Debbie Downer is a traditional German Dunkelweizen made with a base of wheat and Munich malt. A touch of black malt is added to give this beer its dark hue. The malts are complimented with a single addition of imported Hallertauer Hersbrucker hops. Add in some German yeast and you get a crisp, effervescent beer sure to quench your thirst and lift your spirits, after you encounter the miser of your Debbie Downer.

(Served in a bowtie glass)
A- This beer pours a deep dense walnut brown that glows just a bit at the base. There is an oily sheet and no head on the surface with lots of bubble popping on top.

S- The fruity gum aroma has a heavy yeast trub aroma with some Noble hop hints and a growing fusel alcohol finish. Hints of dark bread crust start to come through and some strong mineral notes aswell.

T- The lightly toasted malt notes blend with a big yeast flavor and a clove hint in the finish. There is a tart note in the finish with some Munich malt flavors lingering for a moment.

M- The light mouthfeel has a full fizz and some alcohol warmth in the finish.

O- This is an odd and quirky Dunkelweiss. The yeast esters are odd, the alcohol is really hot and the thin body with a big fizz makes Debbie a bit too unappealing to dance with. I couldn’t finish the song.

Poured into a pint glass, the beer has a murky dark brown appearance, initially with a fingers width of tan foam on the surface that fades, leaving behind no lacing.

Banana and chocolate notes in the aroma.

Nutty and roasty, peanut butter and chocolate, banana, a little bit sweet but with a dry finish and some lingering clove from the yeast esters. Medium bodied and smooth, lacks carbonation toward the end, but that is minor. Overall this is a tasty Dunkelweizen, flavorful and complex.

Appearance: Pours with a medium bodied thickness. Mildy dark brown hue to this brew. Pour with a very light head which is not present while drinking. Low carbonation. Pedestrian overall.

Smell: Much more subdued then I expected but warmed up as the beer did. Mainly dark fruits bursting out of the glass. Some dark malt accents but it is hard to get away from the fruity accents. Comes off almost with a synthetic feeling. Much brighter then I expected, but interesting overall.

Taste: The smooth mild malt front. Not surprisingly the dark fruits come on hard like they do in the aroma. Sweet, but almost too much so. Leaves me wanting more dark malt accents out of this one. Finishes very light on the palate. Not as much complexity as one would like.

Mouthfeel: Light, easy drinking.

Overall: Not a bad brew, but nothing I would go back for. A bold try for a young brewery, I like their ambition with this one. This one was just too bright and fruity for me, but I won't hold that against Spiteful.
