Tan head, opaque black.

Smells of coco, and only coco, hints on coffee and undertones of alc.

Chocolate hits the pallet first, Thick with a melted chocolate feeling. Aftertaste of coffee and slight Alc. Little bite at the end with a creamy finish.

Little bit of a sticky mouth feel.

All in all reminds me of an imperial Samuel smiths organic chocolate stout. Which is delicious.

22oz. bottle poured into a CBS Snifter. Bottled in 2012. Thanks to bstyle for the bottle.

Appearance: Deep, dark, brown with a nice 1/4" tan cap that looked really creamy

Smell: Dark roast and dark chocolate on the nose.

Taste: When colder the bitter mocha flavors are dominant; however, as it warms the dark chocolate flavors take over and the bitterness recedes quite a bit. Warmth reveals just how good this beer really is, rich dark chocolate over everything else.

Mouthfeel: It stands out how creamy and drinkable this beer becomes as it warms. Very smooth with it's abv very well masked..

Overall: Really impressive effort from a newer Chicago brewery, one of the best RIS I have had.

Pitch black in the glass with a velvety layer of mocha foam across the surface. Wispy veil left behind after the first few sips, drippy bits of lace hang on the sides after each sip and sink slowly back into the beer.

Rich toasty aroma, sticky maple syrup, chocolate, charred toast.

Creamy smooth texture, not unlike Mexican hot chocolate, medium bodied and rich. Moderate bitterness from the black malt but never astringent. Lingering bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. Slight sweetness at first with subtle fruity hints of dates or dried plum from the yeast. Balanced and very smooth, reminds me a little of Plead the 5th.

This is a great RIS, and I think i'd prefer it over GFY when not craving a hoppy stout.

22oz bottle into a snifter
Batch number: I think it says 16, maybe 11

A big thanks to billakowski for sending this over as an extra!

A: Pours an opaque black with 1/2 fingers width of mocha colored head that dissipates down fairly quickly. Leaves only a few small patches of lacing.

S: Roasted malt, booze, cocoa, a sugary sweetness that reminds me of chocolate icing, subtle dark fruits. Very nice.

T: Big roasted malt, accompanied by a dessert like sweetness and dark chocolate. I also get significant dark fruit characters and some coffee notes.

M/D: Smooth, full bodied but could be a touch thicker, ABV is completely well masked and drinkability is very good.

O: Overall, this one caught be my surprise. It is a really good beer. I definitely would recommend this one. Thanks again billakowski for the great extra!

A: midnight body, trace khaki head, rather
nice lacing in my goblet

S: dark chocolate, roasted coffee/nuts,
light smoke, leather, licorice, caramel, boozy

T: dark cocoa, nuts, hint of ripe plums, roasted
coffee mild bitter finish

M: med/heavy body, creamy smooth

O: Perfect time of year for a complex RIS!
Thrilled to support Spiteful (local brewery).
Next time, think I will get more and share with
worthy friends. Wish was a little thicker body.

DELICIOUS; TRY SOME!

On tap at Norse Bar in Rogers Park - served in a 10oz tulip glass

A - Pours very dark brown / black with a nice 1 finger khaki head

S - Smells of fresh coffee and dark chocolate

T - Nice roasty coffee flavor up front and a little bit of booze as well as some cocoa flavors too. The finish is very smooth and actually makes this a pretty easy beer to drink, even at 10.5% ABV. Very little bitterness at all.

M - Definitely full bodied with a very nice creamy mouth feel. This was one of my favorite aspects of the beer. Not chewy or cloying like some big RIS's can be.

O - If you're a stout fan, this is definitely worth trying.

22 oz. bottle poured into a Chimay chalice.

Appearance: Black with a one-finger dark brown head. No lacing down the glass.

Smell: Dark chocolate, roasted chocolate, some caramel malt, light smokiness.

Taste: Same as the smell. Heavy on the roasted malt and chocolate along with some caramel. Finish is semi-sweet finish with a good amount of bittering hops.

Mouthfeel: Pretty full-bodied, but finishes quite dry. Appropriately low carbonation.

Overall: First beer from this new brewery that I've tried, and I'm impressed. They clearly know how to brew an imperial stout. Looking forward to trying more of their offerings.
