The Connecticut Yankees of Two Roads have CONNjured up this moonshine inspired bourbon-like ale. Using good ol' USA corn grits and aged in real bourbon barrels from a famous Kentucky distillery, this unique CONNcoction includes notes of whiskey, oak and vanilla. It should make your taste buds happier than a pig in "____"

A: deep amber ale, hazed opacity; few fingers of tan head slimmed to a persistent cap; some lace trails

S: sweet wet fruit, pale, orchard-style; bourbon barrel oak; something spicy about the fruit; little herbal and floral

T: fat wet fruit and malt, bourbon barrel flavors woven throughout; hints of spiced amber orchard fruit, like apricot, maybe overripe, and fermenting...

M: slightly chewy but fuzzy and soft; medium-weight, plush feel across the palate; tingly; just a hint of drying on the finish

O: admittedly partial to this type of ale, I am pleased with Two Roads product. Lush and rustic, with a drinkable abv. Most of the reviews are for last year's batch - as of this, I'm only the second reviewer in 2014. Give it a try - it's not polished like Curieux or Doom, but it's a very enjoyable ale. Recommended.

A - dark brown, transparent, only a bit of haze from the sediment as I finished the bottle. An easy pour wells up a huge white head, with good retention. Had to let it sit for a minute to finish the pour.

S - a mellow aroma, not typically strong. A simple sweet aroma, reminiscent of corn mash or even Apple-y

T - much more powerful than the aroma. Sweet first and foremost. Not sickly sweet, but mellow and relaxed sweet. Again reminiscent of corn or apples, all a prelude to a strong malty backbone that hides the ABV.

M&D&O - the mouthfeel is sticky and sweet, invitingly so. It's a tasty beer. The ABV is a bit sneaky, but it's a quaffable brew indeed.

On-tap 5/17/2014 at Track 84, in Warwick, RI served in a goblet glass.

A: The beer is a deep coppery brown color, with a short dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains bourbon, caramelized malts, vanilla and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, vanilla and bourbon. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid flavorful beer to drink worth drinking for a while.
