High octane citrus aromas came spewing out before I even had a chance to pour. In the glass, Ghost Bike’s hue is a wonderful copper tone and its clarity is remarkable for such a small batch brew. A dense, small bubble white head formed and retained well with moderate lacing. On the nose, bright clean citrus zest of lemon and orange won the battle of dominance, beating out pleasant notes of pine needles, resin, caramel, and toffee. Forefront on the sip, bitter citrus fruit reclaims its dominance in a west coast fashion. Mid-palate is where wonderful malt sweetness, carrying notes of light caramel and fruity esters, swoops in and saves the palate from a harsh bitter bite. Both components are married into beautiful harmony by the long and lingering finish.

Batch 12

A: Pours a clear golden - sits in the glass a murky/hazier gold. Great head, sticks to the glass beautifully, some legs.

S: Big sweet grapefruit, orange and mango - some astringency. Slightly resinous and piney - very slight mint.

T: More sticky and resinous than expected, but not incredibly so. Very refreshingly bitter grapefruit peel and orange - there is some sweetness that balances out along with bready malt.

P: Very smooth and pretty big (solid medium body) for an APA. Soft carbonation.

O: 7.3% APA? if you say so. Really great beer - well balanced, refreshing, and interesting.

Batch 13 - added dry hopping, I believe. A step above for sure - fantastic pale ale

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Handwritten Batch #40 inside of a planchette with a cool Ouija board themed label. My second beer from the new local brewery Spiteful Brewing out of Chicago. Expectations are moderately high.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours one finger of creamy fluffy off-white head on top of a beautiful bright orange colored body. Thin spotty lacing. Looks vibrant and great.

S - Mmmm, smells very nice also. Lots of big bright tropical fruits & florals, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, green apple, grass, cream, caramel, some soapiness, and some musty yeast.

T - Taste follows the nose: bitter grapefruit / orange, sweet tea leafiness, caramel apples, and herbal earthiness. Delicious.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with lots of bitter and resinous pine & grapefruit hops lingering on the palate. Delicious.

Overall, another wonderful beer from Spiteful Brewing. By the looks of how things are going, these guys are shaping up to be the next Pipeworks. Very glad I decided to pick this up before it was too late. Highly recommended.

bomber into a Teku glass. Batch 33 hand written on the side

Pours a dark dark copper, almost orange color with a nice 3 finger head with great lacing. Big amount of grapefruit on the nose. The taste also hits you with a big jolt of grapefruit flavor and hops, followed by a lasting passion fruit sweetness with a nice malty feel. Not much bitterness at all and ABV is completely undetectable. Good amount of balance with this one too. Medium bodied, mild carbonation.

Overall an excellent beer that is hard to call a traditional APA. It's like zombie dust is to an APA, classified as such but in actuality not really. Whatever you wanna call this beer, it's excellent and very much recommended.

Beer Temple - Chicago

Ghost Bike is apple juice golden with crystal clarity. I could read a book through the body of this beer. Carbonation rises in swirling streams throughout the body. The eggshell white head easily grows to two fingers in height before settling to a bubbly, craggy, impressive head. Good looking beer.

The nose is a bit subdued but what's there is in line with my tastebuds. Big bitter grapefruit pith leads the way. Close behind is orange that's a little sweeter and less sharp than the grapefruit. Citrus abounds. Sugar cookie malt adds some sweetness while cantaloupe, and even some graham crackery key lime pie, fill in the remainder. Unique and inviting. If only the nose was more pronounced.

While the citrus is bold the cantaloupe seems to nearly match it, making for a unique profile. Citrus and melon are upfront before bitter grapefruit pith hits in the middle. The sweeter orange soothes the bitter grapefruit on the finish. All the while a moderate graham cracker and sugar cookie backbone keeps the hops from running rampant. Pine driven bitterness grows on the finish as this beer warms.

The body leans toward the lighter side of moderate but there is a velvety softness. The carbonation is soft and enjoyable while the bitterness grows after each sip. A semi-dry finish accentuates the moderate+ bitterness.

Spiteful hit the nail on the head with Ghost Bike. A 6.5% pale ale, in pint cans, that's bold, easy drinking, and bitter. These will be on the shopping list in the future, no doubt.

No stranger to the ghost bike phenomenon, I see them daily on my own bike commute.

Lightly hazed orange shot through with steady rising carb trails. One fingers width of foam on the surface that manages to stick around for awhile, depositing stray arcs of dripping lace around the sides. Creamy surface texture.

Mildly sweet melon notes in the aroma, softly fruity with a vague undercurrent of pale malt underneath. Pretty understated and mellow, not a pungent smell but a pleasant one.

Soft and supple feel, easy to drink and a shade under medium-bodied. Hop derived notes of melon and light spice, a dry earthy hop bitterness builds in the finish. Nice balance of mellow sweetness and bitterness, neither is too dominant. Overall a nice easy drinking pale ale with some unique hop character, would drink again.
