Glass Used: Teku

Appearance: This beauty poured an ink black that returned a thick cascading tan head. Lacing was abundant. A fantastic and inviting stout.

Smell: Wow. Big roasted coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, chocolate syrup and waifs of vanilla fill the nose. The latter becomes more fragrant over time.

Taste: Coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla are in full force at the front and middle. The finish provides the depth of the dried roasted chili. While subtle, the chili flavor is there and balanced very well. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and velvety. This alone keeps the glass near you at all times.

Overall: A family member tasted this and asked the ABV. As I reached for the bottle I answered 9%. I was a bit surprised to see it was 13%. This stout easily drinks like a 9%. The flavors are are so damn seductive and inciting. I didn't want this beer to end. This is a must try.

Poured from an unwaxed bottle into my plain snifter.

A- This dark concoction comes out nearly as thick as syrup into the glass. The color of the liquid is black as night with no light escaping it's grasp. A fairly sizable head for the style forms and retains pretty well, with an acceptable amount of lacing.

S- First scent that smack you in the nostrils right off the bat is slightly stale, yet potent coffee. Coffee flavor is dark and slightly bitter and dominates the front end of the scent. After the coffee fades away just a little, burnt dark malts come in and provide a little more darkness. Not a whole lot of vanilla in there, but it is slightly detectable under the dark malts with a little sweetness, but not as much as the cocoa nibs and peppers are. Chocolate and pepper flavors are subdued in comparison to the coffee that was right up front and bring the scent full circle by tying it all back to the coffee.

T- This beer starts off with a big bang of coffee up front, just like the smell. Coffee in the flavor is not quite as dark as in the scent, but a little more stale and bitter. Burnt malts kick in right away after the coffee, also like in the scent, but much stronger, enhancing the bitterness. The burnt malt is the primary flavor throughout the rest of the drink, but a hint of vanilla and pepper creep in towards the end. There is not- much chocolate flavor, if any, to be found in the taste of this beer, but the pepper does linger on the tongue just a little while after the drink.

M- Thick and dark and creamy, this fits perfectly into the feel for the style. One thing that really stands out in this beer's feel is the complete lack of alcohol burn or heat. It literally has zero, making it very dangerously drinkable for a 13% ABV beer.

Overall, this is a very good imperial stout. Aside from the small traces of peppery spice in the scent and taste, this reminds me a lot of KBS.

This was a suprising beer. Pours and smells like any decent stout, nothing off the wall but solid appearance and a hint of coffee.
The taste however, is another story. It´s a big mix of coffee bean, vanilla and a charred ash kind of flavour that is right on the line of "do i like it/hate it....but in the end love it"
I didn´t notice any chilli or heat until it warmed up a little and even then it´s very mild.
Great beer, happy to have ticked it but it goes straight back on my wants list again now.
