Stopped in here a few weeks after their grand opening to give a new local brewery a shot. It's a smallish place located in what seems like a quiet part of Grayslake (I'll admit my experience with the town is severely limited, though) on the ground floor of an apartment building. Inside, the bar area is lined with hockey paraphernalia, from local schools' teams to classic NHL throwbacks. A handful of flat screens sit in corners, waiting to blare some rink action (or, in the case of my visit, the exploits of the gridiron). Honestly, it all kinda feels like a brighter, more professionally-done version of a major hockey fan's basement den, complete with walnut bar. I bellied-up to said bar and ran the place's gamut of offerings. The beer selection is generally what you'd expect from a new brewery, nothing wild and crazy, but things are still generally well done. The staff all seem like genuinely nice and amiable folk and were more than willing to talk about the beer and the game that the Bears were trying hard to lose. Being somewhat early on in both the day and the brewery's existence, the place was fairly quiet and empty, but I've seen pictures of how crowded they can get (and with the NHL back in session, I imagine it happens a bit more often). Icing on the cake: the staff shared some salsa and tortilla chips they had bought. It's the little things, people. Overall, this is a nice place to visit, grab a pint, and enjoy a game or something. While the beers are still on the safe side, I'm interested to see where they go with their recipes in the future. I'm definitely going back whenever I can to see how they're coming along.
