Had on tap at Nor'Easter event at brewery

Appearance: low carbonation, 1/4 inch head, opaque, dark brown in color

Smell: oak and chocolate

Taste: big whiskey oaking to start, sweet caramel in the middle, and earthy bitterness towards the end.

Mouthfeel: oaky with a bitter aftertaste, heavy-bodied, low carbonation

Overall: An above average sipper and a decent example of the style. Of the three beers I had at the Nor'Easter, this was my least favorite. I really like Henry's Farm without oaking and the oaking here seemed like it added bitterness that did not fit. Not bad, I just prefer the original better. (615 characters)

Poured from a tap into a pint glass. Dark brown with two fingers of head. Very aromatic and woodsy. Strong barrel wood smell. Burnt toffee and stale whiskey in the taste. Interesting robust flavor but way too much oak/wood in the taste. Not balanced, but a lot of flavor going on. (280 characters)

Bottle shared at the monthly bottle share held at Flask Fine Wines in Studio City, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with brown sugar, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is solid, but sort of boring for a barrel aged beer to me.
