Serving Type: 12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed pilsner (beer tulip) glass.

Appearance: Very dark brown, nearly black. Dense head of fine, light brown bubbles; moderate lace.

Smell: Berries and roasted coffee - smells like desert. Aroma sweetens as it warms.

Taste: Opens with bright, tart raspberries giving way to chocolate sweetness and dark roasted coffee bitterness. Sour berries linger in the aftertaste. No hint of its 10% ABV. A little oak tannin comes through as it warms.

Mouthfeel: Medium body; not nearly as full as the color might suggest. Well carbonated, nicely matching the tartness.

Overall: A surprisingly light bodied and tart stout, almost as though cut with a framboise. A distinct flavor combination I definitely enjoyed, but may not be for everyone. An interesting contrast to more abundant bourbon barrel stouts.

Notes: 2014 release.

12oz bottle into a snifter

Thanks to Narthax for sending this over via trade.

A: Opaque black, just over 1 fingers width of mocha colored head, pretty good retention before dissipating down to a thin film that remains throughout the drink. Leaves a small amount of lacing.

S: Lots of tart vinous dark fruits, roasted malt, cream, some tannic fruity red wine aromas, subtle oak, faint coconut. At first, I was like meh, but this really grows on me the more time I spend with it.

T: Really tart, which surprised me. Somewhat sour dark fruits, lots of vinous red wine notes. Roasted malt, herbaceous oak, and coffee on the finish.

M/D: Medium bodied, could be thicker and carbonation is on the higher end, fairly smooth though, and fuller than I remember the other Noir's being. ABV is well restrained, and drinkability is good.

O: Interesting, and my favorite of the Noirs. I found the other Noirs and Bomb to all be pretty disappointing (Bible Belt was fantastic though). In this one, the barrel presence was strongest, and although a big unique I found it to be quite enjoyable.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Appearance- Black with a slight red hue, and a thick, foamy mocha head produced.

Aroma- Kind of mixed with nothing clear coming through. Some wine and sweet chocolate notes mainly.

Taste- Big on the red wine from start to finish. Very slight booziness. Some roasted coffee notes become apparent through the middle, followed by some milk chocolate at the end.

Feel- Smooth and creamy feel, with slight lingering malt presence.

Overall- This is huge on the red wine, but I love it. It works for me with just enough imperial stout flavors to round this out. If you like red wine check this is out for sure, but its worth the try for any imperial stout lover.
