We designed this beer for runners competing in a race in Warwick City Park, but we liked it so much it became part of our lineup. This robust porter stays true to its British roots with grains and hops chosen to keep with old brewing traditions. Each taste delivers a complex blend of subtle coffee and almond notes with a rich toasty flavor throughout. This beer was a winner and we feel confident that you’ll be won over too.

Poured from a 12oz can into an oversize snifter. Purchased in North Providence, RI.
Pours a deep brown body with a creamy light mocha colored head that reduces to a thin layer of retention and little lacing.
On the nose is coffee, toffee, slight plastic off note, caramel and a definite hop backbone.
On the tongue are big smokey notes, coffee, light chocolate, roasted malt. A little lacking on the body (slightly light), but flavors are pronounced. Light bitterness on the finish.
Overall not a bad beer.. I'd recategorize this as a smoked beer, as the distinct smokey flavor is prominent.

I had purchased this CAN & at least one other while visiting Nikki's in PVDRI a while back. I thought that I had eradicated all of them in support of The CANQuest (tm), but then this one surfaced as a problem child, pooching up on at least one side of the lid. 8=( It immediately went into the reefer for (at least) stasis purposes & today it its day! Fingers crossed.
From the CAN: "This robust [P]orter greets you with a bold, malt-forward character with rich chocolate and coffee notes, and a deliciously smooth finish."; "Bucket Brewery has been brewing artisan crafted beer in Pawtucket, RI since 2012. Our beers are brewed in small batches with a focus on subtle, complex and balanced flavors across all beer styles."
I Crack!ed the vent open with much less difficulty than I had CANvsioned. The pooch was almost directly behind the tab, making my mechanical advantage even greater than usual. The Glug went acCANding to plan, forming a pseudo-cascade that settled into two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light brown head with great retention. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44) with garnet highlights only at the edges. Nose held a coffee roastiness with a Baker's chocolatiness, which is to say bitter/bittersweet. Mouthfeel was full, thick & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth. The taste was equally coffee/chocolaty/roasty with a slight tang. Hmm. Had it developed an infection, causing the pooch? If so, it was a) mighty light & b) I have tasted MUCH worse. In fact, this tanginess gave it an additional dimension that made me like it all the more. I CANnot stress enough how much I dislike sweets in any form & this was nothing if not dry. Was this what they intended? Perhaps not, but it drank just fine for me, thank you very much. YMMV.

The appearance was a stiff dark brown close to black color with a cap of a little white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Slight lace. The aroma had some sweet and roasty nuts strolling into some coffee bean roastiness and a light milk and dark chocolate contour in the background. The flavor was moderately sweet with the roast complimenting nicely. Aftertaste was nice and sweet, just a touch of roast. Finish seemed nice and sweet. The palate was between light and medium bodied with a good carbonation and ABV. Somewhat smooth along my tongue. Overall, pretty nice porter that I could come back to.

12oz can. Pours a dark brownish black with ruby hues and almost no head. Barely any lacing. Malty aroma with light coffee and chocolate. A hint of cola. The taste is more of the cola taste with some roasted malts and a touch of espresso. Slightly nutty finish. Light mouthfeel with very little carbonation. Overall, ok.

L - Dark brown/near black. Nearly no head which disipated quickly. No lacing get at all
S - Best thing going about the beer, for me. Good malt smell but no overpowering.
T - For a robust porter it was a little weak in the flavor department. Nothing outstanding
F - A little thin
O - Tasted a bit flat, if that's possible. No bottling date on the can but was hoping for more from this beer, overall, as it's a local. May have to review again in the future

Sampling a cold 32 oz growler poured into a small clear cup. ON vacation so didnt have great glass ware.
The beer pours a rich cola brown with minimal slightly frothy beige head on the pour. This is mostly gone immediately with only some large bubbles clinging to the sides and some windowpane lattice on the cup after each sip.
The aroma is rich and malty with chocolate bar and come roasted malt mixing nicely with some slight nutty notes and hints of brown sugar. Overall the nose is appealing but is on the mild side.
First sip reveals an average body with very fine and spacious carbonation.
Flavor is some chalky dark chocolate which moves to a bit of roasted malt and finishes sweeter than I thought with some chocolate kiss of sweetness. No hops that I pick up anywhere on this brew. I do find the ABV to be hidden very well and enjoy the beer. the growler says 7.8% abv and that definitely sneaks up on me by the end of the sampling.
A pretty good robust porter without being boozy. Id recommend to other Malty's.
