Traditional in concept with a Two Roads twist…dry hops. We use a combination of classic German as well as American hop and malt varieties in our Pils. We renovated a 100 year-old factory building and designed this Pils to have “extra” aroma…so, pardon the pun! Crisp…refreshing…refined.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #79 (Aug 2013):

BAM! An instant favorite here, so fine tuned and well balanced. It easily rivals most of its counterparts—of course, freshness helps, but still. Big mugs are a must, which is a hint that Two Roads should package in 16oz cans.

STYLE: German Pilsner
ABV: 5.0%

LOOK: Bright pale yellow, sudsy

SMELL: Fresh-cut grass, spicy hop, soft hop resin, clean, bready, leafy

TASTE: Lovely smoothness, fluffy moderate body, fresh maltiness, bread, grassy, nutty, spicy herbal hop, balanced bitterness, oily resin, clean palate, peppery; long, dry, hoppy finish

12 oz bottle with Bottled on dating.

Pours near clear and very light, goldish. Bubbles continue to rise, slight off white head, thin collar and light spotty lace left on the glass.

Biscuity malt nose

Brightly flavorful and with crispness jumping out , grassy hop blast, heavy lime notes, and malts adding the smooth and balance.

Not a huge pilsner fan, but this one is bold and a nice very American take on the traditional old world style

Appearance: minimal head, low carbonation, gold in color, clear

Smell: earthy hops and grain

Taste: grain, grass, toasted malt, and citrus hop smack at the end

Mouthfeel: sweet start with a bitter middle and a more bitter smack at the end, medium-light carbonation, medium-light bodied

Overall: An above average hoppy but not overly hoppy German pils. If I am in the mood for the style, I would certainly get this. The dry hopping adds a refreshing element. That said there are others in the style I would get first.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Hazy yellow with a thin white head. No lacing on the glass.

Smell: Light hops.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of bitter hops with some mild earthy notes.

Overall: Not a bad pilsner.

Just not for me, got it in the beer bus by two roads and gave most of them.

All around solid German pilsner. Nice light golden color with a hint of grassy hops in the nose. Pilsner malts come through strong on the tongue and the finish is fairly dry and the noble hops come out a bit. Very crisp and refreshing but doesn't quite meet the flavor profile of the benchmark guys like Elm City and Prima Pils. However, this is one of their solid year-round offerings for sure.

Golden, nearly translucent pour with thin white head. Crazy lace for a pils. Smell is of bread crust, biscuit, some caramalt, a bit of a hop presence. Taste somewhat follows nose with the malt leading the way. A slight bitter taste adds a nice touch. Feel is medium. Not a bad beer for a hot summer day.

Two Roads Brewing Co. "OL'FACTORY"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BTLD 04/16/15 09:10"

I absolutely love this beer! Brilliant. The hop character is spicy, grassy, lemony, herbal, and even a touch piney. The malt expresses pilsner malt, but there's subtly biscuity and nutty side to it as well which is probably coming form the residual yeast. It looks great, maintaining its fluffy white head for seemingly forever while leaving beautiful lacing behind (I don't mind the slight haze, and in fact like it, but I guess I do have to ding them there a little bit). Does it fit exactly what I think of when I think of German pilsner? No, but that's the beauty of it in a certain way. The body seems lighter (not that it necessarily is), and the hops really give it life. It's unique. Excellent! When I saw this I knew I had to pick it up based on the quality of their Saison, and from this point on I'll try any of their beers that I see.
