From Hipercor. In Teku glass. Watching Vikings 4x07. Feels much more refreshing and clean than the pilsner urquell, both in aroma and taste. Tasted just after a pilsner urquell, for comparing.

Amazed how similar to American bud this was. Yellow, ample carbonation and clarity, sudsy white head 1/3". Aroma had that corn and rice sweetness, faint, but maybe a little more barley malt notes.

Taste had a noble and sorachi type of lemon hop earthiness going for it, understated with all the high carbonation.

Tastes like slightly older Budweiser.

Pours golden, nice first impression.

Tinny notes to the aroma as some other reviewers have also found.

Flavor is mild and with noticeable "off" character similar to the typical Heineken experience. Some hops, not much malt.

Disappointing overall after the favorable reviews I have read. In fact I poured most of it down the drain - would rather "spend" my beer calories on something better. Perhaps this can was mishandled or otherwise untypical.

Served from a 0.5 L can purchased at a grocery store in Vienna, Austria.

This Bud's for you.

Excellent European Lager, one of the first and still one of the best. First rate color, flavor, texture, very complex, one is tempted to say complete. I would rate this higher but I consider all Lagers of whatever pedigree to be refreshment type beers forever locked in the middle category.

This is the one to try if you are curious about the genuine European (non-German) style lager. But only if it's fresh.

L: Dark gold. Clear. Some light carbonation visible. One finger off-white head reduces to a thin ring very quickly. Couple of spots of lacing.

S: Spicy grains.

T: Clean malt flavour. Some sweetness.

F: Light to medium body. Tangy. Oily finish.

Poured from a green 500ml bottle. Is an ok pilsner. I prefer the crisper, sharper taste and feel of German pilsners. But if you're looking for a lager, this is a better choice than that whole raft of identikit Euro pale lagers (Carlsberg, Stella, Heineken, Peroni, San Miguel, Carling, Becks...blah, blah) that dominate the market.

To make this clear - the original Czech "Budweiser" is not really a pilsner beer, it is a lager beer (can also be seen on the description "Czech Imported Lager"). That means there's less hoppy taste than f.e. in "Pilsner Urquell".
It is a great allround and all-year beer for all kinds of use, no matter if you drink it with a good meal or have a few on a long evening.
Maybe not the best beer in its taste, but definitly one of the best to drink frequently.

Good feel, taste is quite beforehand, mild aftertaste. Good food beer. /// Kuohkea ja hieman kupliva suutuntuma. Maku etupainotteinen, kevyt jälkimaku. Matala humalan maku, keskimäärin mieto olut. Hyvä ruokaolut.

This is an excellent example of what a pilsner should be, as it offers much more complexity than your average mass-produced version of this classic style. Highly recommended if you want a better pilsner.

A- This pours a very clear golden color with an initial one finger thick head, however, this dissipates very quickly. Carbonation seems to be reasonable and unassuming, which is different from the imposter Bud we think of as the original. Lacing is actually not bad, as small patches of foam cling to the side of the glass.

S- The aromas are floral, and full of malt, which is nice by comparison to what I was expecting. There is a distinct hop petal bitterness but its smooth and not in your face.....the malt is syrupy and somewhat honeyed....really nice and a very decent smelling Euro lager!

T- Oh this has flavor! There is a very sweet tone throughout the taste that is almost candied. Im not sure if in fact there is adjunct grains added, but the sweetness reminds me like its' been derived from corn/corn syrup, but it's not so distinctive. Floral/hopped finish, that is mild and grassy/grainy....not bad but could use a little more of a crisp finish....

M/O- For sure this is a summer time lager that is stupid easy to drink and drink some more! It is medium bodied, creamy and dare I say flabby?! Carbonation is fairly robust and the alcohol is hidden well.....would I drink this again...yeah, and do I think it's better than AB Bud....Yes! However, I would most definitely pick another Czech lager over this one....still, its good!

Pours a golden color, nice bubbly head. However, it quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing.
I served it from a can, which revealed a slightly metallic aroma. However, there was also some nice malt aromas and even a hint of floral and herbal tones.
Mostly malty sweet taste. Hops finish. Low carbonation and not as crisp as I would like.
Mostly bland but better than American Budweiser.

I'll say this: it matters where you're drinking this beer. Maybe that should go without saying, but I've had this dozens of times in Canada and been unimpressed. Poured fresh, in Czech Republic, though, it's another story entirely: crisper, hoppier, fresher. Better body.

Served cool / cold from 500ml green bottle into Veltins pilsner mug.

I'm on a supermarket Czech pilsner flight tonight (Staropramen, Urquell, Budweiser); let's see how this one ranks.

L) Light to medium amber, clear, lots of bubbles. Head dissipates quickly to a patchy white film. Noticeably lighter in colour and inferior head to Staropramen and Urquell.

S) For a green bottle, no real skunk, which is a bonus. On the downside, the odour is flat lager malt, without the fragrant Saars hops of the Staropramen (in particular) and Urquell. Lacking.

T) A clean flavour, light with no bitterness and a fairly pleasant mild pilsner malt sweetness. Hints of wet brown paper in there.

F) Clean and refreshing, held back a bit with the slight sweetness.

O) Out of the three Czech Pilsners I've had tonight, this comes last. As always though, a thoroughly drinkable lager when cold. Steady, go for the dark lager if you can get it.

The first thing I noticed was the slightly skunky smell when I popped the cap but, once I got past that things were fine. Poured nicely with a white foamy head but, it didn't last long. Over-all taste and feel is OK but it's not something I'm going out of my way to look for.

My favorite among the pilsners. I never tasted beer with such great nuance of hop flavor. I once compared it with other pilsner beers and Bud had much more golden dimly color than the other one. Overall 4.75/5

500ml can into nonic pint. canned on december 21, 2014. best before december 21, 2015. consumed on april 7, 2015. happy national beer day

a: transparent pale yellow with 3 fingers of slightly off-white head

s: sweet-smelling malty-crackery aroma with floral touches from the noble hops

t: follows the nose. crackers, grainy bread, mildly bitter floral hops, all enveloped by a honey-like sweetness

m: quite thin, with less-sharper-than-desired carbonation. would be nice if it had a drier finish too

o: the mouthfeel is a bit of a letdown, but otherwise this is a tasty pils

This beer was so good that a certain American Brewer stole its name. It is light, clean and crisp with light grain flavors. Straw gold, effervescent with a crisp hop accent.

Bottled
Now there is probably a large amount of rose tinted glasses with my mark
this was quite often the only good lager and with most keg bitters being worse than cheap uk lagers
best beer in many good music venues
it a decent enough golden lager with plenty of malt flavour and aroma and a little bitter finish

Review based on the BJCP2008 (style 2B - Bohemian pilsner). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: mild sweet and grainy aroma with some DMS. no floral hop aromas. APPEARANCE: gold color and translucent. thin creamy white head with average retention. TASTE: mild sweet grainy flavour. medium-low bitterness with a medium-dry finish. PALATE: medium-thin body with medium carbonation. OVERALL: a bland bohemian pilsner. where are the Saaz hops? NOTE: the label says "Czech Imported Lager" wich we are inclined to believe this is a special batch without the hops. We have in memory that this beer is more hop intensive than this drinked example.

This is the US version, Czechvar, the version that's exported to the US, with the name changed, so as to not confuse it with good ol' AB-InBev's Budweiser. This one is much better. Bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Henrietta, NY.

Pours a clear golden yellow, classic lager look. There's active bubbly carbonation going on throughout the session. There's a small wispy head, and a little bit of lacing sticking to the glass.

This smells like lager yeast, grains, grass, and some floral aromas.

This obviously doesn't taste all that bold, but it's a well-made, slightly spicy Czech pilsner. It definitely knocks the socks off regular US Bud. There's some bready malt, a bit more malty than the pilsners I've tried, with a crisp, crackery feel to it. The hop flavor is pretty apparent- there's a crisp, grassy and slightly spicy bite to this one with each sip. Everything goes well together, taste-wise. There's a distinct essence of lager yeast with each sip. It's slightly skunky, but not overwhelmingly so. It does slightly detract, though.

This is light bodied, with a crisp, highly carbonated mouthfeel. It's very drinkable.

It's really cool to finally be able to try this one.

Poured from a glass bottle into a plastic cup in my hotel room (In Alsace, France).

Really funky aroma. Powerful, hay and horse manure with fresh, damp prairie. Pain de campagne type breadiness. No residual sugar that I can tell.

This is a lot better than I remember it tasting a few years ago in the US. I do enjoy this quite a bit. The funkiness is by no means overwhelming but it is not a world class beer. Better than any american adjunct lager that I can think of, and with substantially more aromatics and character. I would definitely recommend this as a beer for beer's sake, nothing more.

I don't have any notes from when I tried this beer but I do remember it being a good example of a pilsesner. I can recommend for anyone who enjoys them.

The aroma is simple but pleasant enough—some spicy, earthy hops and cookie sweetness. The body is a brilliantly clear amber with a dense, off-white head. The flavor has some of that subtle cookie sweetness along with a fair amount of tart bitterness and a touch of popcorn butter, especially as it warms up. The carbonation is moderate, and the body is light but fuller than a basic lager; smooth with a crisp bite.

Tasty and refreshing, albeit rather simple on the whole. There are at least no unwelcome aspects.

Look: Poured with a finger and a half of head that stayed around decently but did not lace. The body is a clear brassy gold with very even steady carbonation.

Smell: Pretty run of the mill here, some meandering strawy malt with a dry mixed hop undertone and a slight tangerine note. There's nothing bad that stands out, but there's nothing spectacular here. Strength wise, it's average.

Taste: The beer starts with solid dose of plain, simple barley malt. It's very plain but it is oddly without straw like grassiness or corn like sweetness. It then turns to a crisp dusting of light dry hops. The entire beer is permeated by a peculiar citrus and soft fruit sensation, that's too nebulous to really identify, so it's likely some strange effect of the yeast at work. Simple but well done.

Mouthfeel: This is really where this beer shines, I'm not normally a fan of a dryness in beer, but this works. The aftertaste is that very light simple barley with a hop kick that crisply cleanses the palette. The carbonation turned a bit lax too quickly, but even then it helps out the entire beer.

Drinkability: The dryness I could see getting out of hand after a couple, but all in at the beer is refreshing, mild and light bodied and sits down admirably. That being said, plain will only take you so far.

Final Thoughts: All in all a good Pilsner, and the kind of beer that strikes me as the perfect "End of the work day" beer. Make no mistake though, there's nothing incredible about this beer, it's just a well made, simple Pilsner for quenching your thirst and easing your mind.

Pours a golden amber, building a decent finger of head which drops quickly leaving no lacing at all.
The aroma I first encounter is one of earthy hops, almost a sour smell.
Tasting the lager I get the hops, however they are quite delicate, almost pushed aside by the malt. There is a fruitiness to the after that I cannot put my finger on.
The finish is a little dry and mildly bitter.

Its a good lager, but it is one with a mass produced, retail quality. I would not turn it down, nor would I purposely go looking for it.
