Really interesting porter from Spiteful here. Poured from a 22 oz bomber.

A: A dark opaque brown, this poured really nicely with about a finger of head on it. Lacing left on the glass quite nicely. A great looking porter.

S: Malt, chocolate, maybe a little citrus hoppy going on there as well?

T: Iiiiinteresting, chocolately porter with a good hit of hops going on. It's definitely lighter for a porter, somewhat refreshing.

M: Nice and light for a porter. The hops definitely crispen up what is usually a smoother style.

Really interesting to taste this much hops in a porter. Got to say it's pretty delicious though!

Served in a nonic pint glass.

Gotta have something to go with these skewers, and this one jumped out at me first. It pours a deep, dark black-brown topped by over a finger of dark khaki foam. The nose comprises roasted malts, mild coffee, a hint of dark chocolate powder, and a kiss of greenery. The taste brings in more of the same, with the greens attempting a full balance against the roast and chocolate, but not fully achieving such a status. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a solid porter, one that went pretty well with the salmon skewers I was eating without smothering their not-so-robust flavor. Good times.

Appearance: Pours with a medium to above average thickness. About three to four fingers of creamy head on the pour. Settled slightly but was very present while drinking. Pitch black appearance in the glass.

Smell: The dark simcoe hops hit right away. Sweet roasted malt and barley are present in the body. The dark fruits and malt keep coming back in waves. The hop accents in this brew is surprisingly refreshing.

Taste: Like the aroma, the hop presence hits right away. Again surprisingly floral and bright for a porter. Sugary malty body mixes very well with the hops. Waves of complexity keep coming over the palette long after drinking. The finish is on the lighter side, some syrupy malt texture stays behind.

Mouthfeel: Light but very refreshing. Some nice malt texture left behind.

Overall: A really excellent porter. Almost drinks like a black IPA, but the sweet malt accents keep it grounded as a porter. I'm usually not a huge fan of this much hop presence in a porter, but this one was very well done.
