BOTTLE: 12 fl oz. Brown glass. Atrocious label art and design. Branded brown pry-off pressure cap.

Served cold into a pilsner glass. Reviewed live as a pale ale per the label. Expectations are low.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: Two fingers in width. Off-white. Could be softer and creamier, but it's full and thick enough I guess. Retention is above average - ~4-5 minutes. Leaves a light uneven coating of lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Clear translucent copper of average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particles or hop sediment is visible.

Overall, it's a pretty generic appearance for a pale ale. Looks adequately carbonated.

AROMA: Caramalt. Hints of bready malt. The hop profile is pure soap - this spent way too long in primary fermentation.

Aromatic intensity is below average.

TASTE: Pale malt, caramalt, soap. That's it. This is easily the plainest simplest and least nuanced pale ale I've had in the last year. Boring, neutral, underhopped, and shallow. Too sweet to be balanced.

TEXTURE: Overcarbonated. Medium-bodied. Smooth and wet. Not real creamy or soft. Presence on the palate is subpar. This doesn't even come close to elevating the beer.

OVERALL: Why brew this? Let's call a spade a spade. There's just no flavour here at all. It's an insipid poorly brewed pale ale and it turns me off to the brewery entirely. Its cloying sweetness coupled with the soapy hop profile makes this a brew I despise. Best avoided.

Appearance: Massive, slightly coarse off-white head, atop a slightly hazy dark-golden body. The carbonation is light and slow-rising, the lacing thick and glass-coating. The body color seems rather dark for the style.

Aroma: Moderate piney hops and caramel malt dominate the aroma.

Taste: The taste opens with toasted malt and dark caramel, soon followed by aggressive pine hops. As the taste progresses, the hops rise in intensity, until, at the close of the taste, they fairly dominate the otherwise solid caramel and toasted malt background. Finishes with a lingering, moderate herbal bitterness.

Mouth feel: Smooth and full, with soft carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: To me, this appears to be an American Amber Ale, rather than an American Pale Ale. Offered as such, it would be a very solid example of the style. Presented as an American Pale Ale, the malt profile and color seem off-style.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager sensory glass.

Picked this up wanting something light and easy to drink for the hot weekend. Decided to open on up when I got home from work. Here are the results, trying not to sounds like a jerk.

A - I am not sure how Fort Bend passes this as a pale ale. Poured in to a pint glass, the beer comes out with little fan fair, a small amount of fizzy head that dissipates very quickly. Color is a deep copper / amber. The darkest pale ale I have ever seen.

S - Not much to report hear. Mostly bready malt with a faint aroma of hops.

T - Follows the nose. Mostly malt with very little hopes. Honestly tastes like an old amber.

M - Thin body

O - Disappointment

Not sure what I am going to do with the remaining 5.

Had this on-tap today at the brewery (9/06/14) and in the bottle right when it debuted. Today was much better and more accurate to style. Grade is average of both samples. Both samples were significantly different. Past sample had much more grain flavor, while today was much more hoppy.
