On-tap at U Medvídků, Prague, Czech Republic

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and poured with a two finger high bright white head. No carbonation is visible.
S: There is a light to moderate aroma of citrus--oranges stand out in particular.
T: The initial taste is rather malty and has some hints of sweetness; this is balanced by a milt amount of bitterness in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and crisp on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and is quite sessionable. I could drink these all day long.

A crystal-clear yellow color, this beer had almost no head when poured and it disappeared immediately. I mean, I looked away for a second, looked back and it was gone! Not even a ring around the collar. A bit of foam reappears briefly with each sip from a very tiny bit of carbonation that is seen emanating from below. Regardless of the looks, for some reason it bubbles up in the mouth and has a decent fizz factor. This is a phenomenon I don't recall experiencing in any other brew. Could be a weird batch, even though the best-by date is 5.10.11. Label is different too, so there may need to be an update on this one.

At first crack, the aroma of skunk cabbage recalled from my camping childhood in the Michigan woods jumped out at me. Not the most pleasant odor, it was a little foreboding, but like the head, it just disappeared! Nose in the glass reveals typical Euro metallic mineral scents, with a smattering of light hops. Nothing pronounced though.

Flavor-wise, it's a Bud (big surprise - not)! Light cereal malts and a bit of bitterness at the end as a reminder that it does contain all the essential ingredients. Nothing to write home about, but easily quaffed if you are thirsty, and slightly better tasting than its American copycat (although not as visually appealing due to the lack of a head).

Good enough though for sloshing back a grilled cheese sandwich, a burger and fries, or any other plain-Jane repast.

Pours a nice clear golden straw color...one inch of white head falls to hardly a ring that leaves minimal spots of lacing.

I smell pretzels, grass, and herbal hops. The aroma is crisp and pleasant. Makes me long for summer.

I taste white bread and some herbs.

Thin with a mild fizz. Just a bit of hop bitterness at the end.

Drinkable...that is what this style is all about.

Bottle.

Several bottles. The fresher the better. Clear light golden, thin white head. Nice wholesome grains, light soft sweetness on the nose. Clean and crisp in the mouth. As a good pilsner should be this one ends clean and a tiny bit grassy. Tight, soft, snappy, and one of my favorite go-to pilsners.

A- Very pale golden in colour. Thick creamy head that went down to a thin layer. Lots of visible carbonation.

S- Quite bitter smelling. Hop smell is quite strong, with hints of malts coming through, along with some caramel. A hint of skunk is somewhat detectable at the back, but very little and not enough to ruin the smell or taste of the beer.

T- Heavy sweet hop flavour at the front which develops into a light caramel malt flavour. Finishes with a lingering bitterness. Very light in the mouth.

D- Very enjoyable beer. More bitter than I was expecting so it was a surprise, but all in all a very good Czech pills.

An excellent version of a Czech pils. Why is this beer able to travel so well overseas but Urquell isn't? I wish I had an answer.

This beer is endlessly drinkable. Slight herbal notes, faint citrus as well, and, more importantly, completely satisfying when you are just looking for a beer to quaff without having to think too hard.

Not too light. Not too heavy. Crisp but with a subtle fullness that lends to the perfectly balanced mouthfeel.

If I could find it all the time, I would have this in my refrigerator 24/7. A delicious, delicious beer.

Now this is more like it. Pours an unbelievably clear and bright yellow with a thin white head.

Smells faintly of malts with some light sulfur notes, and floral hops

Taste is all hops, but it's not big and flambouyant like west coast beers. Lots of refined european hops with no dry hop character at all. It's very floral - almost like potpourri - and slightly earthy with an almost wintergreen-like spiciness to it.

Mouthfeel is a perfect balance - satisfying, but still dry and crisp at the end, balancing hoppy bitterness with hop flavour.

I think this is my new benchmark for what a czech pils ought to be.

Appearance: Poured from a bottle into a Hoegaarden pint glass in low altitude Galway, Ireland, on November 1st, 2010. Pours a clear gold with a three finger, thin head that doesn't retain well. Generally appealing.

Smell: A slightly musty scent, not very strong. Fresh barley and maybe a slight note of hops.

Taste: Some cream on the open followed by a clean pilsener barley taste cut by a pleasant finish. Built alright for a pilsener, but I've had far better. It's slightly out of balance.

Mouthfeel: Too wet but not watery. Dries up towards the finish; this is my favourite part of pilseners and this one does it well. It's a little too smooth.

Drinkability: I'm in no hurry to have another, but I'm not going to spit it out like most American macrolagers.

I wasn't very impressed by Budvar. I'd heard it was amazing, but it tasted very average to me. While mine was average, my friend's was skunky. They both came from the 'same' pack. What kind of high quality beer has this sort of inconsistency?
Go buy some of Argentina's Favorite Beer and leave this on the shelf.

Budweiser Budvar in UK

A Just like Czechvar in the US. Clear, deeper gold color than most Pilsners. 4

S. There is a nice, but faint hop aroma, othwise clean. 4

T Smells and tastes more like a German Pils than a Czech. Not a lot of malt, some "light struck" flavors. Hop bitterness is there, but not much hop flavor. 3

M Its thin and could use some malt to thicken it up some. Carbonation is good. 3

D A quafable beer. It is nice to have a pilsner that doesn't taste like water. Good all malt pilsner. 3.5

Drank this at the Grange Saint Paul Hotel in London last week.

Pleasantly surprised to see it on tap. Overall quite drinkable but not overwhelming. Served in a Brewery glass with a etched patch and logo "B" on the bottom. Review from notes.

Clear, pale straw, gold with Creamy, tight knit ,white head.

Smell is light floral, some faint grain.

Taste was light and clean, not bracing nor especially crisp.

Mouth feel was modest and light.

Very drinkable given the other options were a bit dodgy. Becks "4" and "Stella" though the Staropomen was a nice treat.

Overall a pleasant drinking experience.

Canned version. I find it surprising how generally well respected this beer is but in taste it's rather plain.

It does look good however. With a clear golden body, well defined head with sheets of lacing. Nice.

The smell is pilsner malt and grassy grain mostly.

Taste is simple, some pilsner malt & grain with a touch of floral hops. The problem is that it's just no interesting in the least.

Mouthfeel is good. Soft but with a refreshing amount of carbonation. Drinkability is just ok. It's goes down easy enough but I'm not interested enough to have another.

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a Guinness Pint Glass

A-straw-like yellow, inviting classic lager

S-bright, fresh, (seems again) inviting

T-good, biscuit, bread is right-on, also brightness comes through

M-good, a bit chewy, but (again) inviting

D-Very session-able, nothing uninviting here

Aroma is faint, with some hoppiness noticeable but that'sa bout it.

Taste is definitely very bright. Euro-malt tastes show themselves at first, followed by a good deal of grassiness/breadiness and malt sweetness throughout the finish. Some Nobel hops present at the swallow along the sides of the tongue. Aftertaste is minimal, and of some bread.

A godo refreshing, but not too dry beer.

11.2fl oz bottle poured into my stange

Appearance was slightly golden/light orange mix with a one inch white head. A little less than average head retention with no lacing noticeable.

Aroma consist of grains with the likes of hay and corn. Citrus smell of lemon along with some noble hops. Herbal and earthy aromatics are also detected with cracker like malts.

Upfront taste of saaz hops with some lemon zest. Midway is a sweet malty taste with caramel and cracker like malts.

Light bodied with high carbonation. Very crisp and slightly sweet finish.

Great Drinkability and something I would buy again.

I have had this beer over the years, I love Pilsner, real Czech or German pils. I lived in Germany for a time, and had good pils from time to time.

Finally I got to the Czech Republic and I would say, drink this beer in it's home country and you will fall in love.

Appearance: Fast forming Foam, when watching the Beer Tender, Really sexy lacing as you drink it. I mean, SEXY! with a Golden clear glass where you can observe its purity.

Smell:Fragrent, like freshly cut grass with lemon, I mean the real Pilsner hop arouma.

Taste: you can taste the bitter hops and the blend with the malt. The hops are spicy and herbal. It teases or stings your tounge.

Mouthfeel: it is light, refreshing and crisp. It leaves a smouth finish that invite another mouthful. It is so crisp that regular beer drinkers would love, and beer lovers can dig into.

On tap poured into a .5l Budvar glass.

This is an awesome beer, I enjoyed it many times while in Prague, I wish it was sold in the US.

Pours a light pale golden color with a nice one finger fine white head that leaves a bit of light lacing. Nose is fairly sweet and malty with s slightly bitter note on the end.

Taste is delectable. It's easily one of the most drinkable beers I've ever had, it's creamy and sweet with a nice hop bite. Mouthfeel is a bit chewy and thick but still very crisp.

Deep gold in colour, brilliant clarity. Poorly retained white fluffy head, no lace. Grassy and faintly floral aroma. Very restrained scent. Clean pils malt flavour, grassy/spicy hops, hint of lemon, soft bitterness, crisp finish. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. This classic Czech pils is pretty good, but I prefer Pilsner Urquell.

500ml can poured into a pint glass

Appearance - pours a clear golden yellow with lots of carbonation and a big foamy/fizzy white head. There is a little bit of lacing.

Smell - There is a slight skunkiness, hops, breads/grains, citrus zest.

Taste & Mouth - there is a decent amount of carbonation, and it starts a little skunky. Not a whole lot of taste going on, hops come in at the end and it is relatively dry. It is slightly watery to me.

Drink - just an average beer in my books, not something I'd seek out again.

A:Orange pale pigmentation , translucent. Serving generates a rich lather tone clear, with average retention wide bubble. The carbonation is light but steady small bubbles.

S: It has a biscuit and malt aroma with an ethyl touch .

T: With bitter taste beginning to end, with a long finish and most bitter

Had this on tap at a chinese restaurant in Prague. Served in a pils glass, cool.

A-clear golden yellow body and a thick white cap of a head.

S-metallic, clean and floral.

T-sweet grain and cereal front, light cleansing hop finish.

M-light,

D-good but really lacks character and depth. Refreshing, nothing off in the flavor department, but I think there are better choices out there.

Pours a straw-yellow with thin white head. Not too much in way of head retention or lacing. Smell is grassy hops and grainy malt. Flavour has a little bit of the grassy hop bitterness, with a sweet malt. Nothing too exciting about this, but it is pleasant to drink. A little bit prickly carbonation, but still quite drinkable on a warm day.

Clear yellow in color with a thin white head. Smells of sulphur and light malt. Taste is sweet maltiness up front, with a sulphur euro lager middle, and a earthy grassy finish. Lower bitterness levels than I expected. Mouthfeel is average, average carbonation. Good drinkability, light and refreshing. Slightly above average Czech pils.

Well right off the bat, my local beer buddy and me decided it wasn't bad, kinda like a heineken, but without the skunk and better. Truly it's not bad at all.

then I saw that it was a bud product. Felt a little let down, especially since this stuff is probably being sold under the fancier Czechbar label so they can jack up the price to unsuspecting Americans... D'oh!

But I'll give it a fair review...

Poured clear and golden yellow. A frothy white head didn't last that long or leave a lot of lacing. Decent for the style.

Smelled of straw and a tad of spiced hops, nothing exciting here.

I gotta admit, it actually tastes pretty good. It's grainy with a little bit of spicy hopped flavor.

Pleasant to the pallet.
Light bodied, dry, plenty of carbonation and easy to drink.

Probably the best of budweiser's offerings I've ever had. I'm a little miffed at the price but the beer isn't bad at all. If it were priced more reasonably I'd buy it more often. It does leave me wanting another purely for the quality of the beer tho.

I bought a sixer of these and brought it home. I then poured the beer into one of my Warsteiner Pils glasses. I was frightened by the initial smell and thankfully it went away. it was an unpleasant yeast smell that was sitting on top of the bottle. Thankfully the beer was not "skunked" out and it tasted like a pilsner should. The appearance was average but made up in taste.

A: A beautiful golden yellow with effervescent bubble that rise up the pilsner glass. A good head when I first poured which reduced to a paper thin head. No lacing detected.

S: Floral and grassy hop smell which is beautiful which combats a stinky yeast smell that I got when I first opened the beer. Thankfully the yeast smell goes away a minute after the pour.

T: A true pilsner with a nice crisp spicy Saaz hop bite followed by a floral/grassy taste. The malt character is grassy with a moderate sweetness.

M: Airy and an a little drying. It will make you burpy however but it a light bodied beer that is thin and true to style.

D: This can be enjoyed in all seasons as it provides a thirst quenching aspect to it.
