Textbook clarity. Cherry-copper color. Head stand is strong but a tad foamy and dilutes flavor on first sips.

Faint, bready caramel notes. Lighter fruit like apple or banana and a cherry wood quality. Some sort of light metallic hay aroma.

A little on the dry side throughout with too much carbonation.

The toasted pumpernickel comes through in a huge way, which is a problem because it's not inherently sweet. More sour with some spice too it, maybe for the American audience. Has a soft caramel aspect and some chocolate on back. Seems light on fruit to me. Overall, the toasted pumpernickel and chocolate amp up the bitterness despite lack of hops. Interesting take.

This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a ruddy brown color with a slim finger-ed white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy semi-sticky lacing glossed all around the glass nicely. The smell took in the bready/biscuit malts running through a light semi-spicy rye sliding in for a nice balance. Toffee and caramel malts follow through as well for a nice accompaniment. The taste was bready sweet and then a spicy rye follows in delicately to balance nicely. Rye hits a bit more in the aftertaste. Semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good. Overall, I’d say this was a pretty good doppelbock that I would have again.

12 is. bottle poured into a stemmed glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep, clear amber. One-finger eggshell head. Attractive.

Aroma: Candied apples, a little booze, malt sweetness, maybe some cherries.

Taste: Those sweet malts and fruits are right there. Apples, cherries, maybe grapes. Caramel, toffee are there, too. Nice booze kick - not medicinal.

Mouthfeel: Solid body for a lager. Not heavy, but substantial.

Overall: One of the better domestic bocks you'll have. A winner from a brewery that trades in great beer.

From the ancient bottle, it pours a coppery amber with a small head, dissipating quickly into a small ring. caramel malt predominates in the nose. The mouth enjoys the slightl y burnt caramel toffee flavor. Enjoyable.

7/5...pours soft brown with scant foam island on top. Malty nose. Sweet. Hints of vanilla and cola. Flat malty taste, thick, some bitter astringency. Caramel/toffee flavors. Hints of cherries mixed in the malt. Smooth.
