Pours a deep thick midnight black. Very fizzy for an imperial stout, bubbled likely a can of soda would.

Slightly dankness (not sure what that is, but kind of a turn off), chocolate, and burnt malts.

Very malts, straight roasted, basically charred malts with just the slightest hint of chocolate.

Mouthfeel is silky smooth.

Overall, this is kind of a funky RIS, but I'd sample it again.

Gift from a buddy who was in Chicago.

Poured an opaque black. Light brown head of thick bubbles.

Smell was a tinny. Burnt malts and burnt sugars.

Upfront I was hit with caramelized sugar which gave way to a sea salt caramel taste. Heavy on the black strap molasses flavors, mixed with a hint of burnt toffee. Roasted malts and hops make for a bitter finish.

Thinner viscosity than some may appreciate. Yet still full enough to make this brew feel big.

Overall, a nice departure from the heavy coffee and coco flavors RIS's have come to stand for in modern times. A lot more caramelized sugary flavors to play with. I rather enjoyed it.

Loved regular GFY, excited to try the imperial version. 22oz bottle for $11, poured at cellar temp into tulip glass

Pours a dark brown, near black, with a big billowy head of light mocha color which has impressive retention and lacing. Smell is suuuuper roasty; if you thought the original GFY was roasty, as I did, this takes it up a notch. Roasted barley, bitter hops, burnt tobacco, coffee grounds, baker's chocolate, a hint of vanilla, quite aromatic. Taste is exceptional - building upon the nose, this delivers with a punch of roasted malts without being necessarily smokey. Big on the chocolate in the taste, with coffee notes present as well. Bitterness from generous hop additions. Very little alcohol in the taste. The mouthfeel is heavy but not as thick as BCBS, for example. However, the creamy texture, appropriate carbonation, smooth silky texture, dry sticky finish, and overall drinkability for this 10% beer is remarkable.

Overall, this was one of, if not the best, RIS I've had in recent memory. Spiteful is absolutely killing it right now. Seek this out, especially if you're a fan of Darkness. This gives Darkness a run for its money.

Batch #96

Appearance: Pours with about a finger of tan/dark brown head. Head settles in to a light layer across the top while drinking. Carbonation is very active, especially for a big RIS. Sticky lacing left behind at each level.

Smell: Once the bottle was opened, rich roasted malt and barley character exploded out. After that initial assault, a balanced and robust body of black licorice, almonds, earthy hops, straw, dark chocolate, molasses, and tobacco settle in.

Taste: Milk chocolate and oats wash over the palate first really pulling the drinker in. As the brighter front fades, roasted malt and barley begin to punish the palate. Waves and waves of dark chocolate, bitter hops, and sticky molasses are unrelenting. The finish is mossy hops, heavy almost burnt malt, and tobacco.

Mouthfeel: Rich backbone of malt, barley, and hops give a thick mouthfeel you would expect from a stout of this caliber. This brew is thick but still allows everything else going on to shine through. Carbonation fits in perfectly with the vision behind this brew.

Overall: I loved the original so I was so amped to try this. Pretty much everything I expected and then some. Full bodied, unrelenting, if you love your big punishing stouts as much as I do get your hands on this one. Still waiting for Spiteful to make an average brew. Bravo.

Overall: this is a great stout. I have yet to try a Spiteful beer that wasn't, A. really good, and B. exactly as advertised.

Looks great going into the glass. I got almost no head on my pour, with minimal lacing. I don't get much complexity from the smell on this one, but I sure taste it. There's a nice roasty chocolatey flavor that comes first, and then a sweet and bitter interplay on the finish. At the back end I taste coffee and some fruit (cherry). The finishing sweetness that actually reminds me of bourbon, I think this taste great after some time in a barrel. I wouldn't be surprised if they're planning it in the future. And if they do, I'll be calling my bottle shop to make sure I can get one.
