A 330ml bottle with no visible BB date (odd). Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. A rye IPA always sounds good, and I like the surreal label art.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A dark, hazy reddish brown hue with fine sediment and medium carbonation. Produces an enormous head of creamy beige foam with good retention; this slowly subsides to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of musty, earthy yeast, spicy grain, rye, caramel, pine, citrus and stewed hops. Faintly vinous and acidic. Intriguing.

Tastes of musty, funky yeast, rye and aromatic hops - rounded off with a powerful bitter finish. Notes of acidic funk, bready grain, rye, sharp pine resin, earthy yeast, faint caramel and stewed hops. Vinous and faintly sour. Well-attenuated, followed by a dank, strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and acidic, with prickly hop oils tantalising the palate. Faint carbonation but good body. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of sharp pine resin, bitter stewed hops, musty yeast and rye.

What a combination - it's hard to tell if this tastes as the brewer intended or if it is mildly infected. It looks good, but the aroma and flavour have a distinct acidic yeastiness that hints at infection. However, the grainy rye and hops make themselves felt and the overall effect is not unpleasant. Decent body - perhaps a tad undercarbonated. An interesting effort with plenty of character; I might sample it again at some point to compare the experience. Worth a punt if you come across it.

Pours dark amber with a large creamy head.
Nose shows spicy, resinous and earthy hops along with a strong malt presence and a faint spicy rye note.
Very similar flavours, more spicy rye alongside earthy and resinous hops. A subtle melon note enters too as well and some soft smoke.
Lovely creamy body.

Slightly hazy but mid brown body with nice lather like white foamy head

Big grapefruit shampoo aroma

The rye provisdes a slight berry like sweetness that becomes quite soapy and then bitter
background citrus and malt with slightly different aspects each swig

just really nice low level carbonation
it's more the big flavours that slow the drinking rather than mf or booziness

I think I might need about five or six more of these to really make up my mind

330ml bottle bought online from AlesByMail

Poured a light mahogany red colour with a brown tinge... Creamy tan head poured thick and foamy and faded to a nice thin layer...

Aroma - Nice bready malts, some roastiness, light caramel sweetness, figs, brown sugar, faint trace of rye, slight floral notes, citrusy hops, grapefruit fruitiness, some pine...

Taste - Lightly toasted malts followed by nice spicy rye notes, fresh bread, toffee, citrus fruits (oranges and grapefruits), piney and grassy hops, marmalade, slightly nutty, bitter aftertaste...

Feel - Quite smooth with only a slight sharpness. Medium body. Incredibly drinkable for 6.2%....

Overall - An excellent and supremely well balance brew... definitely recommended...

A very thick pillowy tan head slowly dissipates to a half a cm continuous film. Wisps of head cling to the glass throughout. Body is deep mahogany.
Aroma is of banana, cut grass, dried fruit, pine and carrot cake.
Nicely balanced. Taste is bread, toffee and some citrus.
Great carbonation. Very gentle without seeming flat.
Very dry astringent finish.

Poured from can into 330ml glass.

A - pours dark amber/orange with an off white creamy head leaving sticky lacing

S - very piny with hints of sweet malts and citrus. Also a little rye.

T - Starts with a very piny hop kick, ending with citrus and lots of toastyness from the rye. Grassy bitter notes at the end

M - very smooth and lightly carbonated for the style. Fab beer

Amber-chestnut with pile of taupe foam.
Resin, dried orange rind, tobacco and citrus oil that you can almost feel in your teeth on the nose.
Dark cherry and rye bread, some peppery spice, then floral, lime, melon, and rosin hops.
Cocoa-cakey finish and minty linger.
Medium, chewy, round, oily.

Creamy body, intricate malts, great nose - the skilz are here. I wouldn't have guessed Galaxy or Citra in the hopping - maybe a bit zesty, but more perfumed than anything else. A warm, bready ale with some slick citrus.

Very nice, if still not Hop Rod Rye.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Expires June 2014.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, rye, earth, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with tea, citrus zest, and rye flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice balance of rye and citrus forward hop aspects.
