The appearance is nice with decent lacing on the glass. The foam on the head is very exaggerated. The beer pours a nice transparent orange hue. The nose is all malt and butter (diacetyl). The taste follows. It has some undertones of the hop bitterness but the flavor is dominated by heavy and buttery caramel malts. It's just not a very good beer. The mouthfeel is fine but not great. I keep rooting for Heathen in a city with really mediocre brewers but I can't recommend this one. It doesn't deliver. (502 characters)

Pleasantly sparkly on the tongue. Dark amber in the tumbler with plenty of foam. Aroma of honeysuckle and pine.

The spiciness is really inviting. A little woody but biscuity and grainy to mellow out. Just sharp enough with a malty undertone. Moderate bitterness with some sweetness at the finish, makes a good combination.

Quite drinkable and zingy big-hop brew. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at 99 Beers in Federal Way.
