750ml C&C bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.

A - Pours a thick looking caramel tinted near black color with a thin cap of foamy brown head that falls to leave a collar and hardly any lacing at all.

S - Surprisingly mild aroma. Definitely picking up the rum barrel, sweet, sugary, caramelly with some vanilla and some booze. The base stout comes thru with a fair amount of roast, a bit of charcoal, some licorice.

T - Dry, bitter roast, charcoal, licorice, some alcohol, mild rum component with some sweetness, booze, caramel. Much more of the base stout comes thru in the flavor than aroma - lots of roastiness and char. Also, a bit of a cool, herbalness as well that I can't quite identify.

M - A bit on the thin side for an imperial stout, a touch watery, lower level carbonation...just shows a hint of life on the tongue, tingly booze warmth on the lips and the back of the throat - noticeable in a pleasant way.

O - Overall, nice BA imperial stout. Rum barrel is a nice change of pace - showed its influence especially in the aroma but lost a bit of intensity in the flavor. Flavor influence is very subtle. Mix of roast, booze, some berry-like sweetness as it warms, herbalness, and some charcoal. Body is a little on the weak side which takes away a bit from the overall experience.

Shared large bottle. Poured very dark and opaque but with red-toned edges.

Feel: Very full thick feel with low but adequate carbonation. Alcohol burn reduces the rating.

Flavor: Tastes very rich with moderate complexity. Prudently restrained rum barrel effects.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black. Small khaki head. Some surface wisps.

Smell - Black patent malt is strong. Minimal sweetness. I don't get much rum barrel at all, if any. Very slight fruit.

Taste - The fruit is a little more prevalent. Oak is present. Extremely roasty. Slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel - Harsh bitterness. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Where's the rum barrel? C'mon now.

750 ml bottle opens with a light pop.

Pours ebony with a thumb of brown head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Plums, vanilla, molasess & general rum notes

T: Follows the nose, a bit of carob, cola & leafy hops up front, plus oakyness. Chocolate, charcoal & vanilla all surface as this warms, along with a whisper of boozeyness, some oaky dryness, some plum as well. Finishes dry, oaky, with dark fruit & molasses & restrained boozeyness

MF: Chewy, slight carbonation & warming, thins out a touch as this warms

This drinks great, the rum aspects of this are subtle but enjoyable. The ABV is well hidden, wished it had a bit more carbonation. I prefer Prairie Noir to this but only by a little bit

Appearance: black, brown near finger of head. No lace.

Aroma: rum, booze, oak, chocolate , roast.

Taste: chocolate fudge, roast, char, oak, rum, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: thick, full bodied, svelt carbonation .

Overall: I think this edges out the regular Noir because it has more barrel strength.
