22oz Bomber
$9.99
Binny's - Willowbrook

Batch #124

Selfies are for Wieners? Agreed. The beer pours rather golden but when the snifter is filled the liquid appears burnt orange. Tiny carbonation bubbles creep to the surface in massive numbers. The foam is pure, dense, and creamy. It falls to a ring rather quickly but it's a ring a finger thick. Lacing creates 100% coverage on the glass. Impressive start.

Wow! Potency. Tropical fruits run amok. Papaya and pineapple in waves are met by tangerine and apricot, all in heavy handed doses. Citra dominates this beer. A little mango, ripe, a little orange peel, a dash of pine, they're all present. The malt is pale with a sugar cookie character and a drizzle of caramel. A clean note of alcohol adds a spicy character. This beer smells like Zombie Dust juiced up.

The flavor keeps stride with the aroma. Huge tropical notes off the bat. Juicy pineapple, papaya, and mango to kick things off. Citric pithy kicks in mid-palate with grapefruit and orange bitterness, though soft. The pineapple is slightly lactic like I tend to get with the use of Citra. The malt base is simply a canvas for the hop profile, adding some balancing sugar along the way. Again, there's a note of clean alcohol that adds a peppery bite to the finish. Great beer!

As good as the nose and flavor of this beer is, and they're damn good, the mouthfeel is probably the most well executed aspect. The body is moderate in weight with a silkiness upfront before active carbonation adds both speed and frothiness. This IIPA is flat out dangerous. It drinks like a 6% beer and weighs in at a liver stomping 9.4%.

I have to be honest here. Selfies are for Wieners is one of the best new beers I've drank in a while. It's hugely pungent, drippingly juicy, and dangerously drinkable. It will creep up on you. I guarantee it. I love me some Zombie Dust, again, this is like Zombie Dust on 'roids. Buy this beer. (1,928 characters)

Appearance: pours with about two fingers of head. Sticky layers left behind with each drink. Color is light copper.

Smell: bright sweet malts and sugary full bodied honey notes greet the drinker. Heavier saturated citrus shows up on the body. Enticing yet light tropical fruits really pull the drinker in.

Taste: freshly baked sweet rolls drizzled with honey and sugar greet the palate. The honey builds and adds earthy notes. Then like a strike of lightning, bright tropical fruits light up the palate. Mangos, kiwi, tangerine, and papaya blast on the scene. The finish is a cornucopia of the most wonderful accents found in the beer, with sweet malts and full bodied fruits.

Mouthfeel: carbonation is done to near perfection, just a touch bright. Sweet malts and huge fruits and honey dance on the palate long after drinking.

Overall: I don't think there is a better IPA being made in Chicago. Honey notes are done perfectly and compliment the malt and hop tones perfectly. Spiteful contiue to make outstanding beer across the board. (1,040 characters)

Pours golden yellow, cloudy, with a finger of off-white foam.

Grapefruit, mango, honey, and toast.

Candied malts, citrus and tropical fruit, and sweet honey.

Medium-bodied, medium carbonation, semi-chewy, sticky, sweet.

Overall, this turned out swell. (255 characters)

Thanks to Joe for this one!

Pours a coppery saturated dark orange, plenty of sturdy parchment colored foam on the surface. Sticky collar of lace, random arcs and patchy partial halos form and etch themselves into the glass.

Heady, pungent tropical aromas, papaya in spades. Complex and unique hop aromas, dank and long lasting.

Taste is similarly tropical, papaya and bitter orange peel, resiny and bitter. Full body, malty backbone lends some supporting honeyed sweetness and secondary bready notes. Lingering bitter citrus peel in the aftertaste. Overall really nice, one of Spiteful's most interesting DIPA's. (615 characters)
