ISG is the granddaddy of our Rye Guy IPA. More grain! More hops! The result is an incredibly flavourful, yet balanced Imperial IPA. There is a big malt flavour up front which presents in the form of rich caramel and serves to balance the high bitterness of a beer weighing in at 90 IBUs. The result is a nice, lingering, spicy taste on the tongue. And at 9.1% ABV, this is definitely going to make you super!

Pours a deep red. No head at all, just a few precious bubbles floating to the top, forming a super thin film.

All pine on the nose with just the faintest caramel.

Again, pine is the star of the show. However, rye really makes its presence known here, much more than in their Rye Guy IPA. It imparts a really interesting spicy character to it like, well, Rye. The overall affect is almost a spruce beer kind of deal. Big evergreen hop taste with an earthy spice to it. Alcohol is really well integrated.

Not really a hop bomb actually, don't expect a massive bitterness. Malt is actually the big show here I think, at odds with their hop forward IPA. (661 characters)

Growler: Poured a clear amber color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of citrusy and bitter hops notes is enjoyable. Taste is mostly dominated by citrusy bitter and dry hops with some light spicy rye notes and some dry caramel malt also noticeable. Body is about average withy good carbonation. Enjoyable even though I was try to cut back on the bitter finale. (408 characters)

32 oz growler from the bottle shop. Opened with a pop after a month.

A deep golden amber colour with a slight hazy. Half an inch of light beige head consisting of bubbles of various
sizes. Good carbonation that lasted to the end. Thick lacing with very good retention.

A strong sharp citrus aroma. Grapefruit and lemon.

An intense hops taste. Citrus at first then more piney and fading into the taste of the rye. The rye base works very well
without being harsh. A sweet bread malt taste is present too. The bit of alcohol taste works well
with the rye. A long strong bitter grassy aftertaste.

Medium to heavy feel. Oily. It coats the mouth.

This is definitely imperial. Strong all round. (695 characters)

My favorite brew by far. The hopiness lights up your tongue, but the rye holds the bitterness back. High ABV is hidden by the very high IBU of this brew. This one is a sipper for sure. Pours a little hazy and has sort of a "grainy" mouthfeel to it. Some notes of pine/evergreen and citrus, but I find the pronounced flavours to be rye and hops. Mild carbonation with just a bit of head. Very flavourful brew that keeps me coming back to this gem of a brewery. (459 characters)

Appearance: It has a nice deep hazy golden/orange color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down very slowly and leaves lovely lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of citrus, pine resins, grassy hops, some rye and sweet caramelly malts.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some citrus, bitter pines resins, some grassy/earthy notes, rye and sweet caramelly malts.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas. I wish there was more aromatic hops present rather than this bitter hop bomb but there's nothing wrong with a bitter hop bomb either, that's just my opinion. It's still a good DIPA nevertheless. (748 characters)

ISG's got a great look to it. Golden clear with a little head. Smell is crisp - hoppy and piney with a touch of rye. Taste is very similar to the nose, crisp and hoppy with a little sweetness to take some of the edge off. Carbonation is a little low but probably by design. Overall, it's a little hoppy to my taste to have multiple of these in a sitting, but it's a great crisp beer for 1-2 for a 1-2 beer session, or to mix up a longer session. (445 characters)

Am enjoying this very solid DIPA that hides its 9.1% ABV scarily well thanks to mtomilins.

Pours a beautiful and clear amber that almost glows, with an impressive off-white head that results in much lacing. Aroma is malt -forward, caramel with a barrel background and highlighted by tropical fruit tones. The flavour has more hop presence with pine and citrus tones plus a delightful bitterness to the finish, however definitely malt-forward in the body. The barrel elements are not overwhelming and give it some smoky depth.

Awesome growler design and a well brewed beer from a brewery I'm ashamed never to have visited. Must get back to Ottawa! (649 characters)

Growler delivered by Brew Donkey. From notes.

A - Poured hazy dark golden with one finger of off white head. Mild carbonation, spotty lace, and a film of retention.

S - Citrus, mild malt, mild rye.

T - Citrus and stronger rye than the aroma.

M - Good bitterness with obvious rye in the finish. Mild carbonation and medium to full body.

O/D - This was OK. Definitely an amped up version of Rye Guy, but the rye was much stronger and didn't really allow the hops to shine as well as they could have. Decent enough, just not my cuppa. Definitely not a bad choice, all things considered. (590 characters)
