Bought this little 330ml bottle in Austria then brought it to Canada...

A - Typical golden-coloured body, with a pretty good white creamy head. I would say the head retention is good for a strong lager.

S - Smells grainy, with hints of bread and caramel. Slight hints of citrus and apple. Some grassy hops.

T - It was nice to get some interesting flavours out of this beer. It has a creamy malty backbone, with hints of caramel and apple pie. The Saaz hops show just a little, giving the beer a slight spiciness and some floral notes. Not very bitter; quite sweet and sugary.

M - A little bit disappointing overall. At first I was amazed by how soft, creamy and not boozy it was. Medium body, low carbonation, good drinkability. However, if you let it warm up, it will become a bit difficult to drink (but not more difficult than your average strong lager, so it's manageable). Your best bet is to either drink it fast or take small sips.

O - I was not expecting much from this beer, but it turned out to be quite nice. Easily, one of the most flavourful strong lagers from Europe.

Look: the beer pours a yellow color with a large white head
Smell: malts, saaz hops and orange peel
Taste: caramel, orange zest, honey and typical saaz hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Light body, with a nice tingling carbonation
Overall: Nice beer, a classic Czech beer. Watch and learn, US bud

Light amber & topped with a pinky sized, bubbly white head that disappears to leave a patchy, soapy lacing after about twenty seconds.

Very sweet & sugary on the nose initially, with some sweet malts sneaking in after this. There is a hint of grassy hops & a little grain.

Like the nose the taste is also very sweet but not in an overpowering sense & this manages to hide the alcohol content well. The hops are faint & hard to detect but the sweet malt favour isn't, nor is the sugar.

Medium mouthfeel & quite a bit of carbonation, the beer is smooth, crisp & a little dry right at the end. It also has a bit of a kick to it.

I simply enjoyed the beer for what it was, a good quality strong pilsener lager that I would happily purchase again.

Pours dark gold with a small head. Nose show the same grassy and spicy hops as the regular Budvar, but loads more rich malt. Similar flavours, but the hops don't show as much. Very malty, hints of golden syrup and brown sugar. Very sweet. Nice syrupy body and moderate carbonation.

I really didn't mind this. Simply put - a strong pils. That's what it is. Don't be surprised. A little less on the nose than I was hoping for but it wasn't unpleasant. Not as sweet as other high ABV lagers. Strong but palatable bitterness and a solid mouthfeel and finish. Pretty good.

Bottle at U Medvídků, Prague, Czech Republic

A: The beer poured clear golden yellow in color with a finger high bright white head. A slight amount of carbonation is visible.
S: The nose is very malty.
T: Like the smell, the taste is very malty and has a very slight amount of bitterness. There are also some hints of malty sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and somewhat viscous on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
D: The alcohol is well hidden from both the smell and the taste, although this is a beer that really needs to be drank slowly given its strength.

330ml bottle served in a pint jug.

A: Pours a clear yellow to orange golden color forming a big white and bubbled head. Medium retention and not much lacings left

S: Sweet on the nose. Sweet malts and Saaz grassy hops, basically

T: Despite of being a Lager, it reminded me a Belgium Ale, somehow which is weird. In any case, good tasting beer. Sweet upfront and a citrus bitter end. Alcohol is not much detected despite the reasonable ABV

M: Medium body and reasonable carbonation

O: Good drinkability. Recommended

Not so good. Poured with a large off white head that quickly fades to almost zero and no lace. Color is a clear amber with small bubble trails. Aroma is malty and skunky ( green glass and I even got it towards the back of the cooler away from the fluorescent light). Flavor is a weird bitterness dominated by sweetness. Body is full and round and the carbonation while a bit fizzy does help cut the sweetness. Finish is sweet and that weird bitterness. Not for me. Alcky beer I think.

I'm shocked that so many people gave this beer mediocre reviews. I found it to be really great.

A: More orangy than the original lager.

S: Malty, sweet and pleasant

T: Excellent, the extra alcohol is barely detectable, but it definitely pushes the flavor into a different category. It somehow reminds me of some Belgian beers.

M: Smooth, medium body, wonderful.

D: Excellent, fantastic. Not particularly heavy for the alcohol content.

A - Light gold in colour, with lots of visible carbonation and little head.
S - A bit like a pils, rather faint.
T - Very subtle flavour of malt. Not very alcoholic tasting. Slightly sweet in the aftertaste and ligers like an awkward person.
M - Strangely medium bodied and overcarbonated.
D - Hard to drink, rather to heavy. Should be lighter. Hides its alcohol well though.

Not the greatest beer in the world but I used to get this when I lived in Germany. Mainly because it was a good beer to use to get torn up.

Appearance- All in all it is not a bad looking beer. Highly bubbly Champaign gold looking body with a nice froth head and lace.

Smell- A bit of crisp spicy aroma with some alcohol.

Taste- It is a little bit bitter but it mainly sweet for a lager. There are some grassy tones but it has a real malty flavor.

Mouthfeel- It has a thicker mouth feel than most lagers and has strong fizz bite.

Drinkability- I is not to bad. I am not drinking it like I would in my youth but it is an average beer for the most part.

Good dark yellow body, but overendowed with carbonation. Head is coarse-bubbled but meringuey. Looks pretty good really.

Slightly peppery metallic nose, with hints of banana and brown sugar. It's very heavy going though, and although it's interesting at the start, it's pretty overpowering after a while.

Taste is also heavy, but there's still that brave little Czech hoppiness trying to struggle through the cloyingness. It's pretty much what I expected from a strong Budvar - heavy with syrup. It ends up being pretty harsh and medicinal though, and that ruins what would otherwise be a drinkable beer.

By the end, it's way too harsh and heavy, and it loses a great deal of its drinkability as a result.

Suprisingly, and slightly dissapointedly, not a particulary stellar offering from Budvar. While I'll advocaate Pivovar Budvar to the death versus it's rival, I'll say that this beer is a possible ploy towards moving it's drinkers towards a market inflated by strong beers and a declination in quality. It's still a decent beer, but not something I'd regularly drink, especially because of the inflated price versus it's other, arguably higher quality, offerings. I'll recommend a try, but if you're in the Czech Republic and looking for a stronger beer, try some others like Svijany Baron or some by Pivovar Nachod.

330 ml. green bottle.
Yellow and clear just like any pale lager. white head disappear quickly.
The aroma is not impressive at all, lager-like with some alcohol.
on the mouth is where you feel the added sugar that makes this one a 7% brew. though maltier than the average lager, this beer is not balanced and the residual sweetness makes it fell like a bad bock.
Body is heavier that a standard lager, and the mouthfeel is fine.
The alcohol effect is well noticed.
Try once just for the heck of it.

(330 ml bottle, fresh from Praha/Prague). Golden colour, moderate head. Initially weak aroma, some alcoholic sweet and flowery notes come along. Flavour is quite malty for a pale lager, rather alcoholic but not unpleasant, warming mouthfeel. Not too sweet. OKish, but not great.
