A crystal-clear yellow color, this beer had almost no head when poured and it disappeared immediately. I mean, I looked away for a second, looked back and it was gone! Not even a ring around the collar. A bit of foam reappears briefly with each sip from a very tiny bit of carbonation that is seen emanating from below. Regardless of the looks, for some reason it bubbles up in the mouth and has a decent fizz factor. This is a phenomenon I don't recall experiencing in any other brew. Could be a weird batch, even though the best-by date is 5.10.11. Label is different too, so there may need to be an update on this one.
At first crack, the aroma of skunk cabbage recalled from my camping childhood in the Michigan woods jumped out at me. Not the most pleasant odor, it was a little foreboding, but like the head, it just disappeared! Nose in the glass reveals typical Euro metallic mineral scents, with a smattering of light hops. Nothing pronounced though.
Flavor-wise, it's a Bud (big surprise - not)! Light cereal malts and a bit of bitterness at the end as a reminder that it does contain all the essential ingredients. Nothing to write home about, but easily quaffed if you are thirsty, and slightly better tasting than its American copycat (although not as visually appealing due to the lack of a head).
Good enough though for sloshing back a grilled cheese sandwich, a burger and fries, or any other plain-Jane repast.

Poured a big head. Settles and fades fairly quickly. Almost no lacing (there was a wee bit that disappeared when I topped up the glass). Initially the carbonation very strong with big bubbles, but this settles too after a bit, to a nice fine prickly feel.
Smell: yeast, malt, I dont get much else at the moment.
Taste is well balanced grain with a high note of hops. Nice little hop finish. Mild bitter lingers in aftertaste. All very easy and 'nice' but lacking in something: more bite or character - not so memorable for me - yet very drinkable...
There is something metallic there when it hits the roof of the mouth - dunno if that's from the can or not.
Edit// with the beer heading for fridge temp (above was more cellar temp), the hop character comes out a bit more initially - but that just leaves me more let down after as the finish doesnt match the promise.

11.2 oz beer was poured into a pilsner glass.
Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.
Smell: Bready and sweet Pilsner mats, grassy and spicy hops, and lager yeast.
Taste: A very tasty pilsner. Bready, sweet, grassy, spicy, and lager yeast. You can't really ask for much more.
Mouthfeel: Crisp, light, refreshing, a little chewy, some bitterness, and medium carbonation.
Overall: I remember this beer as Budvar when I was in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Bottle says Czechvar, but it is still the same beer. A very traditional pilsner beer.

Bottle from Lazy dog
Pours a crystal clear medium golden color with a smallish white head that quickly dissipates to a bubbly ring on top. Skunk hits my nose as soon as I wrangle the cap off the top of this and mostly dissipates as my beer opens up. Spicy floral hops and sweet bready grainy pilsner malt with a hint of rich melanoidin make up the bulk of the aroma. The flavor is sharp with spicy hop flavor, balanced by a honey like sweetness wrapped into a brown bread. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a slick bubbly mouthfeel. Once the mercaptan left I really enjoyed this lager!
