On tap at Moon Tower Inn.

A: Pours a dark brown color. A two finger white head forms, and recedes. Light lace is left behind.
S: Toasted malts, light grains, some caramel sweetness, and a nutty finish. Not bad at all.
T: Follows the nose with toasted malts, bread and biscuit, grains. Some sweetness and a distinct nutty flavor. Simple but enjoyable.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Fairly smooth and soft. A nice beer to drink. I finished the pint, and quaffing a few if no other options are available.

I do enjoy this. No frills, and easy to drink. Just not a lot going on for me to come back to often if there are other options. Still it went good with my dog from Moon Tower.

A: medium to dark brown, quite cloudy. Poured into a pint tumbler with one finger head that quickly dissipated.

S: roasty with a slight hop aroma. No sweetness to the nose.

T: I haven't had an English brown ale for some time, but the Americanized version is expectedly drier with a very slight hint of hops. That's the case here. The primary flavor that hits you is the dark malt, similar to a porter, but lighter up front.

M: it's summer, and I've switched over to Kolsch, Hefe, & IPA. However, this brew has a somewhat lighter mouthfeel and is quite drinkable on a hot summer day. Carbonation is on the low side, but the cloudyness gives it an interesting and pleasant mouthfeel. It has a pretty dry finish that hangs around for a while.

O: I'm impressed with Gentleman's Relish. It's a good drinking beer, regardless of the season. I couldn't find much wrong with it. This would probably pair well with brisket or other smoked meat. My only suggestion would be to take the ABV up a little over 7.

on tap at 3rd Floor in midtown Houston

L: black ... or almost; just a hint of brown; nice solid tan head with some stick

S: piney hops on top of malt; super sweet

T: hoppy sweet; darker than typical brown ale but with the same nutty flavor and malty sweet finish; there's plenty of hops up front; burnt finish at times

F: good carbonation but nothing exceptional

O: a cool, Americanized version of the English style with a lot of hop bite; what makes it work for me is the fact that it's malt backbone helps it remain true to the English version ... lots of malt sweetness. a very interesting brew and one I wouldn't mind trying again.
