Appearance- Black in color. Pours a one finger tall head that is tan in color.

Aroma- The rum barrel is big in the aroma with notes of molasses and vanilla. Chocolate and mild roasty malts are present too.

Taste- Once again the rum is very present in the flavor adding a bit of boozy heat and sweetness along with vanilla and molasses. The base stout adds milk chocolate, dark fruits, and just enough roasted malt bitterness to add some balance to this sweet stout.

Feel- Medium/full bodied, low carbonation, and a decent amount of residual malt lingering in the finish. The barrel kind of thins out the beer at first, but then the base stout kicks in in the finish and provides enough malt to give this a full, and somewhat chewy texture.

Overall- Awesome barrel aged stout verging on world class status in my book. The rum barrel is clearly present and adds great flavors that meld well with the base stout. No major flaws in this beer, but the only knock would be the mild amount of thinning at the beginning of the sip. Personally this is a couple notches above pirate bomb for the simple facts of 1) taste 2)barrel presence. No way this beer should be scored in the 80's, Prairie must have amped this up since the last release. (1,246 characters)

Shared large bottle. Poured very dark and opaque but with red-toned edges.

Feel: Very full thick feel with low but adequate carbonation. Alcohol burn reduces the rating.

Flavor: Tastes very rich with moderate complexity. Prudently restrained rum barrel effects. (265 characters)

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black. Small khaki head. Some surface wisps.

Smell - Black patent malt is strong. Minimal sweetness. I don't get much rum barrel at all, if any. Very slight fruit.

Taste - The fruit is a little more prevalent. Oak is present. Extremely roasty. Slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel - Harsh bitterness. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Where's the rum barrel? C'mon now. (410 characters)

750 ml bottle opens with a light pop.

Pours ebony with a thumb of brown head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Plums, vanilla, molasess & general rum notes

T: Follows the nose, a bit of carob, cola & leafy hops up front, plus oakyness. Chocolate, charcoal & vanilla all surface as this warms, along with a whisper of boozeyness, some oaky dryness, some plum as well. Finishes dry, oaky, with dark fruit & molasses & restrained boozeyness

MF: Chewy, slight carbonation & warming, thins out a touch as this warms

This drinks great, the rum aspects of this are subtle but enjoyable. The ABV is well hidden, wished it had a bit more carbonation. I prefer Prairie Noir to this but only by a little bit (713 characters)

Appearance: black, brown near finger of head. No lace.

Aroma: rum, booze, oak, chocolate , roast.

Taste: chocolate fudge, roast, char, oak, rum, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: thick, full bodied, svelt carbonation .

Overall: I think this edges out the regular Noir because it has more barrel strength. (294 characters)
