From growler. Pours ruby red with a big creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is perfumey nutty caramel malts and a little cola.

The flavor is sweet nutty caramel malts with some hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent malty red with some hops.

On tap at brew festival.

Appearance: Off white head, moderate lacing, clear reddish amber color.

Aroma: Floral hops and fresh bread dough.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, slightly sticky, dry and somewhat astringent finish with some lingering alcohol burn.

Flavor: Toasted bread, aromatic floral hops along with earthy hops, some ripe fruit.

Overall: tasty and enjoyable.

given the pedigree of black bottle, i am shocked how many beers i have tried from them without being impressed yet. this is another rather generic beer, american amber type, sweet and malty, decent if unexciting, but with a poor use of the special ingredient, which in this case is ginger root. it is so subtle, so far back, as to almost be invisible. im not looking for ginger beer or botanical intensity, but some flavor and aroma would be nice. copper in color, a little undercarbonated, and holding on to some sugars as it finishes, the feel doesnt impress me much either. it is mediocre execution of a good idea. i keep hearing people talk about how good these guys are, so i guess i will keep trying their stuff when i see it around town, but im still waiting for one i really care for.

16oz Pour on tap @ WOB in Cherry Creek, CO

A – Came out nice and red, crystal clear. Head is tall and tan, leaves behind nice lacing in its wake.

S – Very nice here, starts quite malty and sweet as a nice red ale should, hop notes come through. As it warms some solid ginger notes come through, more gingerbread cookie notes than the fresh cut ginger notes I was expecting, but very nice nonetheless.

T – Hoppy here, nice for the style, a tart and spicy ginger note comes though too. Quite a nice balance of sweet and spicy.

M – Medium bodied, carbonation may be on the high side of things, but overall this is nice and refreshing.

O – A nice change of pace, was expecting fresh cut ginger in a hop bomb, but got a balanced red ale with some semi-sweet and spicy gingerbread notes.

Pours a glowing red with almost no head, yet decent lacing. Aroma is nice and hoppy with some nice grapefruit and pine on top of a caramel malt foundation. Not sure I got any ginger, but I did have a few beers in me when I tried this. Flavor pretty much followed suit. A crisp, active lighter to medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, a very solid beer here. Good stuff, would drink again.
