On-tap at Taproom No. 307, New York, NY
A: The beer is very close to being jet black in color. It poured with a finger high dense off white head that has very good retention properties and consistently left a thick head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose along with some hints of rum.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the flavors of the rum barrel aging are stronger and most noticeable towards the finish. Slight hints of roasted malts are also noticeable. The rum becomes stronger as the beer warms up.
M: It feels medium-bodied and smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: For a barrel aged beer, this is quite easy to drink because the rum isn't overly strong.

Served on nitro-tap at Draught 55 in New York, NY
A: Pours a clear but opaque very dark reddish amber in color with minimal amounts of visible carbonation and lots of ruby + garnet red highlights. The beer has a finger tall creamy light tan head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sweet dark and bready malts with a nice light aroma of rum including some hints of chocolate + vanilla.
T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of sweet bready malts along with some dark malts. The malts lead into a nice light flavor of semi-sweet chocolate, vanilla, and rum. Light amounts of earthy bitterness from the hops in the finish which lends just a touch of bitterness to the finish but that fades quickly.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Nice and smooth.
O: I rather enjoyed this rum barrel aged lager - might be a unique combination for me... The flavors of the rum from the barrel aging were quite complementary without being overpowering or dominating. Also nice to have a beer named in honor of Ozzy!

Capped off a night at the brewery with this sublime brew.
A: It's a nitro pour so it had the telltale display of cascading lusciousness. Best creamy head I've experienced, just outstanding
S: This is aged in their rum barrels so yeah, you smell a bit of rum, chocolate, bready malt and vanilla
T: This beer was nothing short of a revelation for me. Generally not a style I'd order frequently (see my other John Michael review) but it had me questioning that immediately - a beautiful balance of sweet malt, chocolate, rum, vanilla all in an ultra smooth nitro body. Not sure I could have enjoyed it more
M: Ultra smooth and creamy. About as good a nitro pour as I've had.
O: I'm scratching my head wondering what they could do to make this a "5" and I can't really think of much. What amazed me about this beer compared to most barrel-aged brews I've had was it's balance - nothing hit you over the head. Just a well balanced sophistication that made me rethink my aversion to barrel-aged beers which I unually find are way too boozy and hard to finish. I polished this off and then had another which is saying a lot (tho' it was a black and tan mixed with their "Dean" beer - that too was incredible). These guys have only been open about 8 months according to the server, super impressive. Viva Astoria yo!!
