Formerly Pioneer Yellow Rose until it was made year-round.

A SMaSH, Single Malt and Single Hop, IPA using a caboodle (technical term for a large amount of malt) of malt and a new hop released in 2012 called Mosaic (HBC 369). It is a daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14), one of our favorite hops. Whole cone Mosaic is used for bittering, flavoring, and aroma in the kettle; it is also massively dry hopped. The beer is named after a Texas Heroine.

Tasting notes: chalk-white head with a very clean malt backbone. The hops impart strong grapefruit, pineapple, and blueberry flavor and aroma. A strong beer that is extremely quaffable.

Pours a cloudy golden color with a pure white head. Has a nice citrusy pine aroma. Flavor is a little softer than the aroma. Citrus, lemon a touch of pine. Very smooth finish with a touch of bitterness. A really delicious ipa

Appearance: Hazy yellow glass holds a white halo and thin cover that lasts and laces a bit.

Aroma: Fruity, tropical and citric with a hint of malty base giving a light candy note.

Taste: Bright and citric hops really shine in a clean simple base, very West Coast which is to my preference.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, sudsy texture.

Overall: Nice display of yummy hops with enough base to keep it from being acidic but not so much as to make the package heavy and chewy. Seems like they are using good ingredients and staying out of the way, cheers to The Lone Pint Brewery; make more, so much more.

Good little ipa here. Clean tropical flavors, papaya, mango and some orange jest. Getting an almost pilsner aftertaste. Finishes semi dry Not the most flavorful ipa out there, but it's extremely well balanced.

750ml bottle poured into a snifter tasting glass.

A= Pale straw color, hazy, creamy white head, thin, settles to ring to glass. Lacing is clingy.

S= Grapefruit, citrus juice, rind, zest.

T= Flavor is similar to the aroma, but with a bit more tropical notes including mango/papaya. Bit of easy going bitterness holds it together.

M= Medium body with a bit of syrupy feel with low side of moderate carbonation.

O= Great, smooth, balanced, easy going IPA. Nothing negative, bitterness is clean and suits the level of hop flavor perfectly.

Thanks to Jakehoodlum for a bottle of this long-time want (OK, two bottles), as I’m always up for some world-class hops. How many IPAs comes in 750ML glass? Split with my wife.

The pour is light orange, & holding it up to the TV, I can see no hint of Miguel Sano’s lovely swing through the liquid. The nose is grapefruit to the nth degree, infiltrating everything nasal & really making me look forward to the taste.

Every (Yellow) Rose has it’s thorn…right? This one could charge admission as an Aruba cruise. Bursting with tropical flavor, with big grapefruit, papaya, citrus, & other assorted before the taste charges into a moderate bitterness. The other side of the slide brings an odd grain character, light dankness, & finishes with a honey-like sweetness from the malts. Very smooth & easy to sip while the Twins spank the White Sox.

Very good beer? Absolutely. Top 250 beer? No way. Me complain? Heck no. This is an easy drinker with a lovely fruit punch. Best IPA I’ve had today.

The best beer in Texas. Very near the flavor profile of more northern stalwarts like Zombie Dust. Excellent malt and hop balance keeps the bitterness in check and the finish clean without lingering. Citrus flavor is strong mid palate and remains noticeable through the experience. I must say I am a big fan, especially when found on draught.

Undated bottle at 42 degrees into snifter
Aroma of grapefruit, weakens throughout the drink
Head average (three cm, aggressive pour), off white, frothy, diminishing to eight mm ring and irregular layer
Lacing good – partial curtains of tiny to small bubbles
Body light yellow, chill haze
Flavor weak citrus fruit, slight malt; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate light to medium, watery, soft carbonation

Thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Light fizzy bubbly head, little fluffy 1 finger, fades semi quickly light lacing, murky pale yellow pear color.

Nose nice dank tropical fruit, mild resin, mango papaya, big time pineapple and mango, great tropical and some citrus, juicy fruit, little tangerine, orange, faint malt. Little earthy resin grassy thing late.

Taste starts with a mild creamy malt, little chewy lush malt profile. Then hops, nice tropical again, papaya mango, pineapple, nice juicy papaya mango, little guava, dank resin notes, little citrus creamy orange tangerine, grapefruit pith, touch of rind bitterness. Little earthy grassy almost spicy piney hop way in the back. Finish brings tons of orange cream tangerine and grapefruit pith, little rind and just a touch spicy earthy, mild bitterness.

Mouth is med bod, nice creamy lush oat or wheat like fluffy feel, nice carb fluffed in there.

Overall this surprised me, much better than I expected, great tropical and citrus, very little of the earthy grassy part.

Great solid IPA. Almost reminds me more of a IIPA with it's thickness and amount of hops. One of the most bitter examples of mosaic hopped beers I've tried with a solid malt backing it up. Unique and delicious.

From 750ml bottle received via trade. Pours slightly hazy gold with a big white head that leaves minimal lacing. Aroma is a beautiful meld of tropical fruit (grapefruit mostly) and hops. Taste is hop forward with lemon, grapefruit and maybe a hint of honey. Nicely carbonated, creamy mouthfeel. A fantastic take on the IPA.

If only this fantastic beer found its way out of Texas more often...

Have trade for Yellow Rose multiple times, and every one of those, it's a winner. Hazy yellow and a sizable head upon pouring, it possesses an incredibly balanced floral aroma that's far from overpowering. Taste-wise, you're getting a light mix of citrus notes, plus a piney finish too. Mouthfeel is not too bitter, but rather, smooth and mild. Great stuff.

Received in a trade. Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice hazy golden hue with a fat one finger head that fades to leave thin wisps and a light halo.

S - Aromas of big tropical notes, pineapple and mango with nice papaya. Good grapefruit, oranges, nice lightly spicy earthy pine on the finish too.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, loads of tropical fruits, tons of pineapple and mango, earthy spicy notes that fade over time. The oranges are great, creamy with very faint bitterness. Really good tropical notes that typically aren't found in most mosaic based ipas. Woah.

M - Mouthfeel is really nicely carbonated, creamy, fluffy.

O - Overall this beer was really nice. Loads of tropical notes, tons of pineapple. Doesn't have the usual crazy pine first notes mosaic tends to have. A delicious beer.

A very tasty IPA with a good malt backbone and some fine hops both on the nose and in the taste. This is the best SMaSH beer that I have had and reminds me of the Midwest style of good hops but a really solid malt backbone

I had this on tap again and once again, had to take home a growler full. It's an amazing IPA, it smells great, tastes great and is very easy on the palate. It has a nice, light yellow color with just a hint of white head. No lacing but no problem as the taste and smell is great. Although I typically like my IPAs really bitter, I don't mind at all that this is a little mellower than most. It doesn't matter because it tastes great.

This one blew me away the first time I had it on tap, at Nobi Public House in Webster, Texas. The smell is magical and the taste is full of surprises, the after taste seems to change with each sip as well. I have found the bottles to be just as good and buy at least 1 whenever I see it, at $9 a bottle it is something to savor. I don't care for the murky color and high amount of sediment in the appearance, but i detect none in the mouth feel. Very smooth and versatile SMaSH IPA, fruity and hoppy. Nectar of the gods. Good thing my son dislikes IPA's, this one is all mine.

This is a nice IPA, but single hop mosiac hoppy beers are just not my thing. Mild bitterness. Pretty drinkable IPA that has a nice mouthfeel. I also feel that the hype train might have some influence here on scores.

Pours a lot darker than expected. Smell is strong with a floral aroma, not very strong on the hop smell. Taste and feel is very pleasant with a very dry finish. Notes of pineapple, fruits, and pine. This beer is a treat to say the least. I am honored to say that I have tried this beer.

Most overrated beer in the top 250. Don't understand why people all seek this out. Nose is grass and grain. hop bitterness and juiciness is lower than your average pale ale from any old brewery. finish is average. There just isn't really anything going on here. Maybe I got an old bottle shipped to me?

750, light yellow. Slightly hoppy, low bitterness. Lotus of greens, Grassy, weedy, underbrush. Under-hopped for the amount of malt in my opinion. Like it was an IPA hopped in APA territory. Not seeing what the fuss is about.

I love single hopped beers, it really makes the hop used shine. Yellow Rose perfectly displays the Mosaic hop in all it's glory. It pours with a yellow unfiltered hazy color with a strong 2 finger head. Smells of grapefruit with a small hint of lemon. The taste is incredible, hop forward with hints of grapefruit and lemon, finishes very clean with no lingering bitterness but just a touch of sweetness. A very delicious beer, will definitely be seeking this out again.

Very smooth tasting beer that could be consumed again and again. I got a light citrusy aroma, nothing too strong. I got a little bell peppery finish as well- Not overpowering in the least. This is a great IPA.

A great single hop brew. Looked hazy and delicious..great mosaic hop smell with medium body and sweetness.. Had TG Pompeii the day before and found Pompeii to be superior. But overall I love mosaic hops and this beer is excellent.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
LOOK: Pours with a glorious 4 finger's worth of white foam that dissipates into half a finger's worth after three minutes. What can I say? This is yellow in color. Not gold or straw yellow, just yellow. Cloudiness is moderate along with the rising bubbles. Lacing is thin, but high.
SMELL: FRUIT BOMB! Very strong aromas of pineapple, grapefruit, orange, pear, mango, peach, apricot, and papaya that entangle with mild aromas of sweet and bready pilsner malts.
TASTE: Incredibly strong and pure delicious fruit flavors come on very strong up front. Those awesome sweet and bready pilsner malt flavors enter strongly immediately after to balance out the fruit flavors coming from the hops. Alas, mild bitterness from hops finishes off this spectacular symphony as all other flavors push on.
FEEL: Medium-bodied with subtle carbonation. Goes down smooth, but not creamy (unfortunately). And of course, the finish is overly dry.
NOTE: Holy crud. What liquid gold have I just tasted? But on a serious note, as the beer warms, fruit flavors become less apparent and bitter hop flavors begin to quickly take their place.

Was lucky enough to get this in a trade. My usually go to is the New England IPAs so I wasn't sure how this would stack up. Pours a hazey yellow with a thick 1 inch head. Nice lacing as you drink it down. Aroma is grapefruit and pear. I get grapefruit at first and a bit of malt in the finish. Different but a really nice single hop, single malt beer.

Picked up a bottle at Whole foods and was disappointed to find it had skunked.
The everlasting memory will be the assorted fagbutt ashtray finish.
I might give it another go once I get the taste of peat out of my mouth...
