but I don't claim to know much of this particular style.

White head with some lace left. Color is a hazy golden orange.

Flavor profile: very fruity and hoppy. Clementines, tangerines, and oranges. Floral and pine hops. Kind of herbal. Belgian yeast with some dryness. It has grape like flavors with some tannins. A light amount of barnyard funk.

Mouthfeel: smooth with a slight bitterness. Kind of funky. Lighter bodied. Nice carbonation. Ends a little dry.

Overall, a really solid saison. I loved how fruity and hoppy this one was. Very drinkable!

Pours a hazy gold with a bubbly white head. Huge aroma of tropical fruits, yeast and piney hops. Easily one of the best aromas I've come across. Tangerine, pineapple and mango stand out. There's a touch of spice, and the hops give it a decent bitterness. Medium mouth with a carbonated crispness. The other dry-hopped saisons I've tried were middling, at best. This one is juicy and flavorful.

Pours a bright golden orange with a shimmering off-white head. Sour grapefruit goodness to the nose. Orange and lemon zest with a little sugar and spice and other light, ripe fruits too. Tastes of lemon, Belgian yeast and grain with a fine hop finish. Dry as can be and a little crackery in the end. So fine. So fine.
